One year after laying foundation stone, development takes backseat.
Amaravati: One year completed yesterday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone for ambitious capital Amaravati of Seemandhra people. Much against the expectations of the people, after one year, reality rulers are ruling the roost while farmers who parted with their lands for the development are in dire straits. And the development and welfare programmes too took a backseat.
Amidst all hypes that capital region is constructed on the lines of international standards, PM Modi laid foundation stone on August 22, but for the surprise of AP CM Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his counterpart KCR along with Union Ministers and other dignitaries, Modi showed empty hands to the capital city.
Total of 22,189 farmers, who gave their lands to the AP government, are up in the arms against the process and assurances made by Naidu. To the expectations of AP Chief Minister, temporary Secretariat built in 45 acres in Velgapudi for which foundation stone was laid on February earlier this year, is completed.
Employees too shifted to Velgapudi from Hyderabad within eight months after foundation stone was laid. The AP government spent Rs 201 crore on temporary Sectt to run the administration from its land.
However, as desired by the Chief Minister plan were just half completed. The High Court’s judgement on Swiss Challenge process of the State government is an egg on Naidu’s face. Apart from these, the CRDA is facing criticism from the locals in capital region for not being transparent on allotting plots to the farmers. Now the government is facing severe flak from the opposition parties.
If aspirations and goals set by Naidu have to take off, the idea of making business through the new capital Amaravati has to be dropped from the mind. Only then the TDP government could deliver justice to the people.
