Tirupati to go global from tomorrow


Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the new Integrated Terminal Building at the Tirupati Airport, on Oct. 22, 2015.

The new Integrated Terminal Building, with Car Parking, Apron for two Code ‘D’ and one  Code ‘C’ type of Aircrafts with Link Taxi and associated infrastructure, cost an approximate Rs. 191 crores  to build.

The new terminal building has been designed, driving inspiration from the shape of Garuda (Eagle) in-flight with its wings flapping/spread in air. Garuda is the divine carrier serving Lord Vishnu also known as Lord Shri Balaji. The idea of designing an airport terminal in the shape of Shri Balaji’s aviation expert in action can be expected to bond well with the passengers headed to Tirupati as their pilgrimage destination.


The Integrated Terminal Building capable to handle 500 Domestic and 200 International Passengers at a time, is a steel and glass structure with state-of-art modern passenger friendly facilities and services. Some of the most impressive facilities include

  • Baggage Handling System compatible with Inline X-ray machine integrated with the Departure Conveyor System
  • Incline Arrival Baggage
  • Claim Carousels
  • Passenger Boarding Bridges with Visual Docking Guidance System
  • Central Air-Conditioning
  • Public Address System
  • Fire Alarm System
  • Flight Information Display System (FIDS)
  • CCTV for Surveillance
  • Check-in-Counters with Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE)
  • Car Parking.

Energy efficient and ecofriendly material like Fly Ash Bricks, Low Heat Gain Glass, LED Lighting and Energy Efficient Chillers etc. are used in the building for obtaining “4 – star” rating from the GRIHA.


The new Terminal Building has a peak hour handling capacity of 700 passengers and is built in an area of 16,500 sq.m. (additional 5,500 sq.m. for the basement). The other salient features of the Terminal Building include

  • 18 Check-in-Counters
  • 4 Immigration Counters for Departure
  • 6 Immigration Counters for Arrivals
  • 1 Departures Custom Counter
  • 4 Arrivals Custom Counters
  • 1 Baggage Conveyors in Departure area
  • 2 Baggage Claim Carousels for Domestic Arrivals
  • 1 Baggage Claim Carousel for International Arrivals
  • 2 VIP Lounges
  • 1 CIP Lounge
  • Car Parking to support 250 cars,  5 Buses, 75 Taxies 25 VIP cars
  • 2 PBB
  • 5 Elevators
  • 4 Escalators
  • 3 Apron and Associated Taxi Track – Aircraft Parking Bays. (2 for Code – D type of aircrafts, 1 for Code – C type of aircrafts)

The program will be attended by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh Mr. E.S.L.Narasimhan, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr.Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the Union Minister of Civil Aviation Mr. P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, the Union Minister Urban Development &Housing Mr.M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Union Minister of State for Culture & Tourism Dr. Mahesh Sharma, the Andhra Pradesh Minister of Environment & Forest, Science & Technology, Cooperation Mr.B. Gopala Krishna Reddy and the Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Dr. Vara Prasadarao Velagapalli among others.
