Too much hype a liability for Saaho

After the remarkable success of Baahubali franchise, expectations on Prabhas’ next projects among audience and trade circles are usually bound to reach unprecedented levels because of his pan Indian popularity. Rightly so, his next film Saaho, a multilingual action flick, has become the cynosure of everyone ever since the project has been announced.

The hype got bigger after its makers roped in popular stars from various languages to give the project a nation wide attention. Given that the film is made as a multilingual with a staggering budget, creating hype to gain good market and recoup the investment is a good idea. But, hyping too much with exaggerated budget and labelling it as a ‘bigger than Baahubali’ project might turn out to be a big liability for the film.

From the start, the makers of Saaho have hyped the budget on the film. Initially, they announced that the film is made with a budget of around 150 Crores. Now, it has been intentionally shooted up to 250 – 300 Crores, making the costliest film of India. Also, they officially announced that nearly 90 Crores have been earmarked for action sequences in Dubai. Further, they said that the CG work and VFX effects will be bigger than that of Baahubali.

All these hyperbolic statements may act as a dampener for the film because of the fact that over expectations often lead to disappointment. Already the film has garnered adequate hype and hysteria in audience. Also, Prabhas should be aware that living up to the expectations of audience after delivering a monstrous hit with an SS Rajamouli film is not an easy task.

So, Prabhas and Saaho team should hold in check the escalating hype and ensure that it matches the heavy expectations that have already engulfed the project.
