#MeToo effect: Minister of “External affairs” MJ Akbar resigned

Union Minister MJ Akbar, who is handling the portfolio of Ministry of external affairs, resigned today. It is known news that, he is accused by multiple women of sex harassment.

Priya Ramani, working in Asian age was the first woman to make allegations against Akbar. But later, the #MeToo movement gained ground and 19 women journalists colleagues of her, came out in support of Priya Ramani and they issued a joint statement. Akbar refuted allegations and had even sued one of his 20 accusers for defamation, accusing her of “intentionally making fabricated allegations” to harm his reputation.

But today but he resigned to ministry and gave a statement. “Since I have decided to seek justice in a court of law in my personal capacity, I deem it appropriate to step down from office and challenge false accusations levied against me, also in a personal capacity,” he said in that statement.

Netizens are supporting Priya Ramani and others and trolling the former minister. Some netizens trolling him saying, “Probably he misunderstood the title of his portfolio EXTERNAL AFFAIRS” and tried to justify the title. Anyway MeToo movement is gaining momentum in the country and union minister resigning is expected to give further boost to the movement.
