Shankar’s words inspiration to work harder: Rajamouli

0

Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli on Monday said filmmaker S. Shankar’s words of praise for his film “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”, which has already turned out a blockbuster, will inspire him to work harder.

Shankar on Sunday described “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” as “pride of Indian cinema”. He added that he was awestruck by its “grandness, beauty and music”.

In response to Shankar’s tweet, Rajamouli tweeted: “Thank you sir. Your words are an inspiration to work even harder. Our team is ecstatic and jubilant.”

The first part, “Baahubali: The Beginning”, released in July 2015 and minted over Rs 600 crore at the box office. “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” was expected to come out in 2016.

However, the makers took time and released the film on April 28 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

With an estimated earnings of over Rs 400 crore from first day across four languages, the second part in the “Baahubali” franchise is said to have registered the biggest opening for an Indian film.

Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan, the film is produced by Arka Media Works.

Early morning shows of ‘Baahubali 2’ cancelled in TN

Early morning shows of S.S Rajamouli’s magnum opus “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” were cancelled on Friday due to financial issues in Tamil Nadu, industry sources said.

“Tamil Nadu distributor K Productions owes Rs 15 crore to Arka Mediworks, the makers of ‘Baahubali 2’. Arka is yet to issue KDM for the release of Telugu and Tamil versions of the film in the state,” a source told IANS.

A theatre owner, on the condition of anonymity, said the issue is likely to be settled by the afternoon.

“Talks are being currently held to settle the deficit. Shows are likely to open from noon,” the theatre owner said.

The Hindi version, however, has released in Tamil Nadu.

“The Hindi version didn’t have any issues because it’s being released nationwide by Anil Thadani,” the source added.

Meanwhile, “Baahubali 2” has released in other parts of the country and has been received well.

The film stars Rana Daggubati, Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan.

‘Baahubali 2’: Hype by makers, expectations by fans touch new highs

0

Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? An enigma that has been on the mind of every Indian since the last 21 months, will finally get unveiled on Friday with the release of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”. If trade pundits and films experts are to be believed, filmmaker S.S. Rajamoulis magnum opus will set new benchmarks in Indian cinema.

Released in July 2015, ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ — the first film in the epic fantasy franchise — raked in over Rs 600 crore at the box office while leaving fans amazed with its grandiose sets, unprecedented action sequences and astounding storyline. Thus, fans across the world keenly await “Baahubali 2”, which will release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam in over 6500 screens across India.

The film features Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati and Tamannaah in the lead.

“I have sky high expectations from ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ and I believe it’s going to make records. Expectations from first film were not that big. Despite that‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ worked so well. The way it performed is the reason why expectations are so huge from the second part,” Mumbai-based distributor Rajesh Thadani told IANS.

“This film has the potential to create new benchmarks in cinema. There have been films in the past which have had big hype, but ‘Baahubali’ is an exception. It will definitely open doors for the southern industry in other regions,” Thadani added.

Trade expert Taran Adarsh said “Baahubali 2” will get a “hurricane” at the box office, which has not witnessed huge footfalls for the last few weeks now.

“The weather may be hot and humid, but the box office is ice-cold… Await ‘Baahubali 2′ to reactivate film business… Expecting a hurricane at the box office,” Adarsh tweeted last week.

In north India, Delhi-based distributor Joginder Mahajan is expecting a “miracle” with the film.

“Advance booking for the film is doing great. There are discussions going on between exhibitors and distributors regarding the profits in north India. The hype of the film is really huge amongst the masses. It might break all the records at the box office,” Mahajan told IANS.

Ashish Saksena, COO-Cinemas, BookMyShow said that they are witnessing an “unprecedented advance booking” for “Baahubali 2”.

“We have already sold over one million tickets across languages, even when the bookings have been live for just over a day. Though the film is largely perceived to be loved by South Indian audience, the response from Hindi speaking markets has been highly encouraging as well,” Saksena told IANS.

In South, “Baahubali 2” will release in around 650 screens in Tamil Nadu. According to trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai, it’s the biggest release for a film in the state.

“Even Rajinikanth’s ‘Enthiran’ and ‘Kabali’ released in just over 500 screens. The craze for ‘Baahubali’ is phenomenal and unprecedented. The buzz is bigger than it has ever been for a big Tamil film. Tickets are sold out everywhere,” Pillai told IANS.

Unlike other states, where the ticket prices have been hiked in huge numbers, in Tamil Nadu, the film’s ticket is being sold at the nominal price of Rs 120 due to the price cap by the government.

Pillai added that the film’s release timing is perfect.

“It’s the summer vacation for kids. The film is going to have a dream run for first four days as May 1 (Labour Day) happens to be holiday. It’s a very well planned release and I have been told the team locked the release date nearly eight months ago,” he said.

In Kerala, meanwhile, Global United Media is releasing the film in over 300 screens.

“This is the biggest release ever for a non-Malayalam film. This is the kind of film which doesn’t get made every day. Since the release of ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, the total number of theatres in Kerala has increased which has automatically paved the way for a wider release for the second part.

“The film is going to set new benchmarks for Indian cinema,” Prem Menon, Managing Director, Global United Media, told IANS.

The buzz around the film’s release is even higher in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, say experts.

So, one can say that the stage is perfectly set for “Baahubali 2” to prove is mettle and set new records in Indian cinema.

Prabhas delighted with Rajamouli’s Special Gift

Young Rebelstar Prabhas dedicated five years for the film Baahubali and it was SS Rajamouli’s passion for cinema which drove the actor towards. Prabhas and Rajamouli have been exchanging praises on each other and Rajamouli is said to have surprised the actor with a special gift.

Rajamouli gifted the armour which the royal king Baahubali wore in the film to Prabhas. This is completely for the effort the actor pumped in for the movie informed Rajamouli. The ace director revealed that the actor was in even before he narrated the draft. Prabhas went through a massive physical transformation which cannot be explained in words revealed Rajamouli. Between massive expectations, Baahubai: The Conclusion is all set for April 28th release. Prahas, Anushka, Rana Daggubati and Tamannaah are the lead actors.

‘Baahubali’ has given Indian filmmakers license to go big: Rana Daggubati

Actor Rana Daggubati, who awaits the release of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”, believes the success of S.S. Rajamoulis “Baahubali” as a franchise has given Indian filmmakers the faith and confidence to go big.

“I think ‘Baahubali’ has proved it that when you’re making a film for the entire nation, it is bigger than any film made in one language. You could be a filmmaker sitting in Madurai and if you have a great superhero film to make, you have the faith and confidence to make your film because there’s a country of audience to watch it,” Rana told IANS.

Does he feel there is sudden urge to make bigger films, especially after the announcement of Mohanlal-starrer multilingual film “The Mahabharata”, to be made on a budget of Rs 1000 crore?

“I think it is amazing filmmakers have started to think big. ‘Baahubali’ has given them the license to go big,” he said.

In “Baahubali” franchise, Rana plays a fictional character Bhallaladeva, who locks horns over an ancient kingdom with his brother Amarendra Baahubali, played by Prabhas.

Asked if he finds surprising that a negative character vis-à-vis all the positive ones he has played so far has won him nation-wide recognition, he said: “It’s a Rs 450 crore war film and it will give you far greater visibility.”

“It is the biggest film in the country and even if I played any other character, it would have given me the same visibility. This is franchise cinema which is far bigger than any film that I have been part of so far,” he explained.

Rana, known for being part of films such as “Leader”, “Dum Maaro Dum” and “Department”, says he has always been on the lookout for projects that transcended regional boundaries.

“‘Baahubali’ helped me explore new avenues across borders. It has given us so much strength that even while sitting in Hyderabad, we could think of making a huge franchise-based film that will be lapped up by the entire nation. It has taught me to take content to wherever I want,” he said, adding the experience of working on the country’s biggest film helped him to “understand and portray a character better”.

“It is because of the experience of working with finer actors and a highly talented director. Everything I have learnt from both the parts of the film will reflect on whatever I choose to do next,” he said.

“Baahubali: The Beginning” had a phenomenal run at the box office. It ended up as one of the biggest grossers of Indian cinema.

Is there a sense of nervousness ahead of the release of “Baahubali 2”, considering part one was a huge hit?

“It is the same story audiences are going to watch after two years. It’s the continuation of what happened at the end of first part. When we were making part one, we didn’t realise how big it will become and where it will take us,” Rana said.

“The fact that it has become a brand and has been accepted even internationally, gives you so much more strength to make a greater part two. Ultimately, everything that we have made in this film is bigger than the first part,” he added.

Talking about “Baahubali 2”, Rana said things got easier while working on this project.

“When we were doing the first part, it was our first attempt in the war genre and everything was new to us. None of us even knew how everything that we are shooting will look in the end with visual effects. There were challenges every single day and it was a struggle to address them,” Rana said.

“Though part two was a physically taxing film in every which way, what we did here was we didn’t make the same mistakes we made in part one. We had bigger budget to shoot, thanks to the success of first part,” he said.

“Baahubali 2…”, which also stars Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan, is slated for worldwide release on Friday.

Baahubali 2 Censored: Things under Wraps

0

SS Rajamouli is quite careful about his next outing Baahubali: The Conclusion. Without hinting much, the team is keen on maintaining the curiosity among the audience. The post-production formalities of the film have been wrapped up recently and the movie cleared the censor scrutiny last night. With the social media as platform, all the filmmakers and production houses have been updating about their films. However Rajamouli and his team preferred to keep up the censor updates under wraps.

Baahubali: The Conclusion cleared all the censor formalities and it has been awarded U/A certificate. The runtime of the film has been locked as 167 minutes and the film has been passed without any cuts. With the censor scrutiny members watching the film, the makers are taking special care so that nothing will be leaked out from the special screening. With the most discussed topic ‘Why did Katappa kill Baahubali’ raising the bars all over, the censor board members have been requested not to discuss about the updates.

Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka and Tamannaah are the lead actors and Arka Media Works bankrolled the project.

More Confident About Baahubali 2 Than Baahubali: SS Rajamouli

Baahubali broke the language barrier to become a pan-Indian hit in 2015 but director S S Rajamouli says he was not as sure-footed about the first part as he is for the upcoming sequel Baahubali: The Conclusion. The first movie ended on a cliffhanger, leaving the audience with the question- ‘Why did Katappa kill Baahubali?’, which became a catch-phrase and sustained interested in the sequel.

“We were a little nervous during the first part but for this one we are quite confident because there has been a big fan-base which has been following it since the past two years. During this time, none of them lost interest in the film and it kept on going,” Rajamouli says. “Everyone wants to know the answer to the question,

‘WKKP’ (Why Did Katappa Kill Baahubali). We are quite upbeat about it,” he told reporters here last evening.

The two-part epic-fantasy stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah and Anushka Shetty in lead roles. Rajamouli says it was wonderful of South Indian star Prabhas to dedicate himself fully for years to Baahubali despite being a top hero of the industry. “The whole film ‘Baahubali’ was possible because of this man (Prabhas) who being a top hero in south gave three and a half years for the film. I don’t think we could’ve done it (the film) without him,” he says.

The filmmaker, however, says the franchise is so huge that no person, including himself, can be bigger than the project. “I think whether the director or producer or any other professional involved in it, we are all being carried on a big ship called Baahubali,” he says.

“‘Baahubali’ is such a big thing, we being the people who worked on it, are getting the attention. I don’t think I am a bigger person than the project,” Rajamouli says. He was speaking at the IMAX poster launch of Baahubali: The Conclusion, which is scheduled to release on April 28.

Tamannaah to play deaf, mute in new film

0

Actress Tamannaah Bhatia, who is all geared up for the release of her upcoming magnum-opus “Baahubali 2”, reveled that her next is with Vashu Bhagnani where she plays a deaf and dumb’s character.

“‘Baahubali’ helped me to realise that people want me to do different characters like now I have shot for a film in which I play a deaf and mute girl, gone completely sans make-up. It is a Hindi film produced by Vashu Bhagnani sir,” Tamannaah said during an interview on Thursday.

“I am also collaborating with Prabhu (Prabhudeva) sir again, but in a completely different framework. So, it would be very interesting for audience, who have seen us before, to watch us in completely different characters and framework,” added Tamannaah who was last seen with Prabhudeva and Sonu Sood in “Tutak Tutak Tutiya”.

Talking about the success of “Baahubali”, Tamannaah proudly said: “We have always looked upon Hollywood superheroes like Super-Man and Spider-man but ‘Baahubali’ is our own Indian Superhero and the connection people have made with this franchise is unprecedented.”

Asked about the re-release of the first part into theatres, she said: “It’s an honour for any actor to say that their movie is re-released after two years. I am happy that people are supporting the format of having the movie in two parts and that’s what makes it interesting. This will encourage other movie makers to make films in parts.”

While all other characters remain the same, Anushka Shetty will be seen in a new avatar in this movie. Asked about her experience of working with Anushka, Tamannaah said: “I have known her since the beginning of my career. She is the one who helped me in the beginning of my career. I wanted a costume designer and she helped me with it. She has actually enjoyed the five most peak years of her career in this film, which is a lot for a mainstream actress like her.”

What was the most interesting part in shooting the biggest blockbuster of Indian cinema? Tamannaah said: “I did a fullfledged action in a movie for the first time in my career. I had a lot of fear of height but ‘Baahubali’ has helped me overcome it.”

“Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion” that will finally answer the most awaited answer as to Why Kattapa Killed Baahubali will hit the screens on April 28.

The film is directed by S.S. Rajmouli with Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishnan, Nassar and Satyaraj in pivotal roles.

‘Baahubali’ was possible because of Prabhas, says Rajamouli

Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli says a magnum opus like the two-part “Baahubali” could be possible thanks to an actor like Prabhas, who has dedicated so much time to the project.

Rajamouli was at an event here for the IMAX poster launch of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” on Wednesday.

Praising Prabhas, Rajamouli said: “The whole film ‘Baahubali’ was possible because of Prabhas, who being a lead actor in the south film industry, believed in this project and gave three and half years of his life to the film. I don’t think anybody can get so much involved in the project with that kind of passion, time and commitment.”

“I think whether director or producer or any other professional involved in it, we are all being carried on a big ship called ‘Baahubali’. ‘Baahubali’ is the ultimate product and we are the people who worked on it, so I don’t think I am a bigger person than the project,” added Rajamouli when asked about how a filmmaker often gets less attention compared to his film.

Speaking about the IMAX experience, he said: “It was 15 years ago when I first saw a film in IMAX format. In our childhood, we used to see film on 70mm screens and then suddenly we got this larger than life experience in IMAX, through which we literally felt like being in that space and time itself.

“So the first image I saw, and I decided to make my films in IMAX format. And today, when the dream has got fulfilled, it’s a quality moment for me.”

“Baahubali 2” has been digitally remastered in the IMAX format.

Its story lent itself to the format, Rajamouli said, adding: “People need to see it on bigger screens with wider sound to experience what we intended to see.”

“We have big theatres now but we still need more number of theatres to take the audience there. It’s a business model now to release the film in maximum number of theatres to get maximum viewership. And for a film like ‘Baahubali’, where people are anticipating so much about the movie that trailer of the film has crossed 100 million views is on par with any Hollywood film.

“So, it makes all sense to release the film at maximum number of theatres.”

The movie also features Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan in pivotal roles.

Bahubali Review-A Modern visual extravaganza of an Old tale

The original storyline of “Bahubali” must have been exactly like it was illustrated in the Amar Chitra Katha comic by the same title (whose influence was always acknowledged by maker SS Rajamouli) – two brothers Bahubali and Bhalla born to the same king vie for the Mahishmati kingdom, the king and the queen decide to have a decathlon of disciplines in which they compete with each other and the winner is one who is the mightier, nobler, kinder and the most-skilled of the two. [pullquote position=”right”]The much-awaited “Bahubali” takes us back in time to an enchanted world of a man whose destiny drives him from wilderness to take charge of a lost kingdom. Despite shortcomings, Rajamouli weaves a visual extravaganza that will make Indian film industry proud.[/pullquote]Eventually, Bahubali wins but he becomes spiritual and renounces the kingdom in favour of the same sibling who rivalled him since childhood. This part, the spiritual part could well be the second part (“Bahubali: The Conclusion”). But the part of the rivalry between the two brothers is inter-twined with a bizarre twist of a dual role by Prabhas who plays both the legendary Bahubali – competes with Bhalla Deva (Rana Daggubati) – as well as the younger Bahubali. The story gets padded to make a neat Chandamama tale of a son abandoned by a queen mother on the ravages of an empire, rescued by a tribal village living on the edge of its waterfall.

Young  Prabhas  grows up in a hamlet ending on the riverside of a waterfall raised by Rohini. He grows up true to his name as a mighty and valiant man who can lift boulders, uproot trees and carry weighty Shiv Ling easily.[pullquote position=”left”]Prabhas looks thoroughly convincing in his title role – he has the best metrosexual looks in the South after Hrithik Roshan and makes the most of his body frame with an occasional swagger and twitch in the face to give back mouthfuls. Rana Daggubati, finally gets a role that suits his Herculean body-frame and the mischievous twinkle in his eyes [/pullquote]His destiny, she wishes is more towards Godly worship but it takes a turn towards romance with a Xena-like warrior Tamannah and eventually in the direction in which Tamannah takes – to the kingdom of Mahishmati ruled by the wicked king Bhallala Deva (Rana) in order to liberate Deva Sena (Anushka) from his clutches. Will Bahubali Jr. rescue Deva Sena, challenge Bhalla and find who his real father is and how he perished? That forms the second half.

What makes “Bahubali” tick is the extra-ordinary visual feast and the detailed presentation of the main motifs of the story. While the first half has dazzling scenic grandeur in the forestry filled with lavish waterfalls and snow-capped valleys, the kingdom of Mahishmati towards the end of the first half and the whole of the second half takes the cake for extravagant settings although the graphics tell what is real and what is surreal. Like an Amish Tripathi work of mythological fiction, Rajamouli depicts the raw energy, swashbuckle and chivalry about the men and women who fight for a cause or a kingdom’s army and their paraphernalia of steel body-shields, helmets, bows, quivers and arrows, spears, boomerang balls hoisted on adjustable metal rods, maces, helicopter chariot-cars, the whole array of infantry and artillery formations and those gun-shot spherical balls which unnerve the opposing armies. We may have seen many of these in Hollywood films but the thrills of watching them again in a kingdom not far from our native settings definitely make the film a worthy watch. In the entire duration of 159 minutes, a few action sequences stand out in the first and second half like Tamannah’s rescue act by Bahubali Jr  and the sequence of Bhalla’s men chasing Bahubali post-erection of Bhalla’s statue.[pullquote position=”right”]What makes “Bahubali” tick is the extra-ordinary visual feast and the detailed presentation of the main motifs of the story[/pullquote]But the one that steals the show and undoubtedly gets the hat-tip from the audience is the magnificent detail and cinematography of Senthil that went into the battle ground  action that comes in the climax of the film. Stretching well beyond 35 minutes, this sequence will be remembered forever as Rajamouli’s finest output in building pace and emotion in a war scenario – something that will be benchmarked for Indian films hereafter and revered until Rajamouli himself decides to outdo himself whenever he is ready with a retelling of  Mahabharat-Kurukshetra (his dream project). Most films which had even average story redeem themselves in one or two action sequences – but Rajamouli aced it up well on this count with  eye-popping imagery and action by Peter Heins on this battle sequence where a grotesque-looking one-eyed King Prabhakar is outwitted and eventually outplayed by the Trisul formation of Bahubali, Bhalla and Satyaraj. I feel kids who soak up on Hollywood action movies of the BCE era will flock to see this sequence – it is that gripping and majestic. There are at least four or five mini-action sequences which sizzle.

Action forms the nub of the film and one sees Rajamouli revel in this art – his main flaw is the fleeting romance between Prabhas and Tamannah. It is cute but not cute enough to embellish a serious tale like this which doesn’t have too many twists and more or less relies on flashback to render variety to the plot. Because Anushka’s meatier role is trapped in flashback which may be unveiled in the sequel, the romance part could have got beefed up in the second half, all we see is one rocking item song of three new “bad” girls from Bollywood. Comedy is seriously amiss but this has never been Rajamouli’s forte nor the mainstay in his films. Performances-wise and Characterisation-wise, Prabhas looks thoroughly convincing in his title role – he has the best metro sexual looks in the South after Hrithik Roshan and makes the most of his body frame with an occasional swagger and twitch in the face to give back mouthfuls – one scene rewinds you to “Chhatrapathi” but overall Prabhas delivers with a serene and supra-confident look throughout – if only his dialogue delivery improves he will outrun everybody else. A tanned Tamannah is the real surprise packet in the film – she is taut, lissome and makes the right moves to pursue her mission in the role as well as entrance Prabhas. The opening song of “Dheevara” in which she first appears makes the audience drool over her demure looks. She shows that glamour with action is the right prescription for her to go places.  Rana Daggubati, finally gets a role that suits his Herculean body-frame and the mischievous twinkle in his eyes – he gets a rare opportunity to gather some sunshine eluding him so far – by sparring with Prabhas in a never-before plot. He speaks the best Telugu in the film industry and if he can select roles like this instead of wasting his time in Bollywood as an also-ran, he can resurrect his fortunes. It doesn’t matter whether you are a hero or a villain – screen presence is all that matters and he has plenty of it, as proved in this film. Screen presence is also there for two other noteworthy characters in the film with standout performances – one is Ramya  Krishna as Sivagami, the queen mother. She is impressive and gives a dignified performance without diluting the tempo throughout. Her dialogues also uplift the main character of Bahubali in revving up heroism and bravery. Satyaraj gets the most interesting and convincing role in the story – as a slave-general who stands like a pillar of the Mahishmati Kingdom – his costumes and his transition into a trusted lieutenant adds weight and respect for his role. That one sequence of sword-fighting with a “Cameo-performing” Sudeep (“Eega” fame) is a real paisa-vasool. Satyaraj’s characterization is similar to another famous Amar Chitra Katha comic which depicts the legendary fall and rise of one of the most famous slave kings of the Delhi Sultanate – Balban. Sudeep, as an Arab trader makes a style statement even in a five-minute cameo. Nazar is forgettable. Prabhakar, as the gory and barbarian king who slugs it out in the climax battle gets a great role that will go down well with the masses – those bits of Turkish and Arabic tongue that he lashes out on the battle-field are the only comi-villain moments of the film. Anushka doesn’t have a role in the film except to show as a damsel in distress and in chains. Her best role is yet to come and those who loved the teaser of her role as Deva Sena will have to  wait longer till 2016.

Technically, the film is brilliant in all aspects except in portions where the cardboard stills of the kingdom were not shown as authentic as the SFX. Editing lags a bit. MM Keeravani’s songs looked better on-screen than the soundtrack because of some good effects. The most melodious track “Pacha Bottesinaa..” is cut short after the first line of lyrics – this is quite typical of Rajamouli who squeezes in more action than the moments that can cascade some romance and relief. He has edited out the best song of “Eega” (“Are Are Are Aree..”) likewise. [pullquote position=”left”]Bahubali is a rare treat on an Indian Canvass that made a once-in-a-generation noise and unlike other potboilers of recent past which bombed because of disparity between hype and expectations, this one has a better consistency check and good quality action-oriented entertainment. This needs to be celebrated and applauded despite its shortcomings.[/pullquote]But where Keeravani outclasses himself is in the BGM –he uses the sounds of the characters to cloud out his music sometimes, at other times, he uses bare silence to make the scene stand out. He is easily the most under-rated music composers of Indian Cinema – having got three different screen names in Tollywood (as MM Keeravani), Kollywood (Marakatamani) and Bollywood (MM Kreem). Only Rajamouli and few others like K Raghavendra Rao have used this home-grown talent called Keeravani well. The BGM for the film definitely makes the film more sonorous to watch. Senthil’s cinematography is definitely breath-taking – it uses more wide-canvass lens to make each frame pop out on-screen.

What mars the film, apart from lack of comedy and romance in full swing is the story which is uni-layered and the abrupt ending after the battle scene. Even if Rajamouli has chopped off some action sequences in the first half, the output would have delivered a knock-out punch had he concentrated on some emotions that failed to evoke – like the mother-son sentiment between Ramyakrishna and Prabhas, or the epochal moment of coronation or the pathos of Anushka or the sibling rivalry between Rana and Prabhas. But in all fairness, the output is consistent with Rajamouli’s talents and promise, it doesn’t disappoint and definitely deserves a watch once.  In Hollywood films made on the Superheroes like Batman, Spiderman and Superman are never rated but get a universal applause, even if they are under-rated. In my view, “Bahubali – the Beginning” is one such film  – it is rated for the part of the critical analysis but the rating doesn’t have to influence your decision to watch just like the Superhero films. You will not be disappointed with it. This is a rare treat on an Indian Canvass that made a once-in-a-generation noise and unlike other potboilers of recent past which bombed because of disparity between hype and expectations, this one has a better consistency check and good quality action-oriented entertainment. This needs to be celebrated and applauded despite its shortcomings.
