Naidu visits rape victim, promises death punishment to culprits

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu visited the nine-year old rape victim in the Guntur Government General hospital on Saturday. He consoled the girl and her family members and informed them that the accused in the case had committed suicide even before the police nabbed him.

The Chief Minister promised government support to the family and said the government would help them overcome the sad days. He also informed the family members that the government is thinking on amending the laws to award death punishment to the persons who commit the crime of rape. When the parents of the minor girl met him the other day also, the Chief Minister said that the law is being reworked to give death penalty to the perpetrators of such crime.

The Chief Minister said that the women and girls are to be protected in the State and the government gives them greater protection in the State. However, if the crime happens at any point of time, the accused will be taken to the book and punished to ensure that such crime is never repeated.

He listed out the initiatives of the government to protect the women, empower them and involve them in the process of development and their role in Andhra Pradesh through the self-help groups. He recalled how the women are made agents of development in the State each woman handling 35 families across the state, taking the developmental initiatives of the government to the door steps of the people.

The Chief Minister discounts any claims of the political affiliation to any of the accused in the crime against women in the State and asked the people to look at those persons as criminals keeping their political affiliations aside.
