Nishabdham Review – A Clumsy , Implausible Thriller

Nishabdham Movie Review

Nishabdham Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating 2/5

Story (Spoiler Free):

Saakshi (Anushka) & Sonali (Shalini Pandey) are childhood friends. When visiting a haunted house in Seattle USA, Anthony (Madhavan), Sakshi’s husband is murdered. Richard (Micheal Madsen) & Mahaa (Anjali) from the Seattle Police Department are assigned the case and the rest of the movie is about murder investigation as they find the murderer.

Analysis:

Film opens in an interesting manner showcasing 1972 double murders in a remote house near Seattle, USA. On a Christmas night, an American couple was allegedly killed by a ghost and ever since the house had been branded as a haunted house. The house re-opens in 2019 after a businessman buys it for timeshare renting. With a complete set up in USA for a thriller, the film could have been easy cruise.

Showing the ultra-mass image heroine Anjali as a cop is doesn’t exactly sit well with the audience. Truly, no point in casting a retired, outdated, mass heroine for this role. However, she did try her best to justice to the role given, but that doesn’t help the movie much. A major part of the story is narrated from Anjali’s POV, until it finally shift to Vivek’s (Subbaraju) POV, making Mahaa’s screen time much longer than Anushka’s.

Kona Venkat and Hemanth Madhukar have letdown the audience when it comes to the writing and screenplay. The movies starts off as a horror genre, shifts to crime investigation genre, attempts to touch base love and illicit relations and finally just ends absurdly.

Even with all this, perhaps success wouldn’t have been too far off, if it had a series of effective mystery and reveal scenes as the puzzle is solved. Instead the duo took an easy path here using a first-person narrative, easy but ineffective as it falls flat to raise the audience’s pulse. Plenty of script errors, and a slow narrative just kills the film. Sonali – Sakshi possessive friendship is rather weird. The crime investigation is riddled with errors, mirrors the director-writer’s lack of understanding of the system.

The only character that felt casted right is that of R.Madhavan. What could have been a solid role for an actress of Anushka’s caliber looks place without proper backing from the writing department. Subbaraju’s character and his performance are just okay. Hollywood actor Michael Madsen is good in his role as Richard. On technical grounds this film is okay. Cinematography and background score are good, locations selection is good as well.

Positives:
– Background score and Cinematography
– R.Madhavan
– Production Values

Negatives:
– Poor Screenplay
– Absurd Investigation scenes
– Inept direction

Verdict:
Nishabdham is an unimpressive, poorly written film. One may feel spending time is worthless even on the OTT platforms. Valuable stars like Anushka , Madhavan are wasted on this poor script. Overall, a disappointment output given the high budget.

Madhavan on why he plays a villain in a Telugu film

0

The new Telugu release “Savyasachi” has surprised Andhra and Telanganas audiences with the strong presence of Tamil cinemas iconic actor R Madhavan.

Madhavan has so far done only Tamil and Hindi film so what prompted him to do a Telugu film and that too in a negative role?

“The role, what else? It was a fabulous role. Though my character enters the picture mid-way, my introduction into the plot had me hooked. And the enthusiasm that I felt in Andhra Pradesh when I went there to finalise the Telugu version of my biopic on the space scientist Nambi Naraynan, clinched the matter. I was told I had no idea about my fan-following in Andhra. Now I do,” laughs Madhavan.

His entry into the film is greeted with a loud applause in Andhra.

Madhavan is pleasantly surprised, “I had no idea I’d be received so well in my first Telugu film. Now of course there is ‘Rocketry The Nambi’ Effect where I will be speaking my own lines in Telugu for the first time. I learnt the language for my character in ‘Savyasachi’ . But they had to dub my voice finally. But for the Nambi bio-pic I will be speaking Telugu in my own voice.”

Madhavan says he enjoyed his first stint in Telugu cinema. “I had never spoken in Telugu and I had never played a negative character. It was a new experience for me. I am certainly open to doing more Telugu films.”

Talent, hard work, perseverance needed to make name in any cinema: R. Madhavan Interview

0

R. Madhavan, who began his acting career on the small screen and went on to make his name in both the southern and Hindi film industry, says a combination of talent, hard work and perseverance is needed to cement one’s space in cinema anywhere in the world.

Asked about his take on whether actors from southern India face any problem being accepted in Bollywood, Madhavan told IANS over phone: “I don’t think that’s the case.”

“If you’re talented and hardworking, you will get what you deserve, eventually. It also depends on what actors want to do and what makes them happy. There are actors who are sticking to one genre and are happy. There are also people who are doing multiple genres, and they are happy too.

“Having said that, you need to have a combination of talent, hard work and perseverance to make a name in any cinema you enter.”

Known for films like “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein”, “3 Idiots”, “Rang De Basanti”, “Tanu Weds Manu” and its sequel “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” and “Saala Khadoos”, the actor will be soon seen hosting National Geographic’s new series “Mega Icons”, premiering on September 24.

Each episode would be a journey into the life of an iconic personality, with help of not only intimate interviews of the icons and their families, but also through research and analysis by experts.

Appealing to the common man’s aspirations, the show delves on the life of celebrities from different walks of life. The list includes cricketer Virat Kohli, politician and actor Kamal Haasan, former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, spiritual leader and Nobel laureate Dalai Lama, and social activist and India’s first women IPS officer Kiran Bedi.

Madhavan is excited.

“When we look at these personalities, we wonder whether they were born to be great, and their success defined from day one — or if their journey through life, their experiences and hard work, really shaped them into the giants we revere.

“The show will not only discuss the journey of these icons, but will also help shaping the actions of millions in the country who aspire to make it big,” he said.

As Kamal Haasan is one of the personalities on the show, Madhavan said: “I’ve grown up watching his films. I’ve admired his acting and him as a person ever since I’ve got into cinema. He is a powerhouse of knowledge, whose commitment to cinema is unbeatable.

“I have learnt from him that you need to be your character when you enact in front of the camera. Whenever I meet him, I feel like the same 16-year-old boy, with utmost admiration for him.”

Madhavan is also someone who is admired by fans all over. And his fan following increased when he came back fit and in form after a sabbatical due to a shoulder injury.

“I was confident of getting back on screen. I love what I do, and work keeps me going,” he said.

He is confident that “Mega Icons” will inspire many lives.

“What is really interesting is that the show is bringing together some of the most inspiring personalities, selected carefully from varied walks of life; and I believe every story will reveal answers to many questions we have always wondered about geniuses,” said the actor.

On the work front, Madhavan also did a web series “Breathe”, which had received a positive response.

Any plans to do more web series?

“Yes, that is an interesting space and, of course, if there is an exciting script, I’d love to take it up,” he said.

“The digital world is a great platform for young blood, who are full of talent and energy. With so much content being produced in a short span of time, it’s a great platform for some newcomers to shine.

“Of course, there are experienced people as well working for the digital business, which also gives a chance for the newcomers to work and learn with them. I think we are already seeing some great talents who are doing great on the digital platform, and then they are also bagging roles in traditional cinema,” added the actor.

Its Nostalgia Time for Maddy!

0

It is a well known fact that the handsome actor Madhavan shares great bonding with celebrated filmmaker Mani Ratnam because it was the latter who introduced him into filmdom with Alaiayuthey (Sakhi) in the year 2000. However, very few would know that Madhavan approached Mani Ratnam for the role of Prakash Raj in the film Iruvar but Mani Ratnam had to reject the actor because Maddy looked too young (and adorable) for such challenging role! However, the director gave a word to Maddy that he would definitely do a film in the near future and that’s how Alaipayuthey materialized.

Ever since the success of Alaipayuthey, Madhavan worked with Mani Ratnam consistently and delivered seasoned hits. When a photo of Madhavan along with Mani Ratnam and cinematographer P.C.Sreeram was posted today, the actor obviously went down the memory lane.

The photo featured this amazing trio in a laid back mode and the same was expressed by Maddy in his tweets. The actor reminisced saying that they were so relaxed and cool those days! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if these three get together once again for another marvel?
