Legendary music composer Ilayaraja has filed several lawsuits against the South filmmakers for using his songs in their films without seeking his permission. Some of them had to settle with him outside the court while some of them had to compromise to avoid legal hurdles. Ajith’s recent film Good Bad Ugly faced similar issues and the film was removed from Netflix. The songs ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’ from 1982’s Sakalakala Vallavan, ‘En Jodi Manja Kuruvi’ from 1986’s Vikram, and ‘Oththa Roova’ from 1996’s Nattupura Pattu are used in the film.
Ilayaraja has demanded Rs 5 crores as compensation from the makers of the film. The makers, Mythri Movie Makers have removed all the above songs from Good Bad Ugly and the film is back on Netflix. The updated version of Good Bad Ugly is now streaming on Netflix from last night. This is a wise move from the makers instead of heading for legal hurdles or paying Rs 5 crores for Ilayaraja. Adhik Ravichandran is the director of Good Bad Ugly and Anirudh scored the music. Ajith, Adhik Ravichandran and Mythri Movie Makers are teaming up for one more film and the shoot commences soon.
