Political environment heating up in Telangana as opposition intensifying protests

After completion of half of its term, the TRS government in Telangana seems to be worried with the volatile political environment in the state after opposition parties intensifying their protests exposing `unfulfilled poll promises’ of its government.

The TDP has started its `Praja Poru’ (People’s Struggle) campaign by organising public meetings in the constituencies represented by ministers. The first such meeting is being held today in Kollapur, the constituency of Panchayat Raj minister Jupally Krishna Rao. Its next public meeting is scheduled to be held at Gajwel, the constituency represented by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

The Congress too is not lagging behind. It has planned to organise ‘Jana Avedana Sammelanam’ across the state from Feb 19 to 28 as part of its next round of protests against the policies of the state and central governments. AICC general secretary Dig vijay Singh will kick off the 10-day-long protest programme by taking part in the first meeting to be held at Tandur in Vikarabad district on Feb 19.

The BJP, which has already been organising awareness camps since Feb 8 across the state protesting against reservation for Muslims, too has decided to intensify its agitation. The party will organise protests in all mandalas from February 15 to 20 in protest against Muslim reservation.

Later, the saffron party will hold protests from March 1 to March 25 over “improper” implementation of the double bedroom housing scheme. It will organise ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme in Hyderabad against reservation for Muslims in the last week of the next month. According to BJP state unit President Dr K Lakshman the party would organise agitations from April 1 to 30 on issues relating to BCs, STs, SCs and unemployed youth, and against allowing more liquor shops in the State.

The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) headed by M Kodandaram will be organising unemployed youth protest rally in Hyderabad on February 22. CPM was the first opposition party started massive protests against the government with its state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram’s `Mahajana Padaayatra’, which has completed 100 days covering all corners of the state. Now, the CPI leaders are staging dharnas over people’s issues.
