Extra Ordinary Man Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating: 2/5

Young actor Nithiin has been delivering successful films at times but he is not consistent in his career. Bheeshma was the last theatrical hit for him and he is teaming up with star writer turned director Vakkantham Vamsi for Extra Ordinary Man. Touted to be a commercial entertainer, the promos and songs from Extra Ordinary Man looked decent. Sree Leela is the leading lady and Nithiin’s home banner Sreshth Movies are the producers. Extra Ordinary Man released today and here is the review of the film:

Story:

Extra Ordinary Man is the story of Abhi (Nithiin) who is a junior artist by profession. He aims to become a decent actor in his life. His father Somu (Rao Ramesh) disappoints him regularly but Abhi aims big and works hard. His father gets hospitalized and the family stress falls on Abhi. With no option left, he joins a firm owned by Likitha (Sree Leela). One fine day, Abhi’s friend Siva narrates a script and promises the lead role to Abhi. Soon, Abhi quits his job but Siva changes plans about his film. The rest of Extra Ordinary Man is all about the real twists in the life of Abhi and how he overcomes all the hurdles.

Analysis:

Extra Ordinary Man narrates about the real life incidents that are written in a script. Tollywood audience have seen such super natural thrillers in the past. Vakkantham Vamsi tuned such idea into a commercial entertainer. Though the idea was good, the implementation and narration are extremely poor. Vamsi should have taken enough care on the script. The story unfolds right at the interval episode and the first half offers nothing. Apart from entertainment, the first half of Extra Ordinary Man has nothing.

Abhi turns into a smuggler in the film but the twist is easily predictable. Nithiin impressed as a junior artist and the episodes with his father are thoroughly entertaining. But the audience will not be left excited. All of a sudden, Sree Leela makes a surprise entry as a CEO. Without a bunch of episodes, the lead actors turn close in a minute. Abhi’s dinner episode in Likhitha’s home is hilarious. The episode has satires on Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika, Naresh and Pavithra Lokesh. Dil Raju’s Tamil voice was made into a DJ and it worked well.

The real story happens in Kotia in Odisha and it is inspired by a real life incident. Nithiin turning a lead actor is not designed well and it looks artificial. The entire second half is narrated in a hurry with a lot of confusion. The lead actor follows the script and works accordingly. The lead antagonist’s role is very weak and most of the second half is predictable without twists. When the villanism is weak, there would be no excitement in the audience. Vakkantham Vamsi used the techniques of Kill Bill role from Race Gurram and induced an item number but they failed to do any magic.

Performances:

Nithiin impressed the audience with his comic timing and it worked really well. He did his role with ease. Sree Leela has no scope to perform and she had a limited role. She has to wake up and pick up interesting roles to stay in the industry. Her dubbing too was not impressive. Rajasekhar’s role was poorly written and the audience would be surprised why the veteran actor signed Extra Ordinary Man. The villain’s role too is a huge disappointment. All the other actors did their roles well.

Picking up Harris Jayaraj as the music composer is a wrong choice. Danger Pilla song is good. Even the background score was not up to the mark. The editing work should have been better. Extra Ordinary Man lacks emotional connect in some of the episodes. Vakkantham Vamsi who is one of the successful writers of Telugu cinema failed once again as a director with Extra Ordinary Man.

Verdict :

The intentionally silly script generates comedy on few occasions, falters in second half. In B,C centers this film might find some audience but for others it doesnt make a cut. Director Vakkantham Vamsi’s script idea is good on paper, disappoints in execution.
