Deadline for ZPTC/MPTC voter enrollment is Apr 18

Hyderabad: The Election Commission (EC) has set April 18 as deadline for enrollment in voters’ list for ZPTC and MPTC elections. In this regard, a notification will be issued with four days, according to V Nagi Reddy, State Election Commissioner (SEC). The election schedule has been finalised as per the request by Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who urged the EC to conduct polls before May 23, on which general election results would be declared.

At present, Telangana has 1.57 crore voters in electoral list and the EC has given the list to all the political parties. The elections for ZPTC and MPTC will be held in three phases on May 6, 10 and 14 and notifications will be issued on April 22, 26 and 30 respectively. Election results for ZPTC and MPTC will be announced after declaring Lok Sabha results on May 23.

The EC has convened a meeting with district collectors and police officials on April 18.

The State Election Commissioner has been holding meetings with government officials on organising Zilla Parishad elections in fool-proof manner. The SEC has received ballot boxes supplied by Maharashtra and Karnataka.

“After withdrawals of nominations, ballot papers will be prepared. We’re prepared to handle any unforeseen situation in electoral process. We can handle Nizamabad-type of situation also. Staff for the polling process have been finalised. After review meetings with collectors and Police officials, we’ll finalise polling stations and phases of elections on April 18,” said Reddy.

YSRC Boycotts Prakasam Dist. MLC Poll

YSR Congress lost the Council election in Prakasam district before it is fought. Lost in the race of one-upmanship and sure of losing the election, the party announced much before the polling that it isboycotting the election. The polling is scheduled on July 3. All municipal councilors, MPTC and ZPTC members in districts are voters in the election.

As it could not win back the MPTC and ZPTC member who were allegedly held hostage  by Telugu Desam Party, YSR Congress announced that it was withdrawing from the contest of the election to Prakasan local bodies constituency of state Legislative Council.  YSRC is facing tough competition from TDP candidate Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, a former Congress MP. YSR Congress alleged that TDP had was holding about 35 MPTC and ZPTC members hostage.  While announcing the decision to withdraw from the contest, party leader MP Subbareddy said their attempts to get back their members from TDP captive could not yield results. “We have represented to the Election Commission and governor of the state about abuse of official machinery by the ruling party. The party is offering money to members of YSRC to cross vote to TDP candidate,” Reddy told media.

YSRC Cries Foul at TDP’s Corruption in MLC election

YSRCP demanded that TDP candidate Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy be declared not qualified to remain in contest in elections to legislative Council from local bodies constituency of Prakasam district.

A delegation consisting of deputy leader in Assembly J Nehru, party senior leader Prof Umareddy Venkateswarlu etc met state election chief Banwarlal on Wednesday to lodge a comlaint against Srinivasulu Reddy.

They said Reddy was trying to buy out voters, MPTC members, by offering Rs. 2.5 lakh per vote. They also said Reddy was holding all these MPTC at an unknown place to prevent them from voting freely in the election. They handed over CDs containing the versions of YSRC members who were offered money by TDP candidate to Banwarlal.
