SS Rajamouli gets an invitation from Karan Johar

Bollywood’s top filmmaker Karan Johar has been hosting the seventh season of Koffee With Karan. The episodes streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar received a top-class response. Karan Johar has been trying hard to bring two top directors of Indian cinema: Sanjay Leela Bhansali and SS Rajamouli for the show. Rajamouli has given his nod but Sanjay Leela Bhansali is busy with the shoot of his web series Heeramandi and he is not much interested to join the show for now.

Karan Johar is on a hunt for other options to join SS Rajamouli. There are talks that KGF sensation Prashanth Neel may join the show if Sanjay Leela Bhansali is not ready. Karan Johar is also busy with the promotions of Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger. Rajamouli is busy with the scriptwork of his next film which has Superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead role. Prashanth Neel is preparing for the next schedule of Salaar featuring Prabhas from September.

Bhansali’s shocking decision for Gangubai Kathiawadi

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s decision is now talk of the Bollywood. The director as a precautionary measure dropped a sensible lovemaking scene from the script of Gangubai Kathiawadi and left his fans disappointed.

In detail, Alia Bhatt starring Gangubai Kathiawadi film have a tender love scene between Alia Bhatt and her on-screen lover, Shantanu Maheswari. Bhansali dropped out a scene from the film. The reasons behind this are the ongoing pandemic and the guidelines. He wants to avoid the scene as a precautionary measure and doesn’t want to break the protocol. He is looking for other ways to showcase the on-screen romance.

On the flip side, the makers of Gangubai Kathiawadi received a huge relief recently. The Bombay High Court has granted a stay on the defamation charges against Bhansali and Alia Bhatt. The movie is going to have a theatrical release post-pandemic and the shooting portions are wrapped up.

‘Padmaavat’ to release worldwide on January 25, makers confirm

After months of facing resistance, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmaavat” — earlier titled “Padmavati” — will hit the screens worldwide on January 25, the makers formally announced on Sunday.

The filmmaker hopes the audience likes the movie, which he says is his homage to the valour of the Rajputs.

The period drama, which will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, will release with a U/A certificate after incorporating five modifications — including title change — suggested by the censor board.

Bhansali said in a statement: “‘Padmaavat’ is a dream come true for me. I have always been fascinated by the stories of honour, valour and vigour of our great Rajput warriors that have been captured so beautifully in our literature and this movie is my homage to those glorious stories.

“I would also like to thank the entire film fraternity for supporting Viacom18 and Bhansali Productions through the entire production and pre-release phase and hope they like the film they so supported.”

The makers, Bhansali Productions and Viacom18 Motion Pictures, have said the film is based on 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem “Padmavat”. It stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji.

“Padmaavat” was caught in a row over claims by Rajput groups backed by a section of the BJP that it distorts history. Shree Rajput Karni Sena, at the forefront of the protests, demanded a ban. Some states, including Rajasthan and Gujarat, have banned the movie.

However, the makers are overwhelmed by the support they have received.

“‘Padmaavat’ is a cinematic masterpiece in every sense of the word. We hope we will surpass the expectations of our fans from across the world. We are humbled with the immense support we have received from the government authorities, the Central Board of Film Certification and the entire film fraternity,” said Sudhanshu Vats, Group CEO, Viacom18.

“It’s a story that is inherently Indian in its context, ethos and values.”

Ajit Andhare, Chief Operating Officer, Viacom18 Motion Pictures, said the movie will witness a “mega-scale release across maximum screens, languages and formats covering 2D, 3D and Imax 3D in India and the world”.

It will be the first Indian film to have an IMAX 3D release, the makers said.

Paramount Pictures will distribute the film across select international markets, including non-traditional territories.

“‘Padmaavat’ will create its own benchmark as an immortal classic when it releases across the world on January 25,” Andhare said.

More trouble for Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’

trouble for Padmavati release

Trouble seems to be mounting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmavati”, with now a Brahmin organisation, Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha, deciding to oppose release of his magnum opus.

In a statement, Suersh Mishra, state president of Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha said that they will not tolerate “distortion” of historical facts at any cost.

The Sri Rajput Karni Sena, an organisation of Rajput community, has already opposed release of the film on December 1 on the same grounds.

Mishra said: “As per the feelings of the general public, screening of this movie should be stopped otherwise the Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha will oppose this movie.”

He said, “They (Bhansali’s team) are trying to defame Padmavati by distorting historical facts. No one can tolerate this.”

The film has been steeped in trouble since shooting began. In January, activists of the Sri Rajput Karni Sena had protested, manhandled and misbehaved with the crew of “Padmavati” claiming that Bhansali was distorting historical facts in the movie.

They had also damaged some cameras and other equipments. Bhansali had to stop shooting.

In March, some miscreants broke the mirrors in Padmini Mahal (palace) in Chittorgarh Fort where Alauddin Khilji is believed to have seen Rani Padmavati or Padmini.

The Karni Sena claims that mirror was invented years after the incident is claimed to have happened so it is a completely untrue and false story.

On November 3, the Karni Sena had called for a Chittorgarh bandh, which it claimed was a success.

Rani Padmini or Padmavati was queen of Chittorgarh.

The Sri Rajput Karni Sena with the help of like-minded organisations plans to organise a big rally in Gandhinagar in Gujarat on November 12 against the movie.
