The pro-weaker section bills being passed by the YCP government in the Assembly are taking the Opposition parties by surprise. The TDP can neither fully support nor outright oppose these bills. These bills are with regard to the allotment of 50 per cent nominated posts and nominated works for the SC, ST, BC and Minorities. Within that, 50 per cent posts will be given to women members. A separate bill is for setting up a permanent BC Commission.
There is a general feeling among the weaker sections that all these bills and acts will not give them empowerment as the benefits will not be passed on to them effectively. Their contention is that only ultimate power will give them ultimate justice. Whatever it is, CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s game plan is working effectively to deny strong chances for the TDP to attack it. YCP MLAs are taking advantage and using most of the time in Assembly to praise Jagan as the saviour and real well-wisher of the weaker sections now.
