Telangana media speculates KCR’s role at Centre

0

Confident of a clean sweep in Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) could be eyeing a key role in the post-poll scenario at the Centre.

Specifically, this is about a role in government formation post-May 23, based on speculation over one of the biggest imponderables in Indian politics — the expected number of seats a political party is likely to win in an election.

With polling for all 17 Lok Sabha seats over in the first phase on April 11, TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao is busy holding consultations with senior leaders and close aides on the possible scenarios at the Centre and how the party could play a role in national politics.

KCR, as Rao is known among his supporters, is said to be following the trends in various states to evaluate the situation and devise his strategy accordingly.

‘T News’, a Telugu news channel owned by KCR’s close aide and other pro-TRS media say that with 16 seats KCR will bring together other like-minded parties to play a crucial role in cobbling together a non-BJP and non-Congress alliance.

Other Telugu newspapers and television channels predict that KCR will be looking to play a greater role in shaping the next government at the Centre. They say that in the event of a fractured verdict, KCR would be ready to do business with anybody at the Centre as the state’s interests will be paramount for him.

Telangana is looking for greater allocation of funds for several ambitious projects undertaken by TRS, KCR may back anyone offering better deal for Telangana, says the local media.

The TRS chief remains confident that neither the BJP nor the Congress will be in a position to come to power even with the support of allies. A populist leader, his confidence comes from the self-assurance that his political formula of being liberal with sops is successful.

Last year KCR mooted the idea of a Federal Front as an alternative to the BJP and the Congress. He believes that conditions are conducive for regional parties to form a government at the Centre.

The TRS chief, who also visited various states to call on leaders of non-BJP and non-Congress parties, did not hide his ambition of playing a key role at the Centre. Though during the campaign, he made it clear that he has no wish to become the Prime Minister, his son and TRS working president K. T. Rama Rao did not rule out the possibility of his emerging as the leader.

“Anything is possible,” KTR had told IANS in a recent interview. He claimed that the country needed the intellect of KCR to address the issues, which both the ‘so-called national parties’ failed to solve.

In fact, a fractured mandate could see other southern Indian politicians jousting for a role at the Centre. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of YSR Congress Party could emerge as one of the big regional players after the polls.

Though the Federal Front has not yet taken a shape, KTR remains optimistic that this will take no time once the results were announced. He pointed that United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was formed and a leader was chosen only after the elections in 2004.

KCR did not contest the Lok Sabha elections and TRS leaders say his next move would depend on the post-poll scenario. He along with his daughter K. Kavitha and close aide B. Vinod Kumar will be the key figures in national politics. Kavitha and Vinod Kumar are seeking re-election from Nizamabad and Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituencies.

In the event of KCR moving to Delhi, his son KTR will be his successor as chief minister. The TRS chief dropped clear hints by appointing him as the TRS working president soon after the party won second term in power with a landslide victory.

Even in KCR’s first cabinet, KTR was seen as Number 2. The young leader held several key portfolios, including industry and information technology, and was the face of the government at key national and international events.

KCR did not induct KTR and his nephew and key party leader Harish Rao in the cabinet this time, apparently waiting for a clear picture to emerge at the Centre. He has not allotted key portfolios like finance, industry, agriculture and irrigation.

Harish Rao, who was the irrigation minister in the previous cabinet, may be part of the cabinet headed by KTR — though there have been reports of differences between KTR and Harish, they publicly denied it.

During the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, TRS urged people to give it all 16 seats (leaving Hyderabad for its ally All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) so that the party can decide who should form the government in New Delhi and who should be the Prime Minister.

KCR assures party cadre on delimitation of constituencies

0

Telangana chief minister and TRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao has assured the party cadre and leaders on the delimitation of constituencies. The number of Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Telangana will be increased very soon and this will pave the way to more opportunities to party aspirants. KCR has exerted confidence of winning 16 Lok Sabha seats as about 10 surveys have already confirmed the pink party’s sweep across the state. KCR has named first ZP chairperson while allocating responsibilities of ZPTC and MPTC elections to ministers, MLCs, MPs and MLAs.

KCR has named Kova Laxmi as Adilabad ZP chairperson candidate and briefed the party cadres and leaders about the party’s strategic plan to win 32 ZP chairman posts.

As part of the coordination plan, every minister will take responsibility of two districts, while MLCs and MPs would act as coordinators for the elections.

KCR has drawn up an action plan to win 535 ZPTC, 5,857 MPTC and 32 ZP chairman posts in Telangana. KCR has already wrote a letter to the Election Commission (EC) to hold elections before May 23.

“TRS party will accommodate all the committed partymen and senior leaders. The delimitation of constituencies will definitely take place. As the number of Assembly and Lok Sabha seats will go up, more opportunities will be available for our party cadre. Those talented leaders and committed party workers, who joined recently, will also get good opportunities in the days to come,” remarked KCR.

The TRS government is committed to clean up the revenue and municipal departments totally.. maintained KCR.

Telangana CM submits explanation to poll panel

0

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday submitted his explanation to the Election Commission, which had served notice to him for violating the Model Code of Conduct by allegedly making derogatory remarks against Hindus in his speech at an election rally.

A delegation of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders submitted this letter to Additional Chief Electoral Officer Jyothi Buddha Prakash.

The poll panel had served a notice on the TRS chief on April 9, asking him to submit an explanation on or before April 12.

The EC had received a complaint from Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) State President M. Rama Raju that KCR, as Rao is popularly known, made derogatory remarks during an election rally at Karimnagar on March 17.

The poll panel prima facie found that Rao’s remarks had the apotential of disturbing harmony and aggravating the existing differences between social and religious communities.

It said by making the statement and appealing to communal feelings, Rao violated the Model Code of Conduct.

KCR keen on AP outcome than MP seats in Telangana

0

Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao seems to be more keen on the outcome in Andhra Pradesh than Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. Since the election campaign concluded, KCR is spending more time on knowing brewing sentiment in the AP and impact of his support extended to Special Category Status (SCS) to the Andhra Pradesh.

TRS supremo on Tuesday concluded his election campaign focusing more on AP issues like special status and Polavaram project.

Addressing the last public meeting in Vikarabad, KCR spoke clearly whom he’s supporting and who’ll be the winner in AP elections highlighting the YSRCP chances. After initial support to YSRCP, KCR kept silence fearing a backlash in AP and this would benefit TDP on the lines how the pink party gained majority after Chandrababu Naidu campaigned in Telangana during Assembly elections held in December 2018.

The moment KCR announced his support to special status to AP, Chandrababu Naidu didn’t waste a minute to exploit the advantage of it by highlighting the undercurrent friendship of TRS and YSRCP. This has left confusion over who’ll benefit from KCR’s remarks. Political analysts are skeptical over guessing whether YSRCP or TDP.

TRS in Assembly elections won 88 MLA seats and immediately made it 90 as two independent MLAs joined the pink party. Later two TDP and eight Congress MLAs defected to TRS taking the total tally to 100. With this, TRS enjoys more than a comfortable position in the 119-seat Telangana Assembly. Now, TRS has set a target of winning 16 MP seats out of 17 in Telangana leaving one to its friendly party AIMIM.

Election Commission serves notice to KCR

0

The Election Commission has served notice to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for violating the Model Code of Conduct for making “derogatory” remarks against Hindus in his speech at an election rally.

The poll panel, which received a complaint from Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has found that Rao’s remarks had the “potential to disturb harmony and aggravate the existing differences between social and religious communities”.

The panel in its notice said it was prima facie of the opinion that by making the statement and appealing to communal feelings, Rao violated the Model Code of Conduct.

It asked the Telenagana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief to submit an explanation on or before April 12.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, made the remarks during an election rally at Karimnagar on March 17.

VHP state chief M. Rama Raju had lodged a complaint against KCR with the Chief Electoral Officer the next day.

Why KCR backing AP on spl category status?

0

Hyderabad: After brief period of strategic silence on AP politics, Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao spoke on Andhra Pradesh a day before the conclusion of election campaign. Though everybody was expecting some bold statement from KCR on AP politics on last day of campaign, the TRS supremo exerted his support to the demand for Special Category Status (SCS) by Andhra Pradesh. Will it benefit YSRCP?

“TDP and Jana Sena have been campaigning highlighting the need of special status to AP, while criticizing TRS for blocking this need. Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan also spoke about under current friendship of KCR and YS Jaganmohan Reddy. In early phase of poll campaign, KCR spoke positively about YSRCP, but immediately stopped his support after observing backlash from Andhraites. KCR has realized that if he speaks about supporting YSRCP that’ll boomarng to him as it spoils the winning chances for YSRCP. This is similar to Chandrababu Naidu’s campaigning in Telangana and it boomeranged for TDP as it benefited TRS. If KCR talks positively about YSRCP, this would benefit TDP. That’s the reason, KCR maintained silence during the course of election campaigning and spoke positively about special status to AP and extended his support to this cause on last leg of poll campaign. The aim of breaking his silence by announcing support to special status is to make Andhra voters positive towards YSRCP,” observes a senior political analyst.

Speaking at a public meeting in Vikarabad on Monday, KCR said: “We’re not against people of Andhra Pradesh, but certainly against N Chandrababu Naidu as he created problems and continuing to do so. We would like to develop Telangana and also want AP to prosper. The TRS government would like to support the demand of AP for special status. We have also no opposition to Polavaram project. My ideal is that both the Telugu states should prosper without causing troubles to each other.”

Telangana’s KCR grooms son as his successor (Dynasty Politics)

0

Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao, who revived the Telangana movement and achieved the goal of statehood for the region, is not only firmly in the saddle but is also grooming his son as his successor.

KCR, as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) supremo is popularly known, took over as the Chief Minister of India’s youngest state for a second consecutive term in December 2018, following his party’s landslide victory.

With plans to play a key role in national politics in the event of non-BJP and non-Congress parties emerging as the biggest block in Lok Sabha, the 65-year-old has left no one in doubt as to who his successor will be.

After leading TRS to a resounding victory, KCR made his son K. Taraka Rama Rao the party’s working president. KTR, as the young leader is popularly known, has not been inducted in the cabinet by KCR. As the TRS chief has also not allocated key portfolios, the buzz in the party is that he is waiting for a clear picture to emerge at the Centre after the Lok Sabha polls.

KTR was a minister in KCR’s earlier cabinet and was seen as the number two in both the government and the party. A polyglot, like his father, and known for good oratory skills, KTR was often been the de facto Chief Minister, representing the state at several events.

The US-educated leader with an information technology background, held key portfolios of information technology, industry and urban development in the previous cabinet. With his connect with the youth and social outreach effectively using the social media tools, he has become a popular face of the TRS.

Be it holding talks with IT and other industry honchos, signing of MoUs or delivering talks on the new state’s initiatives at mega events, he has hogged the limelight. Politically, he played a key role in getting leaders, including legislators from other parties, join the TRS. He also led the party to its first victory in the municipal elections in Hyderabad in 2015.

KTR and his only sister, K. Kavitha, entered politics when the Telangana movement led by their father was at its peak. KTR made his electoral debut from Sircilla in Karimnagar in 2009. He was re-elected in 2014 and 2018.

Kavitha, who mobilised women during the Telangana movement through cultural activities, was elected to Lok Sabha from Nizamabad constituency in 2014. She is seeking re-election in the April 11 polls.

Both KTR and Kavitha dismissed criticism by their political rivals that KCR is encouraging dynasty politics. “We have been elected by people,” is their common refrain.

When KCR revived the Telangana movement by floating the TRS in 2001 after quitting the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), his nephew T. Harish Rao was one of those who were by his side. Making a modest beginning as media incharge, he grew stronger in the organisation and played a key role in the movement.

Harish Rao became a minister in the Congress-led coalition government in 2004. A leader with considerable support at the grassroots, he has been elected to Assembly six times from Siddipet and improved his majority with every election. In the recent polls, he retained the seat with a margin of over 1.20 lakh votes.

There have been reports of Harish Rao being unhappy over the way KCR brought in his son and has been promoting him as his successor. However, publicly the cousins deny any differences.

Harish Rao, who was irrigation minister in KCR’s earlier cabinet, has not been inducted this time amid the buzz that the TRS chief is sidelining him to pave way for his son’s ascension.

Harish Rao’s induction in the cabinet may depend on the post-poll scenario at the Centre. If KCR remains the Chief Minister, Harish may again find a cabinet berth.

KCR master plan – Reunification slogan to improve TRS prospects

0

Telangana CM Chandrasekhar Rao has no scarcity for novel techniques to save his TRS party from any crisis. In recent days ahead of the April 11 election, the TRS is facing a new threat from the pro-Telangana forces and organisations across the state. They are openly questioning the TRS failures in respect of delivery of the KCR government’s promises. The Osmania University students have once again brought up the issue of Telangana backwardness and its aspirations.

Against this backdrop, KCR began the slogan of Reunification of Telangana. This is just another name for his Operation Aakarsh to attract strong leaders and their cadres from other parties. KCR has been doing this ever since founding his party. He has successfully blackmailed many leaders under the name of Telangana agitation. A situation prevailed once that Congress and TDP leaders in Telangana were terrified to criticize KCR as he might brand them as anti-Telangana. Now, KCR is using his power as the chief minister to persuade or force or blackmail other parties leaders to join the TRS. The joining of former minister Mandava Venkateswara Rao is just one small example. The Reunification is needed badly for KCR to save his party from the rising wave of dissatisfaction among different sections especially farmers and anti-backwardness activists.

Why KCR inviting Mandava into party fold?

0

Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister has invited former TDP minister Mandava Venkateshwar Rao into the party. Mandava is a former colleague of KCR during the TDP regime in the united Andhra Pradesh. Why KCR is luring Mandava is the question making rounds in the political circles.

“The answer is simple. The contesting of 185 candidates in Nizamabad is posing a major hurdle for TRS and Mandava has good hold in the farming community in the Nizamabad district. That’s the reason, KCR has personally went to Mandava’s home to invite him to join the TRS party,” said a political analyst.

With 185 candidates contesting in Lok Sabha constituency, Nizamabad has attracted the nation’s attention. Farmers of turmeric and jowar turned against the TRS over not getting minimum support price (MSP) for their produce. Though it’s central subject, farmers are showing their ire over TRS. In protest against the Centre and state governments, farmers numbering over 185 have filed their nominations for the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency. This has created a tough time for sitting MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of KCR.

Mandava’s joining TRS came up for discussion among the political circles before assembly elections also. Mandava was invited before Assembly elections in December 2018, but he didn’t show interest as TDP was contesting under Mahakutami banner.

Cutting across the party lines, KCR and Mandava have cordial relations. Mandava was MLA for five terms and served as major irrigation minister during the TDP ruling in the united AP.

Farmers are demanding for ballot paper instead of EVMs and Congress is also supporting this demand.

It’s difficult for rural voters to identify the candidate of their choice sorting out 185 candidates on EVM, said farmers in a representation to the Election Commission (EC), while requesting for normal ballot paper. This created concerns among the TRS cadres as it’ll dent the vote bank. The truck and similar vehicle symbols damaged TRS vote bank in the Assembly elections as rural voters got confused and voted for other vehicle symbols instead of car symbol. With lengthy list of 185 candidates in the fray, TRS is worried over the poll pattern in the rural areas of Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency. Barring Mandava, all the TDP leaders and cadres joined TRS.

KCR government performed poorly on voter concerns: ADR

0

The K. Chandrashekar Rao government in Telangana performed ‘below average’ on the most important concerns of voters including employment opportunities, healthcare facilities and public transport, says a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Released on Friday, the ‘Telangana Survey 2018’ said the government also performed “poorly” in providing water for agriculture and tackling problems arising due to mining and quarrying.

Across the state, the major concerns of voters were better employment opportunities (65.99 per cent), better hospitals and primary healthcare centres (33.23 per cent) and improved public transport (25.89 per cent), according to the survey report by the election watchdog.

In rural Telangana, the top priorities were employment opportunities (63 per cent), higher price realization for farm products (45 per cent) and subsidy for seeds and fertilizers (44 per cent). The government performed ‘below average’ on all three, it said.

Employment (71 per cent), noise pollution (50 per cent) as well as air and water pollution (40 per cent) continued to be huge concerns for the urban voters.

Andhra Vs Telangana – it’s a battle of sentiments now

0

K Chandrasekhara Rao came to power by whipping up Telangana sentiment in 2018. In Andhra politics, such regional sentiments usually do not work. Even if they are there, they will not work like a miracle. It’s because Andhra voters are divided across caste and religious lines vertically. The scene has changed to a large extent this time. There is an under current of Andhra sentiment which is in a subtle, steady form.

While KCR used abusive and offensive language to raise T-sentiment, Chandrababu Naidu is just sharply criticising Jagan, Modi and KCR. Naidu’s game plan is clear. He does not use offensive language like he never did in his four decades of long political career. But he is bringing up Andhra sentiment in an indirect way. Thus, anti-Modi and anti-KCR sentiments are building up across the state, which is raising pro-Andhra sentiment eventually.

It is in this respect that the opposition YCP is not able to take full advantage of anti-government factor. Even Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan is not able to make expected impact just because he is not fully addressing Andhra sentiment. Analysts say that like Telangana, there is a chance the TDP will finally get an edge by riding the sentiment wave.

Return gift: What’s brewing up in KCR’s strategic silence on AP politics?

0

Suddenly Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) supremo and Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and the pink party leaders turned silent about Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. No one from the pink party is neither questioning nor criticizing the TDP party, however, there’s a continuous effort from KCR behind the screen, observe political analysts, who attributed the reason for TRS strategic silence to fear of backlash amid strong sentiment across Andhra Pradesh.

With Amaravati capital city getting a proper structure, Andhra voters have turned keen on the development front. In addition to this, several projects are nearing completion in the state. For instance, Pattiseema Lift Irrigation project has turned out to be a boon to drought-hit Rayalaseema. Anantapur district is receiving water. Moreover, Naidu has been implementing several welfare schemes for farmers, women, old-aged people, minorities and backward sections. This created a positive atmosphere among voters, observed political analysts.

“Considering this, TRS has realized that any criticism on TDP or Chandrababu Naidu will result in backlash similar to what happened in Telangana when Naidu campaigned. If TRS leaders or KCR criticize Naidu or campaign for YS Jaganmohan Reddy, then it’ll definitely benefit TDP only. Realizing this, KCR and TRS are maintaining a low profile now. However, they’re doing their best from backdoors. For instance, TRS is influencing cinema stars and Andhra businessmen in Hyderabad to campaign for YSRCP,” added the analysts.

Moreover, it’s learned that TRS is also influencing several factories and business houses run by Andhraites in Hyderabad to order their employees to vote for YSRCP.

On the other hand, YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy is opening questioning that what’s wrong if KCR supports him. YSRCP is also not criticizing BJP in its poll campaigning. Meanwhile, TRS working president KT Rama Rao has been saying that TRS will win 16 MP seats in Telangana and YSRCP will also support them in Federal Front mission at the Centre. Considering all these equations, which party will win the hearts of Andhraites can be known only after elections. Now, the ball is in the court of Andhraites.

Chandrababu Naidu and KCR: Similar strategy, but, will the result be the same

Chandrababu Naidu pursues an electoral strategy that is similar to one employed by his Telangana counterpart KCR. This includes a reliance on welfare schemes like direct cash transfers to farmers, increasing the amount of pension etc. Besides, Chandrababu Naidu is triggering Andhra sentiment citing KCR’s unwarranted intervention in Andhra Pradesh politics. In fact, KCR during the Telangana Assembly elections projected Naidu as an ‘invader’. The electoral strategy of Naidu and KCR look alike. But, will the result be the same given the different political terrain and electoral dynamics in the two neighbouring Telugu states?

Every party and politician is now relying on welfare schemes. The BJP government launched poll eve Prime minister Kisan scheme and the Congress responded by promising a minimum income guarantee scheme for India’s 20 per cent poor describing it as the final assault on poverty. Thus, KCR or Naidu is no different. Welfare schemes constitute a lion’s share of budgets in both states. In the election year, KCR launched the ambitious Rythu Bandhu scheme that credited Rs.8000 per acre per year directly into the accounts of all farmers. The central government’s PM Kisan scheme is, in fact, a watered down version of the KCR’s Rythu Bandhu scheme. Notwithstanding the political criticism by the opposition parties, this scheme certainly helped KCR in winning the elections the second time.

Learning from the Telangana experience, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP supremo launched the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme. Similarly, pensions for the old aged and widows have been enhanced in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Besides, the Chandrababu Naidu government credited Rs. 10,000 for every DWACRA woman. Even when the state of Andhra Pradesh was passing through fiscal crisis owing to what they call arbitrary bifurcation of the state, Naidu government continued with a slew of welfare schemes keeping the elections in mind. Populist schemes despite the criticism of it by economists, still hold sway over the electorate who seek instant relief from the government.

Telangana chief minister benefitted from targeting Chandrababu Naidu during Telangana elections. In a tit for tat, Naidu is now repeating exactly the same strategy. Chandrababu Naidu’s main poll plank is the alleged nexus between YS Jagan and KCR. Naidu’s attempt to rouse Andhra pride is quite similar to the KCR strategy of triggering Telangana sentiment.

But despite the similarity in electoral strategies, can the result be the same? Despite the United opposition taking on TRS, KCR’s popularity was quite formidable compared to the Congress-led opposition combine. In fact, the Congress-TDP alliance was more of a liability than an asset. On the contrary, Chandrababu Naidu is locked in a fierce electoral battle in a highly polarised political terrain. Unlike in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh witnesses acute social division in the electorate. The caste consolidation is clear between the warring players. Political observers are also sceptical about the possible impact on sentimental politics in Andhra Pradesh which is an entrepreneurial society. The character of the societies in both the states is dissimilar giving scope for such scepticism. KCR is adept at Telangana native idiom that can forcefully fire the regional sentiment. Chandrababu Naidu also won the elections in 2014 by exploiting the bifurcation sentiment. Will it now work as Naidu embraces congress, the author of such arbitrary bifurcation. Naidu hopes that the special status narrative will legitimise his political U-turn. The opposition YSR Congress is focussing on exposing the changed political stance of Chandrababu Naidu. KCR has not faced any such situation except the fact that he inducted many who had little or no role to play in Telangana movement. But, KCR could defend this by calling it political realignment for the development of a new state.

KCR and Jagan are desperate for Modi’s victory?

1

The latest slogan of KCR-Jagan duo is for the voters’ blessings to give them all the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the twin Telugu states. Their idea is to convince the people about the possibility of the BJP not getting full majority on its own in the 2019 general election. In such a scenario, it is natural that KCR-Jagan will stand to play king-maker at the Centre if they have got greater number of MPs on their side.

Why do they want to have a strong say in the forthcoming Central government? Is it for getting a better deal for their respective states? Outwardly, KCR is saying that Telangana state will dictate terms to the Centre if they win all the 16 seats there while Jagan says he will get Special Status to AP if he wins all the 25 seats in the state. Jagan argues that they can bring greater pressure on the Centre if TRS, MIM and YCP jointly win all the 42 seats in twin states.

But are the voters going to believe their arguments so easily? Analysts say that both KCR and Jagan are very desperate for PM Modi’s victory once again. It is because they both are terrified of the Congress making a comeback. KCR knows full well that a future Congress government at the Centre will begin a witch hunt against him for he betrayed Sonia Gandhi before and after separate Telangana formation. Jagan embarrassed Sonia Gandhi ever since his father YSR’s death and eventually destroying Congress in AP by forming his own YCP party. Jagan will face toughest time if Congress really has a chance this time.

Harish Rao absence from Poll campaign

0

Hyderabad: T Harish Rao, former irrigation minister and holder of record majority in Assembly elections held in December 2018, was not included in the Telangana Cabinet. Subsequently, speculation was rife that TRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao along with him would contest in Lok Sabha elections. So that, Harish Rao would be helpful to KCR in making Federal Front a success at the Centre.

Contrary to all these expectations, KCR neither included Harish Rao in the Cabinet nor fielded in Lok Sabha elections. This has triggered a question ‘Where’s Harish Rao and what’s he doing now?.

Putting full stop to all the questions, TRS has announced its list of star campaigners including Harish Rao. Interestingly, Harish Rao’s name was not in the earlier list of star campaigners submitted to the Election Commission (EC). In a separate letter to the EC, TRS requested to include Harish Rao’s name in the list of star campaigners replacing Rajya Sabha MP Santhosh Kumar.

TRS’ list of star compaingers has 20 names. Harish Rao is campaigning for Kotha Prabhakar Reddy in Medak Lok Sabha constituency.

The list of 20 star campaigners of TRS include — TRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao, working president KT Rama Rao, ministers Mohamood Ali, Indrakaran Reddy, Etala Rajender, Koppula Eshwar, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, G Jagadish Reddy, Ch Malla Reddy, V Srinivas Goud, S Nirajana Reddy, V Prashanth Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav.

TRS senior leaders such as secretary general K Keshava Rao, TRS general secretaries — Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, R Shravan Kumar Reddy and T Ravindar Rao. TRS MLC Seri Subhash Reddy and MP Banda Prakash are among the list of star campaigners.

KCR influencing politics in T, AP by threatening everyone: Revanth Reddy

1

Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is using his political power and trying to win all the elections by threatening all the leaders and cadres from opposition parties, criticises Revanth Reddy. If no one dares to oppose such dirty politics, then those who threaten will rule like a dictator, he said.

Relying on the latest surveys, Telangana Congress working president Revanth Reddy exerted confidence that the grand old party will win 150 seats in the forthcoming general elections. Responding to remark of TRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao, who said casting vote for Congress will go waste, Revanth Reddy has questioned that if casting a vote for Congress, which is expected to win 150 seats, goes waste, then what will happen to vote casted for TRS, which is expecting to win 16 seats.

“Telangana voters are intelligent and they know who to vote for in the Lok Sabha elections. KCR is threatening all the leaders and cadres from opposition parties. By resorting to threatening and blackmailing practices, KCR is trying to sweep all the elections. This is what happened in Assembly, Sarpanches and MLC elections. Without thinking of winning or losing, I work for the welfare of people. The forthcoming general elections will decide who’ll become Prime Minister of India. So, this election is very crucial for the country and state as well. KCR is not a trustworthy leader. National leaders wouldn’t join him for his dream mission Federal Front,” remarked Reddy.

TRS Targets sweet 16, KCR strategy for Lok Sabha Polls

The TRS supremo and chief minister of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao is moving heaven and earth to win 16 of the 17 Loksabha seats in the state so as to play a key role in national politics by handing over the mantle of power in the state to his son and the heir apparent KT Rama Rao. The remaining one seat, the TRS is facilitating the victory of its ally MIM, whose chief, Asaduddin Owaisi is in the electoral fray to retain his Parliamentary seat. In fact, the TRS fielded a Hindu candidate in the name of a friendly contest to facilitate a division in the anti-MIM vote and help in the consolidation of the Muslim vote in favour of MIM. Thus by winning all the seats in the state, KCR wants to ensure that the transition of power in the state to his son will be smooth without any possible dissent, besides having an advantage in the national politics.

The immediate trends available on the possible outcome in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls is that the BJP led NDA may lose seats which it won in 2014, while the Congress-led UPA may not fully measure up to the expectation. Precisely here the non-Congress, non-BJP regional satraps play an important role in shaping the national agenda. KCR wants to exploit such a situation in Delhi with 16 seats in his kitty.

The unprecedented victory in the 2018 Assembly polls gives further boost to poll prospects of TRS in Lok Sabha polls too. In the assembly elections, the TRS got a lead in 14 out of 17 Lok Sabha segments. The Congress led prajakutami could establish only a marginal lead in Khammam and Mahabubabad seats. In the remaining 14 Lok Sabha segments, the TRS margin ranged from one to three lakh votes. Now, the prajakutami is in shambles thus benefitting the TRS.

The further weakening of the opposition due to Operation Aakarsh is expected to give further fillip to KCR’s hope of winning 16 out of the 17 seats. The substantial erosion of the Congress party due to demoralising defeat followed by crippling defections further emboldened the ruling TRS. The almost disappearance of TDP from the political map of Telangana, the gradual weakling of the Left, the rout of BJP that failed to win its sitting seats make the TRS unassailable.

KCR wishes to capitalise on this prevailing political and electoral contours of Telangana.

To legitimise his anti-Congress, anti-BJP political stand and dispel the impression of him being a secret ally of the saffron brigade, KCR forged the idea of Federal front of comprising the smaller and the regional parties. Yet the response is still largely non-committal as the regional parties are also unsure of the post poll arithmetic. These regional parties which are invited into the Federal Front are still not inclined to leave either BJP or the Congress. However, KCR is of a firm opinion that the attitude of these smaller and the regional parties would undergo a substantial change post-election.

In case if he fails to hoist Federal Front on the Indian political horizon, having 16 seats in his kitty helps him to call the shots irrespective of either NDA or UPA in a position to form a government with the support of regional parties.

Besides selling a national political narrative in the form of non-BJP, non-congress federal front and the talk of a national party, TRS is turning this election too into a sort of referendum around KCR. This strategy paid a rich dividend in the recently concluded Assembly elections as the opposition failed to project a leader of KCR’s stature. The TRS and its chief are spinning their electoral campaign around the benefits of Telangana if TRS wins 16 seats. The TRS is adept at electioneering around Telangana sentiment.

Meanwhile, KCR’s strategy of delinking Assembly and Lok Sabha polls by resorting to premature dissolution of the house has paid rich dividends. By doing so he ensured that the national political agenda will not cloud the state specific issues. Now, with the power at the state, it became easy for the TRS to conduct electioneering in the Lok Sabha elections.

Congress to slap showcause notices on those who defect

0

Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is threatening and blackmailing Congress MLAs and this is the prime reason why our MLAs are defecting, TPCC chief Uttamkumar Reddy voices concerns, while cautioning that party will issue showcause notices to those who leave the party. Why should people vote for TRS when KCR failed to get all the assurances mentioned in AP Reorganisation Act0-2014 for Telangana, questions Reddy.

“I question K Chandrashekhar Rao to tell the Telanganites whether he’s CM for only TRS MLAs or entire the state. Our Congress MLAs are under pressure and threat from TRS. That’s the reason, they’re joining TRS. Otherwise, the TRS government wouldn’t sanction any funds and take up any development activity in constituencies represented by Congress MLAs. Further Congress MLA role has been reduced to less than that of a village TRS worker. This situation in the constituency is putting Congress MLAs under pressure,” said Uttamkumar Reddy.

Highlighting the failures of the TRS government, Reddy said that so far assurances such as Kazipet railway coach factory, Bayyaram steel plant, tribal university, ITIR, etc, have not been fulfilled.

“Why should Telanganites vote for TRS. There’s no doubt that Rahul Gandhi will become Prime Minister of India and Congress party will implement reservations for tribals and Muslims on population ratio. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will tour Telangana and spearhead the Lok Sabha election campaign. Congress will bag majority seats of 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana,” maintained Reddy.

KCR can’t influence national politics: Vijayashanthi

0

Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is on Target-16 in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, but how can he make false promises such as garnering 160 MPs at the Centre to get projects and funding for the Telangana, questions, observes former MP Vijayashanthi.

“Is it possible to buy MPs the way KCR is managing in Telangana? It’s not that easy as buying MLAs. In case TRS makes a clean sweep in Telangana Lok Sabha elections, there’s no guarantee that KCR can mobilise support of 160 MPs. KCR is successfully manipulating things in the home state, but he can’t do so in national politics,” maintained Vijayashanthi.

Recalling KCR’s failure to generate support from regional parties to his mission ‘Federal Front,’ Vijayashanti said that KCR couldn’t get even one regional party support.

“Yes, in one way, KCR can get support of 160 MPs. I’ll tell you how it’s possible. All the MP seats of BJP, TRS and YSRCP put together, after elections, might give KCR’s magical figure of 160,” predicts Vijayashanthi.

The actor-turned politician has joined Congress party and didn’t contest in Assembly elections held in December 2018. Vijayashanthi is a star campaigner for Congress party. Earlier, Vijayashanthi won as Medak MP on TRS ticket.

Why KCR changing campaign strategy?

1

Hyderabad: Unlike his previous speeches, TRS supremo and Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has changed his poll campaign strategy and for the first time he played Hindu card. This is totally against KCR’s style of functioning as he always projected himself and his party as secular and Telangana statehood with national patriotism, observed a senior political analyst. May be this is to check BJP vote bank after the recent surgical strikes on Pakistan, he opined.

With an objective of clean sweep in Lok Sabha elections in Telangana by bagging 17 MP seats including one Hyderabad seat by AIMIM, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is targetting BJP and Congress. In his recent public meeting at Karimnagar, KCR criticised BJP as it’s acting as a sole representative of Hinduism, while asserting that there’re no Pakka Hindu than himself. KCR further claimed that no one in the country performed ‘Havans’ than him.

“Playing this Hindu card is nothing, but checking BJP from gaining vote bank in Telangana after surgical strikes on Pakistan. The positive image for BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the country is gaining. Observing this, KCR might have said he’s the Pakka Hindu. On the other side, KCR is also attacking Congress, while highlighting that this grand-old party can’t get over 120 seats. If TRS wins 16 MP seats in Telangana, KCR assures mobilising support of 160 MPs at the Centre. By saying so, KCR is assuring Telangana voters to cast their votes for TRS in Lok Sabha polls, while diluting role of BJP and Congress,” explains the analyst.
