Trouble at home for Botsa Satyanarayana: Nephew turns against him?

0

Nothing seems to be going right for senior YSRCP leader Botsa Satyanarayana. His position in the cabinet is hanging by a slender thread. YS Jagan wants to send him to the Rajya Sabha so that a younger leader could take over. His attempts to bring his son into politics have not completely taken shape. As if all these were not enough, he now is facing another major threat to his leadership. The threat is not from any outsider, but from his inner coterie.

Botsa’s nephew China Srinu has always been known as his Man Friday. It was he who used to handle the constituency as Botsa focused on state politics. Even Botsa used to refer any task to Chinna Srinu. But, now Chinna Srinu is the ZP chairperson of Vizianagaram. He is slowly coming into his own. More and more MLAs in the district are now pally with him. Even Botsa’s arch rival and MLA Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy is moving closer to Chinna Srinu.

Both Chinna Srinu and Kolagatla paired up and grabbed the posts of mayor and deputy mayor in the Vizianagaram corporation elections. Similarly, Chinna Srinu’s camp follower Indukuri Raghu Raju was nominated for the MLC seat. Botsa is viewing all these attempts to upstage him with alarm. Similarly, Nellimarla MLA B Appala Naidu too is seen moving closely with Chinna Srinu. Together, Chinna Srinu and Naidu have sidelined Botsa’s brother Lakshmana Rao.

Botsa is reportedly upset that Chinna Srinu is being encouraged by the party’s top leadership. He is unhappy that Chinna Srinu finds ready audience in Tadepalli. The differences have become so deep that both Botsa and Chinna Srinu came separately for the Paiditalli Ammavaru’s Jatara. The differences between Botsa and Chinna Srinu are now the hot topic of debate.

Is distance growing between Botsa and YS Jagan?

Is the gap growing between AP chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Vizianagaram strongman and minister Botsa Satyanarayana? What does one make out of the rumours that YS Jagan might replace Botsa in the upcoming cabinet reshuffle? Why is Botsa visiting New Delhi these days without informing even his protocol team? What is happening in the YSRCP bastion in North Andhra?

Botsa was once the blue-eyed boy of late YSR. Impressed by his ability to clean-sweep Vizianagaram in 2004 elections, YSR gave him a plum post in his council of ministers and strongly defended him when Botsa was embroiled in the Volkswagen controversy. After YSR’s death and the 2014 electoral defeat, Botsa joined the YSRCP in 2015. Since then, he remained loyal to YS Jagan.

After a massive victory in 2019, when the YSRCP made a clean sweep of Vizianagaram, Botsa again became a key leader in Jagan’s scheme of things. But, there is one difference. In 2004, Botsa’s word was law in Vizianagaram. But now, it’s different. Botsa does not enjoy the kind of monopoly that he had enjoyed in 2004. In the recent municipal elections, he could not get tickets for his followers. Instead, his rival in the party and Vizianagaram MLA Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy had a field day. These days, Swamy is able to pip past Botsa on organisational issues. This has made Botsa unhappy. Even YS Jagan seems to be favouring Swamy.

Interestingly, Botsa is not part of any committee that YS Jagan has formed on projects and schemes. Botsa sees this as a clear indication that Jagan does not favour him. Recently, he had recommended the transfer of four DSPs in the district. But, Jagan refused to accept the recommendations. All these incidents show that while Jagan gives Botsa a pride of place, he is not allowing Botsa to take reins of Vizianagaram politics into his hands. No wonder, Botsa is unhappy. Indications are that while Botsa may be retained in the cabinet reshuffle, Jagan may make him powerless in his own borough.

YCP Minister Botsa Satyanarayana has claimed that their party has shown impressive performance in the second phase panchayat elections also. He says the YCP has won a total of 2,639 out of the total 3,328 panchayats while the TDP got just 536, BJP 6 and Jana Sen 36 and others 108. Of the total 2,639 seats won by the YCP, 538 seats were won unanimously.

Botsa clarified that this impressive performance showed how the people were attracted to CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s policies all over the State. The welfare programmes launched by the CM were unique and all the benefits were reaching the beneficiaries as per the schedule.

The Minister strongly criticised former CM Chandrababu Naidu, saying that the TDP chief was trying to divert the attention of the people with his jugglery of words. But the YCP would not tell lies with respect to the field level results in the ongoing panchayat elections.

Botsa further asserted that their Government was all prepared for conducting the municipal elections. This time, the Minister carefully avoided any direct remarks on State Election Commissioner Ramesh Kumar. With the SEC giving harsher punishments after the courts’ intervention, the ruling party Ministers were maintaining some restraint unlike before.
