Why this kolaveri on YouTube views and likes ?

fake Youtube views, fake Youtube likes, Gautamiputra teaser views, Dhruva teaser views

6 lakh views in 6 hrs
1 Million views in 10 hrs

These are the statements that you often see in social media these days as soon as a trailer or a teaser from upcoming movies are released. Unfortunately, no member of the publicity team talks about the lead actor or content in the trailers and teasers.

Publicity teams always need a fooder for fans to fight on. Now the new tool is Youtube views. For Janatha Garage, the team claimed 1 Million views in just 6 hrs. The same thing is happening for Gautamiputra Satakarni and Dhruva teasers which were unveiled yesterday. The respective publicity teams are claiming that GPS teaser clocked 1 Million views in less than a day and Dhruva garnered 1 Million views in 15 hours.

In just few hours after the release of teasers and trailers, fan groups start discussing about the count and raise a debate in social media on which movie stands first with respect to views and likes. So, how genuine are these numbers ? Even Bollywood movies, which have a wider reach, never had such a strong view count on the first day. Also, we rarely see an exaggeration of the YouTube views and likes of their teasers and trailers.

It is in the last couple of years, the publicity teams of South cinema started creating fuss about the YouTube views. Most people in the industry know that a significant number of views for these trailers are from link farms. For a number of recent big ticket movies, YouTube temporarily removed the video as the views originated from link farms.

Isn’t it better to focus on content than these trivial numbers? Who are we trying to fool?
