Court extends singer’s custody in sexual harassment case

A city court on Friday extended, by two weeks, the judicial custody of well-known singer Ghazal Srinivas in sexual harassment case.

He was produced before the Nampally Criminal Court, which extended his remand till January 25.

Srinivas was arrested on January 2 on charges of sexually harassing a woman in the office of Save Temples Organisation here. He was sent to judicial custody till January 12.

The court had also rejected his bail petition on January 5. Meanwhile, the singer moved a fresh bail petition, which will come up for hearing on January 18.

Ghazal Srinivas, whose real name is Kesiraju Srinivas, was arrested on charges of sexually harassing a woman, working as jockey for a web radio ‘Alayavani’ (voice of temples) run by Save Temples Organisation.

Police filed the case against him on the basis of video evidence provided by the 29-year-old complainant, in which she was seen massaging him.

Following the singer’s arrest, Global Hindu Heritage Foundation and Save Temples Organisation suspended him as their brand ambassador.

The 51-year-old, who holds the Guinness World Record for singing in most languages (76) at one concert, has denied the allegations.

TANA Shocking Revelations About Ghazal Srinivas

In the backdrop of recent allegations and arrest of popular Telugu singer Ghazal Srinivas, TANA (Telugu Association Of North America) strongly reacted to the incident. We all know that Ghazal Srinivas was frequently used to visit the USA, so Telugu360 made an attempt to find out his behavior there and approached TANA to comment on it. Speaking to us, TANA board of directors chairman Chalapathi Kondragunta shared that they have banned Ghazal Srinivas 10 years ago, i.e., in 2007.

When asked the reason, he shared that he used to create issues and always tried to spoil the harmony in the community. “We also received similar complaints at that time . But none of them came forward to lodge a complaint, so that time we decided to ban him from all the TANA events,” explains Chalapathi.

He also appreciated the courage that the female employee has to file a complaint and fighting for her self-respect. “The court should punish this kind of harassers and teach a lesson to all, who are taking the advantage of working woman in this country.”

Alongside, a few moments ago, the news came out that Ghazal Srinivas removed as the brand ambassador for Save Temple Campaign. Global Hindu Heritage Foundation, situated in the USA came to know about the allegations on this classical singer and as per the instructions are given by GHHF Prakasa Rao Velagapudi, the board has decided and suspended him from this position on immediate effect.

It all started, when a female employee of Ghazal Srinivas has lodged a complaint in the police station and also submitted a video of evidence, in which reportedly, Srinivas was seen getting a body massage by female employees of his company and also involved in sexual activities with them. He was arrested and sent into custody for seven more days. The bail petition also reportedly, rejected by the court.

AP minister takes ‘U’ turn on Ghazal Srinivas

AP endowment minister Manikyala Rao, who supported Ghazal Srinivas on yesterday, takes ‘U’ turn today and even apologized victim for supporting Ghazal Srinivas.

It is known news that Ghazal Srinivas was arrested 2 days back on allegations of sexual harassment as victim approached police with full video evidences. But yesterday minister supported Srinivas and doubted whether any conspiracy to malign Ghazal Srinivas reputation.

However, he told today that he watched the video evidences that victim gave to police and he was appalled by seeing them. He added, he had seen only one side of the coin but only after watching videos he understood the other side of Ghazal Srinivas. He told he feels ashamed of supportinf such person yesterday. He urged the government to take severe action on Srinivas.

It should be appreciated that minister showed no ego to take back his words and publicly aplogizing the victim for the stand he took yesterday. But at the sametime, people at higher positions always have to verify the facts first before giving public statements.

Manikyala Rao supported Ghazal Srinivas

Prominent singer Ghazal Srinivas, who was arrested yesterday on allegations of sexual harassment got support from unexpected quarters. AP endowment minister Manikyala Rao supported Ghazal Srinivas and even certified he is innocent.

Speaking to a TV channel, minister Manakyala Rao told, he knows Ghazal Srinivas for past several years and knows his character fully. He told Srinivas was always spiritual person and these allegations are all false. He also opined that there is some conspiracy behind this. He even questioned media people, how can someone shoot such videos if there is no conspiracy.

However, minister’s comments met criticism from social activists who opined, Manikyala Rao’s statements are irresponsible. They added, being in a responsible post, he shouldn’t have supported Ghazal Srinivas as that would make it difficult for other future victims to come out and report this kind of harassment incidents. They questioned whether minister will support accused if his family members were in the similar position as victims.

Ghazal’s bail petition adjourns tomorrow

Bail petition filed by the prominent Ghazal singar Mr. Ghazal Srinivas, who was arrested yesterday on allegations of sexual harassment and was lodged in Chanchalguda Central Prison as under trial prisoner (No. 1827) and custody petition filed by Punjagutta police have been adjourned for tomorrow by Nampally court.

The advocate of Ghazal Srinivas argued that police did not give time to his client in explaining his version to cops and there was no need for police custody. He argued that police arrested him under sections 354 and 354A of IPC which are station bailable, but, police did not consider it. Meanwhile, Punjagutta police sought custody of Ghazal Srinivas for at least five days as they have to record his statement. They also requested the court in their counter petition to don’t issue bail orders to him.
