BSF Jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav Video

“This is breakfast – one burnt parantha and a glass of tea…no butter, no jam, no pickle… Can a jawan do his duty with this kind of food? Share this video as much as possible and take our message to the government. Jai Hind!” says Border Security Force (BSF) soldier Tej Bahadur Yadav who has released three videos showcasing the despicable conditions of forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Union home ministry Rajnath Singh took cognizance of the video and ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. The well-rehearsed response of the Army officials stated “launching an enquiry and sending a senior officer to the location”. Instead of addressing the red flags raised in the videos, the BSF chose to reveal details about Yadav’s difficult past.

It is shameful that the authorities preferred to defame the jawan instead of addressing the issue.“A habitual offender of absenteeism without permission, chronic alcoholism, misbehaving and using force with superior officers, besides other acts against good order and discipline. For such reasons, individual has served mostly in headquarters under supervision of some dedicated superior officer. In spite of him being a bad hat, proper time has been devoted for individual’s improvement as welfare to the individual,” said the statement.

Terming the jawan alcoholic, the officials tried to deviate from the actual issue. However, Yadav’s video echoes the statement in the report tabled by CAG in 2016. CAG earlier slammed army for consuming ration, even after the expiry of original shelf life.

Regardless, the person is alcoholic or not, the officials did not respond on the allegation of poor food quality. While everyone is wondering what food quality has to do with his behavior, officials are trying their best to kill the messenger. The soldier has been shifted from the Line of Control (LoC) to the headquarters of his 29 battalion in Poonch.

Using the previous history of jawanand declaring him “Bad Hat” doesn’t justify the scenes in the video. The quality of dal was sickening but there is no word about the another utensil which appears well-sprinkled with condiments.

This surely cannot be considered as one-off incident especially when CAG pointed out that despite Parliament Accounts Committee submitting its detailed report in 2011, to improve the supply chain management of ration, the Army could implement only2 of 12 recommendations.

The Jawan was posted 10days ago to the base camp and this whistle blowing is possibly due to the outcome of the comparatively softer life of headquarters. Yadav used his cell phone and social media to complain which is against the rules and in all likelihood, will face disciplinary action. But the BSF’s statement suggests that alcohol reaches but not good food. This time, the enemy is this side of the border
