Is Modi a substitute for Gandhi and Vivekananda?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen spinning the “charkha” – and not Mahatma Gandhi – on the 2017 calendar and diaries published by the Khadi Village Industries Commission or KVIC.

Gandhiji who founded the khadi movement to boycott foreign goods has been featured on these calendars for a longtime now. While some claim that the deviations have been there in past and it is not something unusual, PM Modi is seen in his signature kurta-pyjama-waistcoat, working on a modern charkha.

The calendar is a typical Daboo Ratnani calendar instead of film fraternity, it is modi all the way. The calendar doesn’t reflect the success stories of BJP or Narendra Modi as PM but a Poster boy.

On another note, BJP leader Dr. K Lakshman addressing a meeting on National youth day said “Vivekananda to fulfill his ambitions took rebirth in the form of Narendra Modi. In the past Narendra gave a speech in Chicago and made India famous, 100years later Narendra Modi is touring the world and is doing the same”

Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi are timeworn and insignificant now? Is BJP trying to replace Modi as the new father of the nation or the Chicago conference speech of “brothers and sisters of America” to “bhaiyo or beheno”?

This annoying comparison of politicians to Gods, Saints, freedom fighters are increasing day in and out. No amount of facts can persuade the prejudiced mind especially of these leaders and organizations promoting beliefs without any logical understanding. The supporters turning into devotees and sometimes it is just blind devotion.
