Sonu Sood to announce second international project soon

0

Actor-producer Sonu Sood is going through some offers for international projects, and says he will make an announcement soon.

The actor made his international debut with Jackie Chan-starrer “Kung Fu Yoga” last year.

“There are a few offers that have been made. I will announce them as soon as they convert. (I am) hoping everything goes fine with them and I am really excited to share them,” Sonu told IANS.

Sonu, on behalf of Sony Pix for ‘Martial Arts PIXathon’, says working with Chan was an enriching experience.

He said: “Jackie Chan is one of the most humble guys I have come across… He never made anyone around him feel small, and made everyone feel special.

“He is also one of the most disciplined actors with whom I worked out at 5 a.m. and learned stunts from him and his team.”

At the moment, Sonu is excited for his forthcoming war drama “Paltan”, being directed by J.P. Dutta.

“I am very excited about ‘Paltan’ and I always wanted to play a soldier in any film in my career and also working with J.P. Dutta, known best for his war films, was part of my wishlist.”

He will also be seen in “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” and Kannada film “Kurukshetra” and is working on a biopic on badminton star P.V. Sindhu.

Telugu Heroes Insecure of Sonu Sood?

Ace director Rajamouli says that he prefers powerful villains in his movies, and he reasons that when a hero beats a powerful villain, his heroism gets elevated and he is even more revered. Our Telugu heroes are following his technique and are making sure to rope in powerful and menacing villains, but with one condition, they shouldn’t be good looking and stylish. This condition is said to be the precise reason why Sonu Sood has been missing in Telugu films.

3-4 years ago, Sonu Sood used to part of half a dozen Telugu films a year. However, he hasn’t acted in a straight Telugu film in past three years, his last appearance was in Mahesh Babu’s ‘Aagadu’ (2014). Interestingly, he wasn’t the first choice in that film as he replaced Prakash Raj.

It is heard that Tollywood heroes are so insecure of Sonu’s macho and stylish looks that they are explicitly asking directors not to cast him in their films. With Tollywood being a Hero-dominated film industry, Sonu Sood had to lose offers because of the stylish looks with which he dominates most of the heroes.

To his credit, Sonu has recently shared screen space with Jackie Chan in ‘Kung Fu Yoga’ and is currently busy with Bollywood films.

When you’re an outsider in Bollywood, no one wants to meet you: Sonu Sood

0

He began his career with modelling, ventured into Hindi filmdom with “Shaheed-E-Azam” in 2002 and last year he featured with international star Jackie Chan in a movie. Actor Sonu Sood says he faced his share of challenges in Bollywood, but paved his way with talent.

Asked if he faced any kind of discrimination when he joined the industry, Sonu told IANS in an email interview: “When I joined the industry, I definitely faced a lot of challenges. When you are an outsider, no one wants to meet you, no one wants to listen to you, or see your work.

“So, at that time, one is just bothered to get into the right door for opportunities rather than work. I think that’s one tough thing that every newcomer faces. I also faced the same, and to be honest, it’s okay.”

The actor, who turned 42 on July 30, says he was “well prepared” for the bumpy ride in Bollywood.

“I believe everyone has to face their own set of struggles in their life,” said the actor, who has featured in films like “Dabangg”, “Jodhaa Akbar”, “Happy New Year” and “R. Rajkumar”. His filmography got enhanced by “Kung Fu Yoga” with martial arts icon Jackie Chan.

It’s been “quite a pleasant journey”, he says.

“But like I always say, my mom used to remind me of that famous line ‘The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep’,” he said when asked if he feels that he has achieved all as an actor.

The Nagpur-born actor, who has featured in southern movies too, says even though an outsider in filmdom, his journey has been very good.

“It’s always tough for many outsiders to get into the film industry, but I think God was kind. The wishes of my parents were doing the trick, so everything fell in place,” he said.

Sonu said that no matter how successful he becomes in life, he will always give 100 per cent to his craft.

Last year, the “Singh Is Kinng” actor established the production house Shakti Sagar Productions, which is named after his late father Shakti Sagar. He is now set to produce a biopic on Olympics women’s badminton silver medallist P.V. Sindhu.

Asked if he has finalised who would be playing the pivotal role and the film’s title, Sonu said: “We have just locked the script of P.V. Sindhu. It’s on the final lines of completion, so let’s see who is the lucky one to do it. We have figured a few names, but are still working on it.”

Will Sonu be part of the biopic too?

“Like I mentioned before, the script is in the final stages, once we lock the final draft, we will try to then make a list of casting actors that even includes me,” he said.

What else is in his kitty?

“Currently, I am working in a Telugu film, three Hindi films which include J.P. Dutta’s ‘Paltan’ that will soon go on floors. There is one big announcement coming soon (later) this week. So yes, there are a couple of things in the pipeline and they are looking great so far.

“I just have to give my best and keep the clock ticking.”

Would love to see Deepika as P.V. Sindhu in my film: Sonu Sood

After producing “Tutak Tutak Tutiya”, Sonu Sood is busy working on his next production — a biopic on badminton player P.V. Sindhu and says he would love to see Deepika Padukone portraying the character.

Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal in 2016.

“I would love to see Deepika playing character of Sindhu in my film. She is a fine actress. We are still in scripting stage. If the part is offered to her and she likes the script and director, and has the time for it, she will surely give her nod.

“After the completion of the script, I would like to approach her for this role because when you become producer, it becomes a huge responsibility to present a strong script in front of actors,” Sonu said here on the sidelines of the 20-year celebration of the movie “Border”.

Deepika is the daughter of ace badminton player Prakash Padukone and she herself has been a badminton player at the national level in her school days. But Deepika is fully invested in “Padmavati” as of now.

Sonu and Deepika have earlier worked together in “Happy New Year”.

Commenting on the progress of the Sindhu biopic, Sonu said: “We are in continuous touch with P.V. Sindhu and her family members. The first draft of the story has been completed and in the coming one or two months, we will be able to lock the script. We are in talks with other actresses as well, but till the time the script is not completed actors also doesn’t get excited for the film.”

Another film on badminton player Saina Nehwal is in the works with actress Shraddha Kapoor playing the title role.

Asked about the similarities between the two films, Sonu said: “Shraddha is a great actress and I know she will do a great job with it. The only common aspect in both the films is badminton but their life and journey towards glory is completely different. I feel these stories will inspire people who live in villages or small cities to become better sportspersons.”
