Can Jagan replicate NTR feat?

The 40-minute meeting of YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy with media baron Cherukuri Ramoji Rao on Monday at the latter’s hilltop residence in Ramoji Film City has given the media mills in the Telugu states enough grist to grind.

There are more reasons than one can think for Jagan’s surprise visit to his arch rival in media and politics. Though Ramoji Rao is not a politician, his unstinted support to Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) when he launched the Telugu Desam Party in 1982 was instrumental in bringing the legendary actor to power a year later.

It was also a well known fact that Eenaadu, with multiple district editions, had given such a boost to NTR’s political campaign on his Chaitanya Ratham that the mass hero of silver screen was propelled into the mass leader of crores of Telugus. In other words, Ramoji Rao had shown the world, way back in the 1980s before the advent of satellite TV in this country the power of printed word. He was a kingmaker at that time and continues to play a pivotal role in moulding public opinion, particularly among the middle and rural classes through Eenaadu.

So, it’s not surprising to see YSR Congress boss meet Ramoji Rao a week before his padayatra, scheduled to begin on November 2. During his 3,000km foot journey through Andhra Pradesh, he wants to understand the people’s problems and share their concerns over a host of issues.

In fact, this is not the first time that Jagan planning a mega walkathon throughout AP. He has undertaken such foot marches a la Mahatma Gandhi, Chandrababu Naidu, etc to drum up support for his party. But this is the first time that he changed the tack and strategy with an eye on 2019 Assembly elections.

Though his meeting with the biggest Telugu media baron was ostensibly described as “seeking blessings for his padayatra and cooperation in covering it on the TV and in the newspaper (read, please don’t downplay or underplay the tour), media projection of NTR before and after he became the chief minister seems to have goaded Jagan into befriending digital and print media.

He is doing this despite the fact that Sakshi newspaper and TV trumpet every move and word of Jagan, including his diatribes against Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and unsubstantiated scams and scandals against the ruling TDP.

When what is shown on the TV and written in the newspaper is one sided and viewed/read incredulously, efforts to project a clean image carry the risk of boomeranging.

YS Jagan desperation at peaks?

0

YS Jagan determined to start his foot march on 2nd November, despite receiving set back from the court yesterday. Before this “Pada yathra” he wants to ensure he gets proper coverage for his tour in the print and electronic media. Yesterday he suddenly went to Ramoji house and reportedly sought Ramoji’s blessings. But Jagan is not stopping this with just ‘Eenadu’.

Jagan also invited all TV channel CEO’s to his Lotus Pond to request support for his Padayatra today at 3 PM. Reportedly he also requested a top TV channel CEO that he wants to come to his house. But it seems, that TV channel CEO denied to meet Jagan. But Jagan is still trying to get his appointment through multiple common contacts.

Though there is nothing wrong in seeking media blessings and requesting them to give some coverage, Jagan doing all these things now is definitely surprising all considering his attitude and how he dealt these guys. Previously when Sakshi started, he almost waged a war with Eenadu. In the past, there were several instances where he referred Ramoji as “Dramoji” and also he used to write “counter articles” in Sakshi for the articles written in Eenadu. Same goes with the top tv channel too. He used to tag that channel also as “anti-Jagan”. But seems the things have changed a lot now. Some say, Jagan doing all these things now, clearly shows his desperation for CM post.

Its official, no other clients for Prashant Kishor except YSRCP now

0

Prashanth Kishor

Political strategist Prashant Kishor(PK) who is the most sought after by almost all political parties till couple of years back, now seems to have no clients. He was the man behind Modi’s 2012 Gujarat election campaign and 2014 general elections. Later in 2015, his winning streak continued with a surprise victory in Bihar elections for Nitish Kumar. He is currently working for YSRCP and Jagan as chief strategist. Surprisingly, he doesn’t have any other clients other than YSRCP now. Let’s see the reasons.

The Congress gave free hand to Prashant Kishor in UP election campaign but Congress debacled in UP elections. In Punjab also PK worked for Congress. But Congress main leader Amarinder kept him at a distance and applied his own strategies. Surprisingly Congress won in Punjab. This was discussed in Congress recent meetings. Congress party is now in talks with big data firm Cambridge Analytical which has in the past worked for Donald Trump’s Presidential campaign and the Brexit.

Now, there will be state elections in 8 states are coming up, Prashant is not a chief strategist to any political party in these states surprisingly. “Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC)” led by Prashant Kishor had clarified that they are working only for Jagan as of now and they are not working for any other political party in India at the moment.

Congress, BJP and respective state parties started working for 2019 lok sabha polls via assembly elections in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. But Prashant Kishor is not pursued by these political parties. We have to wait and see if PK will become busy again as elections approach or he will be left with only YSRCP until 2019.

First Padayatra then BusYatra – Jagan

0

Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will be undertaking Bus Yatra after he finishes the Padayatra which is all set to commence on 2 November. In the six-months Padaytra, Jagan will cover 3000 kms and cover 120 constituencies. The remaining 55 constituencies will be covered by Bus Yatra after six months.

Nagari MLA Roja on Wednesday noted that the YS family brand mark for padayatra. She said that the state is in crisis and Jagan has taken the responsibility to defend the state by doing walkathon. She criticized Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for giving up special category status. The actor-cum-politician demanded the government to release a white paper on the benefits of a special package.

TDP Ministers launched a tirade of accusations against Jagan’s Padayatra and Yuvabheri. Responding to the comments, Roja said the ministers are unable to digest the success of Yuvabheri. She said that ministers are fleeing from constituencies where they are unable to answer the questions asked by people.

Two Yuva Netas, Two Yatras and Special Category Status

0

Andhra Pradesh has two parties which are nascent and run by Yuvanetas. While the YSR Congress Party is currently playing the role of opposition, Jana Sena party is structuring itself towards real time politics.

Both the leaders, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Pawan Kalyan are crowd pullers. Kalyan’s political experience comes from leading the youth wing Yuva Rajyam during his stint with now defunct Praja Rajyam party.

In his re-entry, Kalyan wants to avoid turncoats and said that at least 65% new comers will be given tickets. On the other hand, Jagan’s party is a party of defectors and Y S Rajashekar Reddy supports.

Legendary NTR who marched in the assembly with entirely new faces, had to depend on experienced politicians who later secured place in the then TDP cabinet.

Conversely, the seniors have become voiceless in Jagan’s party. Likewise, Kalyan will indisputably have a final go even if he gives chance to seniors.

YSRCP explicitly said that they are not looking for alliances. But Kalyan remained tentative on partnerships. Jagan bluntly said that he wants to be Chief Minister. But Kalyan discreetly said he will work for people and is not aspiring posts.

In the meantime, Jana Sena announced Padayatra or Bus Yatra which would stretch for about two months. While Jagan has given a date for his six months Padayatra, Kalyan is yet to enter fulltime politics.

Nonetheless both are going into people with one agenda – Special Category status for Andhra Pradesh. Jagan said that due to yearly exams, college admissions and various reasons for about six months he did not raise the SCS topic. He indicated that without students help, it is difficult to achieve.

On 26January, when students wanted to protest, Jagan came forward to support them while Kalyan tweeted support. In these six months’ political equations changed, but finally YSRCP decided to go alone, with SCS as agenda into the people.
On the other hand, TDP clearly stated that Janasena is ally while the latter noted that alliance ended after 2014 elections. Kalyan has been going soft on the not-an-ally (maybe ally).

With several situations that transpired, will the two parties be able to create confidence among people that special status can be achieved remains an unanswered question.

In this backdrop, Chandrababu Naidu may want to avoid alliance with BJP if these two Yuva Netas with their Yatras manage to strengthen the SCS sentiment among the people.

Jagan’s Padayatra to take Friday off, likely to fly to Hyd

0

The Court which gave exemption to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during 2014 election from attending court for three months, has been dismissing most of the petitions filed by the opposition leader in the Disproportionate assets case.

While the lawyers are anticipating to get at least two-month exemption, incase otherwise, his team purportedly will arrange private aircraft to Hyderabad using on every Friday to attend the court, as per DC.

However, Jagan is allegedly preparing for the worst-case scenario in case the court denies him exemption from court proceedings for six months. It may be noted that Jagan will be launching his Padyatra on November 2 from Idupulapaya in Kadapa and will end it at Ichchapuram in Srikakulam covering 3000kms.

Students attending Jagan’s Yuvabheri will become criminals: TDP Minister

0

Verbal attacks are inherent in politics but must be limited to the person. Minister for Civil Supplies Prathipati Pulla Rao in an urge to attack the opposition leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for his Yuvabheri programme said, “Parents should also understand that their kin who attend Jagan’s Yuvabheri will become criminals and cannot think in right direction”.

Furthermore, he advised the parents to realise that if their children will also get ideas like the YSRCP supremo. He noted that good notions and right direction is possible only with the help of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

The TDP minister deplored that by conducting Yuvabheri, Jagan is cheating the youngsters. The Minister in the process of venting out anger on the opposition leader, failed to realise that he is attacking a sensitive population. With the minister’s logic, a lot of population have already become criminals as Jagan is known to be a crowd-puller.

Investors will not come to AP because of Jagan & Chandrababu

0

Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said that nobody in the state raises the topic of Special Category status except for YSR Congress Party. Speaking at Yuvabheri in Anantapur on Tuesday, he said that as a last resort he will ask YSRCP MP’s to resign for securing special status.

“Companies will not invest in the state based looking at the faces of Chandrababu or mine. They will invest when there are tax exemptions given in the state”, said Jagan detailing the perks assured to the states with special category status.

Several institutions would have come up by now if special status was given three years ago and students future would have been secured. He asked the students to make the 3000kms Padayatra which the party is conducting from November for special status a grand success.

In his interactive session with students, Jagan highlighted the promises made to Anantapur which the ruling party failed to deliver. He stated that due to the exams sessions and new admissions, there was a break in running Yuvabheri.

During his session with students, the YSRCP supremo played videos of the election promises made by Chief Minister and the entire saga of special category status. He noted that Venkaiah Naidu asked for Special status, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chandrababu Naidu used it as election formula to woo voters but soon backtracked on the promise.

Jagan taunts Chandrababu for taking help from Rajamouli on Amaravati

0

Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “If someone wants to construct a building, they would go to an architect. Whichever movie sets Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu likes, he will call those directors and gives them Amaravati contracts. I have never seen such a person”.

Responding to a question posed by a Civil engineering student at Anantapur YuvaBheri, the YSRCP supremo said, “There is nothing permanent in Amaravati, everything is temporary. Nobody knows where the assembly is where it will come up.”

He jibed that towards the end of his tenure Chandrababu will neither construct a building nor will he do any programme but will indeed show a “cinema” to people of Andhra Pradesh

Jagan said that even the vilest of Chief Ministers would at least construct 4 buildings in the 4 years and call it capital. He alleged that Chandrababu took Rs 2500 crore for construction of capital from the Centre. He also pointed that the Centre is open to give more money provided the state governments submit the bills. Unfortunately, the TDP government doesn’t give bills and the Centre won’t give money.

Jagan seeks 6months exemption, Laxminarayana refuses to speak on DA case

0

Former Joint Director of CBI and Maharashtra Additional DGP Lakshminarayana responding to a question on the disproportionate assets case and allegations against Andhra Pradesh opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, said “I’m working in Maharashtra now. I cannot talk anything now”

Lakshminarayana participating in National Swadeshi Suraksha rally held in Vijayawada on Saturday requested the public to inform the government immediately if they knew about the corrupt officials.

On the other hand, the YSRCP supremo filed a petition in the CBI special court requesting exemption from attending the court every Friday for a period of six months so that he can go-ahead with his Padayatra in the state. He noted that being a people’s representative he needs to get face-to-face information about the problems faced by public. The court will be hearing the matter on October13.

Jagan to start “Padayatra” from November 2nd

0

YCRSP chief Jagan is planning to start his ‘Padayatra’ from 2nd November. During this, he will tour entire state, covering approximately 3000 km. He will start the tour from Idupulapaya on November.

It is known news that he previously announced that he will commence this state tour on 27th October but later cancelled it as that date falls on Friday and he has to attend court personally on Friday regarding his illegal assets cases by CBI. He even sought for the permission from court to exempt him from attending personally. But court has rejected his appeal. So, as he can not start the tour on Friday, he cancelled.

Now he announced a new date that is, 2nd November which falls on Thursday. So, if he starts the tour on Thursday, he will have to give break for the tour on the next day itself to attend the court. Obviously the ruling party will take a dig at these breaks during Padayatra and we have to see how Jagan responds on this.

Whom is Jagan trying to appease?

0

Andhra Pradesh leaders of various parties have several times in the past, tried to make an issue out of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s religious faith and the secular nature of YSR Congress party. When Congress tried to attack on Jagan’s faith in 2012, it backfired.

However, the YSRCP president meeting Chinna Jeeyar Swami at Hyderabad is being probed in various angles. This is not the first time that Jagan has visited Hindu shrines or Godmen. After 2014 elections, there has been a dramatic change in Jagan and his family’s religious believes. Even in his Nandyal campaign, the opposition leader made references to religious epics.

Why is he trying to invoke divine help from of Hindu Gods? Is Jagan trying to shrug off the communal and caste angle? Is it only to gain political mileage for appeasing the majoritarians? Is it because of his latest affinity towards BJP? Is he taking a leaf out of KCR’s beliefs which he dons to have helped realize his dreams? Is it something beyond that?

Nonetheless, it is good to keep such visits away from the media gaze, and would be even better if Jagan once for all speaks about his beliefs. When Chandrababu Naidu or any other leader visits shrines of various faith and talks to the godmen, not much is spoken or written about.

However, the reactions to Jagan’s inclination towards Hinduism, exposes the pretense among other parties of being secular. Nonetheless, he like any other citizen is shielded by Indian constitution which grants the right to freely profess, practice, and propagate religion subject to public order.

PK’s survey reports Kakinada elections loss no big deal for YSRCP

0

Political strategist Prashant Kishor’s reportedly conducted a survey to study the loss of YSR Congress Party in Nandyal and Kakinada elections. As per the survey, Kakinda Municipal Elections was ‘no loss no gain’ gig for YSRCP. Specifically, because TDP did not win additional voters confidence compared to the 2014 elections.

In 2014 elections, TDP in Kakinada polled 76467 votes while YSRCP polled 52467 votes of the 140523voters. TDP won with 24000 majority

In 2017, municipal elections TDP secured 69534 votes while BJP polled 7813votes. YSRCP secured 50944 votes. Totally 148582 votes were polled.

Even though TDP secured majority of wards, the number of votes have not increased enormously. Despite the ruling party announcing several welfare schemes, it reportedly has not done much to woo the Urban voters.

Chandrababu deplores Sakshi’s report on stealing water

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu came down heavily on opposition leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for accusing him of stealing water. Pointing out at the report run by Sakshi Newspaper about diverting huge quantity of water from Pothireddypadu, Naidu asked, “How can giving water be termed as stealing?”

It may be noted that Jagan owned media house Sakshi, ran a report on drawing water from Pothireddypadu in two different styles based on the region on Thursday. While in Telangana edition they critiqued Naidu for stealing water, in AP edition, they just said the water diversion has been halted.

AP CM deplored that Sakshi in its Telangana edition are writing only with the intention to provoke people of the neighbouring state. TDP supremo asked, “Why are you obstructing us from providing water to Pulivendula and Kadapa?” He said that the Krishna waters are being used in equal proportion in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He critiqued the opposition for stalling everything and that too in a very ghastly manner.

YSRCP leaders fail Jagan again

0

Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is in London to complete his daughter’s admission process in London School of Economics. When Chandrababu Naidu was touring in United States only Nara Lokesh was present at secretariat for the people. But in YSR Congress party leaders are confined to their own work and hardly any one responding to people issues.

While Jagan was away holidaying in New Zealand earlier this year, TDP was successful in blaming YSRCP over the pipe leakage issue in assembly. The YSRCP chief reportedly took a serious note and expressed discontent over the party affairs in his absence.

Likewise, the opposition party leaders failed to make the most of the Sadavarti land auctioning which fetched about three times more than the previous bid amount on Monday.

Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said that the YSRCP is alleging that the property was worth Rs 1000 crores while it fetched only Rs 61crore. This time again the ruling leaders successfully impugned the opposition for false propaganda.

YSRCP spokesman Parthasarathy had nothing new to offer and demanded probe against the entire incident. Following the defeat in Nandyal and Kakinada elections, YSRCP leaders have calm down and firebrand Roja who was considered as second head, is also confining herself to her constituency.

The opposition party has missed many opportunities to target the ruling party and the winds still continue to blow in the same direction.
