Kapus again occupy centre stage in AP politics

Kapu a strong land owning community in Andhra Pradesh has again become hot topic in state politics. All major parties are vying with each other to move closer to the community, with the hope that they could succeed in their efforts at least by 2019. While a section of BJP leaders was trying to demonize chief minister Chandrababu Naidu as abettor of Ranga’s murder, a section of Kapu extended their support to Naidu for setting up Kapu Corporation with Rs 100 crore as seed capital

Addressing media Tuesday morning, noted BJP and Kapu leader Kanna Lakshminarayana demanded a probe by CBI into the murder of Kapu leader Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga, while several Kapu leaders from Coastal Andhra today met chief minister Naidu to extend their gratitude for setting up a corporation for the welfare of the members of Kapu community. Kapu leader Mallemudi Kotaiah, Vijayawada central MLA Bonda Umamaheswa Rao met the CM and thanked him for his gesture. They said Kapus were with Naidu and the community would extend full support to the construction of new capital Amaravati.

Stating that Naidu was wholeheartedly was working for the welfare of the Backward communities, they said a meeting ” All Kapu community convention” was being organized on November 22 in Vijayawada and chief minister Naidu would attend the meeting as chief guest. The CM had conveyed his consent to attend meeting, they added.

According to Kapu leaders the Vijayawada conclave would adopt a resolution backing the Chief Minister’s efforts to develop Amaravati into a world-class city. All political parties in Andhra Pradesh are now busy in wooing the Kapu community into their fold. While BJP has entrusted to Kanna Lakshminarayana and Somu virraju, YSR Congress, which is equally interested in Kapus is also trying to move closer to the party. The party’s spokesperson Ambati Rambabu, a Kapu leader, also demanded reopening of the Ranga case and institution of high level inquiry by CBI.
