Bengaluru court declines anticipatory bail to mining baron Janardhana Reddy

A city court on Friday declined to grant anticipatory bail to Karnatakaa’s mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy, who fears arrest by the state’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) in a Ponzi scheme-related case.

“Additional Sessions Court Judge Vidyadara Shirahatti said he cannot grant anticipatory bail to my client (Reddy) without hearing the prosecution side and adjourned the case to Monday (November 13),” Reddy’s senior counsel C.H. Hanumantharaya told reporters here.

Though the CCB summoned Reddy for interrogation in the Ponzi scam, in which he is accused of shielding its perpetrators from being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Hanumantharaya alleged that the CCB had wrongly framed his client in the case, as his (Reddy’s) name was not in the FIR filed against Ambidant Marketing Ltd suspected to be behind the scam.

When the judge asked the counsel the urgency in seeking anticipatory bail as Reddy was legally bound to appear before the CCB in response to its summons, the counsel said the police was searching for Reddy and raided his residence in the city and Ballari on Wednesday and Thursday in connection with the scam.

Reddy, a former BJP Minister in the state, is on bail in the multi-crore mining scam that rocked the southern state for over a decade from 2002-12.

“The judge has issued notice to the prosecutor for filing objections, if any, against Reddy’s petition for anticipatory bail,” said his counsel.

Reddy’s counsel also sought a court directive to the CCB for changing the investigation officers, as the Ponzi case does not come under their jurisdiction.

The ED on Thursday charged Ambidant owners Syed Fareed Ahmed and his son Syed Afaq Ahmed with running a potential Ponzi scheme offering huge interest to investors in the name of ‘Islamic banking’.

“Investigation revealed that the city-based Ambidant Marketing Ltd has been operating a potential Ponzi scheme and duping hundreds of investors in the name of Islamic banking and ‘Halal’ investment,” the ED said in a statement here.

Since its inception on December 20, 2016, the company is alleged to have received a whopping Rs 954 crore as investments under Haj/Umrah and Ultimate plans.

Interrogation of the Ahmeds (father and son) revealed that the duo had allegedly gifted Reddy 57 kg gold valued at Rs 18 crore through his personal assistant Ali Khan for bailing them out of the cases from the police and the ED.

Gali Janardhan Reddy entering into film industry

The Mining King Gali Janardhan Reddy, who has been facing allegations as well as court cases on illegal mining seems to have now eyed film industry. It seems he will be entering the industry soon. Recently he opened up on his entry into the sandalwood. He released CD of the song he himself sung on 1st November, state formation day of Karnataka in Bengaluru.

He told he will be launching his son Kireeti Reddy as hero on his own production banner. He told he will focus on these activities after March 2018. Kireeti Reddy was seen dancing during his sister’s marriage last year and he was also there in the musical wedding invitation Gali family released. The mining king, is currently on bail and he spent hundreds of crores during marriage of his daughter during demonetization time when common people were suffering in the long queues before the banks. So budget shouldn’t be an issue at all for this cash-rich bigwig. We need to wait and see how lavishly will he be launching his son into the screen land.

Gali Janardhan Reddy vows to bring BJP to power in Karnataka, Telangana and AP

0

Denying reports that he will contest in the next state assembly elections next year, former BJP minister and beleaguered mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy on Saturday said, “I will not contest any election, but will work hard to bring the BJP back to power, not only in Karnataka, but also in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.”

Mr Reddy, who is out on conditional bail in alleged illegal mining related cases, arrived in Ballari on Wednesday after getting permission from the Supreme Court to celebrate his 25 wedding anniversary in his hometown among friends and supporters. Mr Reddy performed a pooja at the temple of Kanaka Durgamma, the principal deity of the town, with his family members.

After visiting the temple, Mr Reddy told reporters, “The question of contesting elections in 2018, directly or indirectly, does not arise under any circumstances or for any reason. I am a loyal BJP worker and am ready to handle party affairs given an opportunity,” he said.

He said that the BJP is gearing up for assembly elections in Karnataka under the leadership of state party president B.S. Yeddyurappa, and he will work hard to make Mr Yeddyurappa the chief minister after the 2018 elections.

He said, “I want to see Mr Narendra Modi as Prime Minister again after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. For that reason, if possible, I will campaign in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to bring the BJP to power in the two states, where I have my own political strength.”

Sources said that Mr Reddy is likely to play a key role in bringing his alleged business ally and YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy into the NDA fold ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and to bring the BJP to power in the two Telugu states.

Though Mr Reddy ruled out contesting elections, sources said that his friends and followers, who are visiting him in Ballari, are pressurising him to get back into electoral politics.

In turn, he told them that if Bharatiya Janata Party’s top brass gives the green signal, he will consider it, the sources said.

“Mr Reddy wants to come back to active politics and handle party affairs, but it remains to be seen how the central leadership will consider his re-entry into electoral politics ahead of the 2018 polls, since the party lost power to Congress in 2013 over the mining scam where Reddy was kingpin,” a senior BJP leader said.
