YSR Congress has knocked at the doors of Supreme Court to defeat TDP’s misadventure to wean away more MLAs in order to get their votes for TDP candidate in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. The party MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy has filed a petition in Supreme Court seeking disqualification of 16 defectors. Election to the Rajya Sabha is scheduled on June 11.According to unconfirmed reports, TDP is in touch with more than 15 MLAs in view of the Rajya Sabha elections.
Inspired by Supreme Court Judgement in a case related to defections in Uttakhand Assembly, YSRC is planning to seek similar direction from the apex court. In Uttarakhand, nine Congress MLAs defected to BJP forcing the CM to prove his majority on the floor of the House. Supreme Court, however, barring the defectors from participating in the voting in floor test, came to the rescue of Harish Rawat. Jagan is hopeful of getting a similar directive from Supreme Court barring all the YSRC defectors from voting in the Rajya Sabha elections.
So far 16 MLAs have deserted Jagan to join the ruling party. TDP’s alleged game plan is to win all the four seats in Rajya Sabha. With their present strength, TDP can win three and YSRCP 1. TDP is hopeful of getting few more votes, if not defections, by way of cross voting. So, it thinks winning fourth seat may not be a pie in the sky. TDP is expected to field a rich industrialist who can take care of YSRCP MLAs for the fourth seat. Unsure of keeping his flock together Jaganmohan Reddy is planning to strip the defectors of their voting right in Rajya Sabha elections, if not disqualification of the defectors.
