Mysteries Surrounding Babu’s ‘Alleged Phone Tapping’

0

With AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu taking up the alleged phone tapping before the Centre, the Telangana government clarified that no such stints were involved in this cash-for-vote scam.

On Tuesday alone, at least nine ministers of Telangana government reiterated that they didn’t resort to phone tapping.

Even as the Anti Corruption Bureau is being blamed over the investigation procedures, ACB chief A K Khan plunged into the scene and briefed the media that the investigation in cash-for-vote was done as per their protocol, involving professionals.

It is known that the police has no authority to leak any of the substantial evidences to the media when the matter is prejudice and ACB too clearly said that they didn’t tap the phone. The question of leaking them to the media, therefore, doesn’t arise, opined political  observers.

So, it is evident that the police in this particular alleged tape episode is on a safe land. Who is at blame? Whether telephone line was really tapped or is it a clever play of Stephenson?

Here are some possibilities as to how this conversation was recorded, according to the experts.

Stephenson, the nominated MLA to the Telangana government, approached ACB and submitted a written complaint to the bureau that he was being lured for MLC vote.

As a part of the same, police-based on the written complaint-can presumably tap the telephone calls of Stephenson. While ACB is stressing that chief minister’s phone is not tapped, it is not clarifying anything about tapping Stephenson’s calls.

Also, it must be mentioned here that smart phones in today’s market have an option of auto-record. Apparently, there’s every chance of Stephenson recording Babu’s conversation on his mobile phone and handing it to TRS (his party).

All in all, if Chandrababu Naidu is really convinced that his phone lines are tapped, he has every right to move the court. However, his arguments in public-as to how can chief minister’s phone be tapped-are not acceptable, for the Constitution of India guarantees no separate law for a chief minister.

Insecure Naidu Knocks On The Doors of Centre

0

Beleaguered Naidu will knock on the doors of centre on Wedenesday for a bail-out from the cash-for-vote tangle he is  caught in.

He will lodge a complaint with union government that how Telangana government is resorting to phone tapping in Hyderabad, the joint capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and making the city insecure for Andhra Pradesh chief minister and other political leaders of the ruling party.

He is scheduled to meet home minister Raj Nath Sigh first and later, Prime Minister Nardenra Modi tommorrow.

He left for New Delhi immediately after the marathon cabinet meeting which revolved around the issue of telephone tapping by the T-government.

As he is fearing the prospect of being questioned by the Telangana ACB, Naidu rushed to Delhi to seek centre’s intervention in the matter, so that the T-ACB drops his name from the FIR.

Sources said Naidu, will also have consultations with legal experts in Delhi to explore the possibility of taking legal action against the T-government.

Similarly, he will exert pressure on the centre to implement the provisions of AP Reogranization Act-2014 that give special powers to the Governor over the joint capital area.

As of now, the provisions are not recognized by the Telangana government and are in cold-storage.

In the six-hour long meeting, in which AP intelligence chief  Anuradha was also present, the cabinet thoroughly discussed telephone-tapping issue.

According to sources, some ministers even expressed displeasure over the reported cluelessness of AP intelligence department on the Reventh issue or on the tapping of telephone of chief minister.

Naidu briefed the cabinet on the exercise he had done in the past two days to counter the T-government campaign against Andhra Pradesh government.

Naidu said he had held a meeting with all the service providers like Airtel, Vodafone etc to know more about the phone tapping.

“I gathered from them that on average daily about 5000 phones are  being tapped by operators at the request of various investigating agencies in Telugu states,” he told the cabinet.

Finally, the cabinet decided  on a three-pronged strategy to nail Telangana government.

One, a team of ministers will call on government ESL Narasimhan to lodge a complaint and seek action against T-government.

Two, the state government will set up  a committee that would go into the matter of telephone tapping by T-government or the recording of CM’s  reported conversation with T-MLA Elvis Stephenson.

And the three, the government will explore the possibility of approaching the court to rein in Telangana government in intercepting the telephone conversations.

Babu Lays Foundation Stone for AP Capital

0

The Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has today laid foundation stone for Andhra Pradesh Capital formation in Amaravati.

Despite heavy criticism from the political parties over the recent alleged corruption row of Telangana TDP MLA Revanth Reddy, the party supreme doesn’t seem to defer any of his plans.

Speaking about the new capital of the residuary Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu said that he would make the capital an outstanding one in the world that would be on par with Singapore.

It may be recalled that Mr Naidu along with TDP delegation earlier visited Singapore and reportedly observed the designs of some key buildings.

Babu even hailed the farmers who came forward and gave away their lands for the capital cause. He further said he would work for five days from Andhra Pradesh with an aim to build the elite capital city. Also, he urged the people of Andhra to extend their help for the same.

Taking pot shots at the Congress and the then UPA Government, the chief minister alleged that Congress went ahead with bifurcation of the state in a hush.

Meanwhile, Janasena Party, led by Pawan Kalyan came into the picture yet another time and demanded that the state be given special status with immediate effect. On the other hand, union minister Nirmala Seetharaman clarified that the Centre would extend all the required help in the formation of the capital city.

Briefing about the development of Hyderabad, Chandrababu Naidu said he brought recognition to the Nawabi city.

While the social media is apparently abuzz about Babu’s silence in Revanth Reddy’s episode, the chief minister remained tight lipped on the issue.

All in all, Mr Naidu seems to be giving top priority to capital city construction alone pushing aside some key issues and under development in the backward districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

It has to be mentioned here that it was due to Babu’s extra emphasis in the urban development brought Congress into limelight in 2004 in the residuary Andhra Pradesh. Whether Chandrababu Naidu is playing a safe dice this time or not remains to be a million dollar question.

Nara Chandrababu Naidu-Profile

0

Nara Chandrababu Naidu is a prominent political figure in Andhra Pradesh. He became the chief minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh for the first time in 1995 and served as the chief minister of the state till 2004.

Born on April 20, 1950 in Narewari Palle of Chittoor district, Chandrababu Naidu completed his M.A in Economics from Sri Venkateshwara University. He enrolled into a Ph.D programme. However, he discontinued his research and became active in student politics. As a student leader of Congress party, Babu played a key role in pacifying the youth during emergency time in this region due to which he became close to Indira Gandhi’s son Sanjay Gandhi.

Chandrababu Naidu started off his political career with Congress. He contested general elections on Congress ticket and won with an overwhelming majority in 1978. Babu served as minister of cinematograph in T Anjaiah’s cabinet, at the age of 28.

It was during his stint as cinematography minister, he got in touch with N T Rama Rao, the legendary film actor, producer, director and screenwriter. Impressed with his brilliance, NT Rama Rao solemnized wedding of his daughter Bhuvaneshwari with N Chandrababu Naidu.

When NTR formed Telugu Desam Party, Chandrababu Naidu was still with Congress and was defeated in the hands of TDP in 1983 elections. Soon, Babu was joined TDP.

In 1994, Chandrababu Naidu executed a coup against NT Rama Rao to oust him as the chief minister. He was successful in the attempt and was made the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Later, in 1999, he won the public mandate and continued till 2004.

Babu was hailed by various international economic figures for his vision 2020. He was primarily responsible in convincing international IT companies for investing in Hyderabad. However, his sole interest in urban development turned fruitful to Congress that banked upon farming issues and rose to power in 2004.

Chandrababu Naidu is the first chief minister of the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh. His name is recently surfaced in the alleged cash-for-vote scam of Revanth Reddy.

T Govt Denies Tapping, AP Writes to Centre

0

With Andhra Pradesh Government and TDP folks taking on Telangana government over the alleged tapping of AP chief minister’s phone, the Telangana government has swung into the action. The deputy chief minister of Telangana state, Kadiyam Srihari has categorically denied that the government didn’t tap Chandrababu Naidu’s phone.

He has further said that his party’s nominated MLA, Stephenson approached the Anti Corruption Bureau and gave a written complaint that he was lured by Revanth Reddy. Accordingly, ACB recorded the phone conversations of Stephenson alone, added Kadiyam.

Questioning on Revanth Reddy’s alleged cash for vote scam, Kadiyam asked Chandrababu as to why he didn’t condemn the heinous act. He even challenged Chandrababu if he was ready for a lie-detector test.

Coming down heavily on the statements of Chandrababu Naidu, he has said that Telangana police alone has jurisdiction on Hyderabad and Babu was misleading the people of Andhra.

It is still a matter of debate as to how the crime issue took a diversion to Hyderabad. Is TDP trying to sideline the corruption issue by bringing in Hyderabad? Well, it remains to be a rhetorical question.

On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh cabinet is convening a key meeting today for sending a resolution to the Centre that law and order in Hyderabad be handed over to the governor of Telugu states, as mentioned in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill.

Telugu CMs Cross Swords in Public

0

The cash-for-vote scam is now giving raise to war of words between Telugu chief ministers. With TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu, in the status of the chief minister, warning his arch rival KCR that the matter would be escalated in case he opens his eyes, Telangana chief minister came down vehemently and said that even God couldn’t save him.
These remarks are now becoming topic of the town. Are there any underlined meanings or warnings behind these statements? The political experts in Telugu state are saying yes!
It is known that TDP is an ally of the ruling NDA Government at the Centre. Also, key leader from TDP is serving as the union minister too. By stating that the matter would be taken way ahead, the political experts opined that Chandrababu Naidu was hinting at the apparent possibilities of taking up the matter with the Indian prime minister.
The counter of K Chandrashekara Rao stressing that even Lord couldn’t save him can be regarded that prime minister Narendra Modi will not be of any help to Chandrababu Naidu in this entire episode, added experts.
Whatever the issue is, chief ministers crossing swords in public is undoubtedly not a good sign in the democratic set up. While Chandrababu Naidu should have reacted swiftly on Revanth Reddy’s episode, K Chandrashekara Rao should have not reacted to Babu’s comments.
All in all, as home minister Rajnath Singh reportedly said, an investigation should be taken up properly at a place that’s far away from sensationalism, it would be better if KCR remain silent and let the law take its course of action.
At the end, everyone is equal before law—Rule of Law. That’s the very essence of our constitution. Be it chief minister of whosoever, they can’t bank on their posts to escape investigations or is procedures as the Indian Constitution offers no immunity for any official in the matters pertaining to crime.

Telangana plans to nail Naidu in cash-for-vote scandal

0

With Home Minister N. Narasimha Reddy claiming that the government has all proof to nail Chief Minister N. in the cash-for-vote scandal, all eyes are on the next move of the state’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

The ACB has sought the custody of Telengana’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) lrgislator A. Revanth Reddy, who was arrested on Sunday.

Revanth Reddy was nabbed while offering Rs.50 lakh to a nominated member of the assembly as part of the Rs.5-crore deal to make him vote for TDP-BJP candidate in election to the Telangana legislative council (Upper House).

The investigators are likely to interrogate him about the TDP chief’s alleged role in the scandal. The ACB sleuths may question him about his “boss”, whom he repeatedly mentioned during the talk with nominated MLA. The conversation was recorded on a spy camera.

The Telangana home minister has also claimed that Naidu also spoke to nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson over phone and that police have audio record of the alleged conversation. He also said he has have evidence that Naidu spoke to some MLAs of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

Narasimha Reddy described Revanth Reddy as a “small fry” and said there was a growing demand from public that Naidu should be made the main accused.

“In coming days, there will be dramatic developments,” Narasimha Reddy told reporters in Warangal on Wednesday.

Revanth Reddy, a member of the Telangana assembly and his two aides were arrested by the ACB after laying a trap at the residence of Stephenson, who represents the Anglo-Indian community in the Telangana assembly. The trap was laid on a complaint by the nominated MLA.

The next day, a city court sent Revanth and two others to judicial custody for 14 days.

TRS leaders, including Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K. Kavitha, a member of parliament, have demanded that Naidu should be made an accused in the case.

Telangana’s Irrigation Minister Harish Rao, who is Chandrasekhar Rao’s nephew, has described Naidu as the mastermind behind the bid to buy votes for the TDP-BJP combine in the council poll.

Information Technology Minister K. Tarakarama Rao, who is son of the chief minister, has said law will take its own course.

“If there is prima facie evidence, there is no reason why Naidu should not be included,” said Tarakarama Rao. He said the ACB will go deep into the case to find out who is the mastermind.

The trap for Revanth Reddy was laid after TRS leaders reportedly got a wind of the attempts being made by Naidu to woo some disgruntled TRS MLAs to vote for the TDP-BJP candidate.

Naidu, who last week was elected the TDP’s national president, wanted to take revenge on the TRS for encouraging defections in the TDP in Telangana. Five TDP lawmakers crossed over to the TRS during last one year.

It was after the TRS learnt about Naidu’s attempt to woo some of its MLAs that Chandrasekhar Rao went to the extent of threatening dissolution of assembly if the TRS failed to win all its five seats to the council. TRS sources said this was a threat to some MLAs who were in touch with TDP leaders.

The YSR Congress Party, the main opposition party in Andhra Pradesh, has demanded that Naidu be made an accused in the case. YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy even met E.S.L. Narasimhan, who is governor of both the states, to make the demand.

The Congress party in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has demanded a thorough probe into Naidu’s role.

The TDP has hit back at the YSR Congress, saying it entered into a conspiracy with the TRS to target the party.
