Two top directors receive notices on Jayalalitha’s Biopic

Soon after Tamil Nadu ex-Chief Minister J Jayalalitha passed away, a bunch of films on her life story have been announced. Jayalalitha’s niece J Deepa filed a petition in the Madras High Court after the announcements. As per the civil suit, filmmakers AL Vijay and Gautham Vasudev Menon have been served notices after Deepa clarified that they haven’t acquired the rights of Jayalalitha’s story. Deepa argued that these films will surely hamper the privacy of their family.

The Madras High Court served notices to AL Vijay, Gautham Menon asking them to respond before November 14th. Filmmaker Vishnu Induri announced the film ‘Thalaivi’ stating that he acquired the rights of Jayalalitha’s life story from their family members. AL Vijay is the director and Kangana Ranaut is the leading lady in Thalaivi. Gautam Menon announced a web series named Queen and Ramya Krishna is on board to reprise the role of Jayalalitha. One more biopic is announced with the name ‘The Iron Lady’ in which Nithya Menen is roped in to play Jayalalitha.

We have to wait to see how these filmmakers respond to the served notices.

Nithya Menen’s Jayalalitha biopic not shelved

While various biopics on former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha are underway, the one that excited everyone is Nithya Menen starrer. She has many resemblances to the former actress turned politician. Titled ‘The Iron Lady’, the film was announced with much fanfare some months ago. But there was no progress since then.

As rumors are spreading that it was shelved permanently, the film’s director A Priyadarshini sent a letter to the media houses explaining its status. The biopic starring Nithya Menen is not shelved, she stated.

“The Iron Lady consists of many technical departments operating synchronously towards exploring our creative potential and at the same time refrain misrepresenting the real facts. I am awaiting dates of confirmation from two of the main character artistes of the film,” she said. She mentioned that Nithya Menen will play the role of Amma.

Nithya enthusiastically shared the statement on social media.

Without even revealing a word about what they are making, director Gowtham Menon released a poster of his upcoming web series titled ‘Queen’, which has Ramya Krishna playing the lead role. Later Gowtham Menon commented that he is making this series on the life and times of former Tamilnadu CM Jayalalitha.

Today, Jayalalitha’s nephew Deepak Jayakumar has issued a press statement that only director AL Vijay took permission and NOC from Jayalalitha’s family to carve the biopic, but Gautham Menon hasn’t even approached them. He stated that if anyone makes a film or web series on Jayalalitha without approaching them, serious action would be taken.

While the Jayalalitha biopic featuring Kangana Ranaut in the lead, which is produced by Telugu producer Vishnu Induri, is yet to take off, Gautham Menon’s web series was already under the process of filming. This jolt coming from Jayalalitha family might result in some legal battles now.

According to law, the life of any public figure could be made into a film even if the family doesn’t give permission. But if any of the living persons are shown in a negative light, they could knock the doors of court with possible evidence. Using the same logic, Ram Gopal Varma made a film on NTR and legal notices failed to stop him.

Hollywood makeup expert for Jayalalithaa Biopic

Bollywood beauty Kangana Ranaut is on board to reprise the role of Tamil Nadu legendary politician Jayalalithaa. Kangana Ranaut will be essaying four different looks in the film which is titled Thalaivi. AL Vijay is the director and the film will be shot simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. As per the update, Hollywood makeup expert Jason Collins who worked for films like Captain Marvel and Blade Runner will work for the film.

Jason Collins will design the looks of Kangana in the film. The regular shoot commences after Diwali and Thalaivi will release next year. Vishnu Induri’s Vibri Media will bankroll this project.
