Now govt health workers attacked in Nizamabad

0

Government health workers and volunteers were attacked by a violent mob in Nizamabad neighbourhood on Thursday. Trouble began when the health workers and volunteers visited the area to screen residents for signs of novel coronavirus infection on some of the residents who believed to have attended the large religious congregation in Markaz Masjid in South Delhi’s Nizamuddin. Refusing to be tested for signs of corona virus, a violent mob of at least 60-100 people started chasing the health workers and volunteers by pelting stones.

The Telangana government had recently appealed to the people to voluntarily disclose if they attended the Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin between March 13-March 15 and give their blood samples to the government hospitals to check for corona virus.

The video footage broadcast by the mainstream TV channels on Thursday showed the visuals of some healthcare workers dressed in light blue PPE (personal protective equipment) suits being chased by the mob by pelting stones.

As the minute-long video plays out, the small group of locals soon turned into a mob of around 60-100 violent residents shouting abuses, throwing stones and chasing them down the narrow lane.

More than 60 people from Nizamabad district had attended the religious congregation Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin. At least, six people from Telangana who attended the religious congregation at Markaz in South Delhi’s Nizamuddin from March 13-15 succumbed after they contracted coronavirus. Two died in Gandhi Hospital while one each died in Apollo Hospital, Global Hospital, Nizamabad and Gadwal.

While appealing to the people to disclose if they attended the religious gathering in Nizamuddin, the Telangana CMO confirmed that six people who died had attended the congregation.

In a complete disregard to the law of the land and in complete defiance of the Telangana government’s directive to the people to voluntarily come for medical tests, the violent mob attacked the government health workers and volunteers with impunity right in front of the media.

Attacks on medical personnel and healthcare workers have worsened over the past few days. On Wednesday, doctors at Hyderabad’s Gandhi Hospital were attacked after a patient infected with the novel coronavirus died. Following the death, the brother of the deceased along with hundreds of relatives, friends and family members ransacked the hospital and roughed up some doctors and paramedical staff.

Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar rushed to the hospital along with his colleagues. The doctors at the Hyderabad have claimed protection from the government and an assurance from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. They have also written to the police.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali should explain what action the government will initiate against such deplorable and dastardly attacks against the health workers and volunteers who were just supporting the government’s efforts to contain and tackle the spread of corona virus so that millions of people live to see tomorrow.

0

The Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has revised poll timing for Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency thanks to the lengthy list of 185 contesting candidates. According to the revised timing, the polling at 1,788 polling stations in Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency will be held from 8 am till 6 pm on April 11, while normal timing of 7-5 will continue in the remaining polling stations across Telangana. However, polling will be from 7 am till 4 pm at 17 Maoist –affected areas at select polling stations in 13 Assembly segments.

Telangana CEO Rajat Kumar said that decision to revise polling time has been taken after the mock polling. Generally, mock polling would be completed in one hour, but it took extra time as the lengthy list of 185 candidates in the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, said Rajat Kumar.

“So, extra time is given to complete the process. The revising timing at 1,788 polling stations in Nizamabad MP poll will be from 8 am till 6 pm,” further added Rajat Kumar.

In addition to politicians, farmers of turmeric and jowar in large numbers filed nominations for Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat in protest against non-implementation of minimum support price (MSP). Several farmers have demanded the postponement of the elections for Nizamabad seat. However, the Chief Election Commission of India (ECI) didn’t agree to the request and has decided to go ahead with election schedule on April 11.

Sitting MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, is contesting in Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency.

Why Nizamabad farmers seek postponement of MP election?

0

Farmers of turmeric and jowar in Nizamabad have requested the Election Commission (EC) to postpone Lok Sabha election by another 10 days as against the scheduled date of April 11. Further, farmers are demanding for a ballot paper instead of EVM.

Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency is witnessing highest number of MP candidates in the fray. Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of TRS supremo and Telangana chief minister k Chandrashekhar Rao, is sitting MP from Nizamabad constituency.

In the memorandum submitted to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the farmers said: “It’s not justified that candidates of main political parties have been listed in the top of the poll ballot list. We request the EC to list the contesting candidates in alphabetic order. Moreover, so far the minimum awareness programme was not conducted for 185 candidates in the fray. The local election official is not coordinating with independent candidates.”

However, central election commission deputy commissioner Umesh Sinha has clarified that postponement of election is not possible and Lok Sabha polls in Telangana will be held as per the schedule.

The EC has kept poll equipment ready for Lok Sabha elections in Telangana. About 25,000 ballot units, 2,000 control units and 2,000 VVPATs have been earmarked for Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, which spans over two districts Nizamabad and Jagtial. Nizamabad district has 1,272 polling stations and 516 polling stations in Jagtial district.

0

Contenders in Nizamabad Rural assembly segment may face a tough fight as there would be a triangular competition. The constituency was called Dichpally earlier and is replaced with ‘Nizamabad Rural’ during 2009 reorganisation of assembly segment consisting of Jakranpally, Dichpally, Dharpally and Sirikonda mandals. About 1.9 lakh voters are existed here of which majority are from Kapu, SC, ST and Mudiraj community. These communities can decide the fate of the candidates.

While congress cadre is swinging with the joining of MLC Mr. Bhupathi Reddy from TRS, who took oath for defeating TRS candidate Dr. Bajireddy Govardhan, the TRS has hopes on its welfare schemes that benefited for the said communities. Though Congress and BJP are yet to announce its candidates, Dr. Bhupathi Reddy and BJP leader Mr. Anand Reddy have begun campaign.

Dr. Bhupathi Reddy started campaign from Malkapur with his sentiment and he has blessings of Senior Leader D.Srinivas who recently left TRS and about to join congress. Mr. Reddy has own strength as he took active part during Telangana Movement and the Congress party has traditional vote bank in rural areas of the segment.

Mr. Anand Reddy from BJP who lost the previous election and stood in 3rd place with 25% of votes is confidence this time as he believes that the voters are seeking an alternative to the ruling party TRS and the opposition party Congress. Though he lost his last election, he has been continuing keeping in touch with the voters and frequently raising his voice against the failures and getting success in passing the welfare schemes by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sources says that all the three leaders have vote bank in the majority of voters from the said communities and experts are saying that there must be a tough fight between the three leaders and expecting the majority for the winning candidate may be in between 1,000 and 3,000.

‘Triangle’ groups in Nizamabad politics

0

Triangle groups have been formed in major political parties including TRS, Congress and BJP in Nizamabad and all the groups are targeting party tickets for upcoming elections.

Politics in Nizamabad Urban assembly segment, which born in 2009 delimitation of constituencies, has become hot topic with huge competition between leaders from same party. This assembly segment was a stronghold to Congress party but, it lost it in 2014 elections and the voters elected TRS. While Ganesh Gupta, who defeated D.Srinivas (then Congress leader and joined in TRS later), is sitting MLA from this segment and expecting party ticket for 2019 elections, D. Srinivas has been preparing grounds for introducing his son Sanjay. After the entry of D. Srinivas in TRS, equations in the politics of Nizamabad Urban have been changing day-by-day. The TRS workers split into two groups – DS Group and Ganesh Gupta group. As Sanjay has already started attracting voters with social service like ‘Free Marriages’ for his community (Munnuru Kapu) and health camps across the assembly segment, Ganesh Gupta went into defence and planning to launch Padayatras to reach voters. Besides these two leaders, Mr. Bajireddy Govardhan Reddy who is sitting MLA of Nizamabad Rural also desires in contesting from Urban in 2019.

In congress, three key leaders are eying on Nizamabad Urban ticket. While MLC Akula Lalitha desires to contest from here, leaders of Pradesh Congress Committee Ratnakar and Mahesh Kumar Goud have been visiting high command for tickets in upcoming elections. Congress has hopes on the ticket and wanting getting benefits with the group-war in TRS.

Even in BJP, there is triangle competition for Nizamabad Urban. The Ex-MLA Yendala Laxminarayana, who lost his seat in last elections, is seeking party ticket in 2019 general elections. Similarly, Mr. Baswa Laxminarayana who quit congress and joined BJP desires to contest from here. Suryanarayana, who lost election in 2014, is also seeking ticket from high command for 2019 elections.

“TRS govt is sleeping like Kumbhakarna”

0

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir advised the TRS government to wake up from it Kumbhakarna slumber and see how farmers were dying in crisis. Accompanied by Congress cell Kisan Cell president M Kodanda Reddy, Shabbir came down heavily on the government stating that it had plenty of money to purchase vehicles for various departments and luxury buses to CM, but had no funds to provide relief to farmers who were dying in terrible distress.

“While the government gave preference to purchase of new vehicles worth over Rs. 500 Crore for various departments, including Rs. 28 crore to upgrade Chief Minsiter K Chandrashekar Rao’s convoy, it did not provide any relief to the farmers.,” they said.

He reminded how TRS government repeatedly denied the national Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) figure of 1127 suicides cases of farmers. Finally, after continuous denials, the Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy admitted that 409 suicides took place in Telangana and extended assistance to only 166 farmers, they said. Shabbir Ali compared the TRS Government to “Kumbhakarna” which woke up from its slumber of 15-months only after 1500 farmers committed suicide.

Citing his visit to the family of Limbaiah in Ramareddy village of Nizamabad he said he visited his family as he was a farmer and committed suicide. ” We did not give any importance to the fact that Lingaiah’s sister was a MPTC member of TRS,” he said.
