Role during pandemic was most important of my career: Sonu Sood

0

Actor Sonu Sood, who played good Samaritan during Covid-19 pandemic, said on Wednesday that this was the important role of his career.

“I played many special roles in my films but the role I played during the pandemic is the most important role of my career. Almighty was directing me to do right thing in life. I would like to thank god for awakening me,” he said.

The actor was addressing a function organised here by Cyberabad Police to felicitate frontline warriors and plasma donors.

“When pandemic started I thought we should do our bit but I was clueless,” said Sonu Sood, who recalled that he was moved by the plight of 350 workers in Thane who requested him to provide food for 10 days because they wanted go home in Karnataka by walk.

He approached the authorities and took permissions and arranged transport for this group. Realising that there are millions who are stuck across the country, he started connecting with others to help stranded migrant workers.

“We formed a toll free number and within one hour we received one lakh calls in one hour. My emails were floods with mails. My number was ringing every minute. I asked my secretary to ensure that no call go unanswered,” he said.

Sonu Sood said it was the most special moment ‘to help guest workers because they were real heroes and were reason behind all our comforts’.

The actor said they could connect and send home over 7.26 lakh people. He then started receiving calls from students stuck abroad.

“Fourteen and half thousand students evacuated from like Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Russia and Philippines.”

He said after going back home, the migrant workers and others contacted him and requested for jobs. He recalled that 50 lakh applications for jobs were received in two and half days. He along with other good people connected with him provided employment to two lakh people.

Sonu Sood said people also started approaching him for help for medical treatment. He connected with some doctors, owners of hospitals and people who want to help. Every day 20-22 surgeries are being done for months.

“The first message of the pandemic is that life is not about buying good pair of shoes, clothes and holidays. It’s about people waiting for that one call to happen. My mother used to tell me that you will be successful if you could help one person who not expecting your help.”

The actor told the frontline workers and other felicitated on the occasion that society needs them more now than during the pandemic. “This is time they need you the most. Find people who need your help. There is hero in everyone of us. We have to identify it and inspire others.”

Cyberabad Police and Society for Cyberabad Security Council organised the felicitation to recognise and appreciate all those who helped society through Police in various ways.

“We were the first to send guest workers back to their homes by way of special trains. Three lakh guest workers were ferried in 40 trains to their home towns,” he said.

Sajjanar recalled Cyberabad police were the first in India to set up a Covid Control Room in India in just one day after the lockdown was announced. The centre received 3,000 calls a day.

“We could able to stop commercialisation by setting up Plasma Hotline. Otherwise it would have been sold for, who knows may be for 80,000 or even more,” Sajjanar said.

Cyberabad Police could able to mobilise 8,000 units of plasma. Now the demand for it has come down drastically, he said

Sonu Sood: 2020 taught us to keep families closer than before

1

Actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood says that 2020 has been a tough year, and was like a reality check for us. Sood, who authored the book ‘I Am No Messiah’, says that it taught us to put others before us and to keep out families closer to us than ever.

“2020 has been a tough year. But I am happy and I feel blessed that I got the chance to help so many people. The year was like a reality check for us. It taught us to put others before us and to keep out families closer to us than ever. It gave me the opportunity to interact with so many people. I feel like we are one big happy family now. Going ahead, I hope we continue to be kind and compassionate beings.

“I wouldn’t like to look at it like that. While I’m happy to have the support and love of so many people from all around the country, I don’t see it as a pressure on me. I will keep doing what I’ve been doing with the same vigour. My parents have always told me that with success and privilege comes responsibility. I am always going to remember their words. The love that I have received has only motivated me to keep working hard and being there for people to the best of my ability,” Sood told IANSlife.

In his memoir, ‘I Am No Messiah’, Sonu combines the extraordinary experiences of his journey from Moga to Mumbai. Honest, inspirational and heart-warming, this is the story of Sonu Sood and of the people whose lives he continues to transform. Sonu’s memoir, co-written with veteran journalist and author Meena K Iyer, which was released recently is being well received by readers from across India. A number of people whose life Sonu has touched, NGOs and various institutions are coming on board to support the book.

During the nationwide lockdown, imposed in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, when a wave of poverty-stricken migrants set out on foot to make their arduous journey back home, the value of seva, service to mankind, instilled in him by his parents, spurred Sonu Sood into action. From taking to the streets and reaching out to the stranded, to setting up a dedicated team and making arrangements for national and international transport, Sonu managed to help thousands of helpless and needy workers. Thus, began his ‘Ghar Bhejo’ programme, carried out like a humanitarian mission. Chartered flights, buses and trains were sanitized and paid for. Distress calls from all over the world were answered. Soon, the movement snowballed into a campaign for providing jobs, medical facilities and educational aid to workers.

Sonu says, “While 2020 has been a challenging year in many ways, it has offered me an opportunity to reach out to millions of people and connect with them directly. During the course of this journey, I have learnt and gained a lot from them. I have shared my experiences in my memoirs I Am No Messiah, and it is heartening to see the support the book is receiving not just from book readers but various organisations and institutes who truly believe in our efforts to help people during these difficult times.”

Sonu Sood: Never thought that one day a book will be written on me

2

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood never envisioned that there would be a book about him someday, adding that he misses his mother when such a thing is happening.

Sonu has written a book recounting his experience of helping migrant workers during the Covid lockdown. Titled “I Am No Messiah”, the book is written in first person, revealing the emotional challenges the actor faced while extending help.

“Now, putting everything on paper… my mom, who was a professor, always used to tell me to write about my experiences, whenever you feel they are special because they will stay with you forever. Political colour assumes as Sonu Sood emerges Covid-19 hero

30

“Vadala bommali vadala”. When Sonu Sood as ‘Pasupathi’ mouthed the dialogue in the movie ‘Arundhati’ it gave goose bumps. Soon, it had become a rage and a staple dialogue for many people across the two states.

Now, the deadly spectre of corona seems to have taken the Pasupathi role. The world’s most feared villain ‘coronavirus’ is driving a chill in the spine of people killing them by the dozens. Covid-19 is refusing to die down saying
“Ninnu vadala”. The pandemic is the most despised rogue, real evildoer and lethal. It shows no compassion.

Flus, plagues and diseases are familiar villains in human history, but they bring out the best of character in people. While Covid-19 is wreaking havoc with peoples lives, the pandemic brought out the best in Sonu Sood. The hero in him far outweighed the ‘reel villain’ in him.

First, he had offered his Juhu Hotel in Mumbai for the frontline warriors including the doctors, nurses and the para-medical staff to stay there.
“We can collectively win this fight against Covid-19,” were the soothing words of Sonu Sood. After offering his Juhu hotel to healthcare workers, Sonu Sood has taken up another Herculean task – feeding 45,000 people daily in Mumbai.

Sood seems to have a soft corner for people of two Telugu states. The actor, who played several negative shades in Telugu big hits like Julayi, Athadu, Ek Niranjan, Super, Kandireega, Abhinetri not to forget Arundhati, stretched his helping hand in these cruel times when even kind words are difficult to come by.

In a gesture to give back to the Telugu people who have patronised him for decades, Sood had gifted a tractor to a farmer in Chittoor district. After a netizen sent a video of two young girls ploughing the fields with a yoke, Sood came forward to help the farmer’s family by gifting a tractor.

With more than 1 lakh total confirmed cases and a total of 1,148 Covid-19 deaths, Andhra Pradesh has been India’s one of the top-most affected states. In this scenario, Sood has emerged as an unlikely hero for his ongoing efforts to help people in Andhra Pradesh. His efforts have highlighted the incompetence of the Andhra Pradesh government to come to the rescue of people in the state.

Two days after gifting the tractor’s family in Andhra Pradesh, Sood has responded to a video sent to his Twitter handle. The video showed a techie selling vegetables in Hyderabad after she lost her job due the coronavirus outbreak. Responding to the video, Sonu Sood offered a job.
Sonu Sood has earned immense praise for providing help to the farmer’s family, the techie vegetable seller, frontline warriors in Mumbai and stranded migrant workers in Maharashtra.

Hyderabad is India’s major IT hub only after Bengaluru. K T Rama Rao is the IT minister. It is unfortunate that a techie had to sell vegetables on the street in a city that is known to be the citadel of the IT industry and reflects the utter failure of the IT ministry to safeguard the interests of the techies.

While Sood is reaching out to people in both the states, discordant voices are attaching political motives to the actor. The actor, known to be a BJP sympathiser, has drawn criticism from certain political quarters for his gesture. Rattled by the ‘generosity’ of Sood, some political parties sought to draw a BJP link to his help to people in the two Telugu states even as the saffron party is looking to gain a foothold in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The central BJP leadership also appointed new BJP presidents in the two states. Some leaders called Sood as a BJP stooge which is unfortunate. The actor had faced similar assault in Maharashtra from Shiv Sena, once the BJP ally. What are the YSRCP and TRS leaders insecure about?

This reminds one of the famous quote, “Those who can do, those who cannot criticise.”

Kudos to Sonu Sood. Your gesture is quite soothing in these times when human values have hit the nadir. May his tribe grow.

Sonu quits ‘Manikarnika…’; Kangana blames male chauvinism

0

Actor Sonu Sood has walked out of ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ owing to his professional commitment towards ‘Simmba’. But Kangana Ranaut, the leading lady of the film, has claimed that he left the movie as he “refused to work under a woman director”.

With Krish being busy with his other film, Kangana has stepped in to direct the patchwork of “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi”, which tells the story of Rani Laxmibai.

Sonu, who plays a grey character in Rohit Shetty’s “Simmba”, has grown a beard as part of his looks and is busy shooting the film. But the actor was supposed to have been clean shaven like a warrior in “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi”, backed by Zee Studios and producer Kamal Jain.

It was reported that the makers of ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ will tweak the script of the historical biopic because of his new looks for the film “Simmba”. But the plan didn’t work.

“Inconveniencing the team of his current film, to accommodate the demands of another, are against his professional principles. Sonu has taken the higher road ahead and wishes the team of ‘Manikarnika…’ all the best,” Sonu’s spokesperson said in a statement.

Kangana has claimed that Sonu “didn’t even give us tentative dates to match combinations with other actors”.

“He refused to meet me… He refused to work under a woman director. Even though the team suggested that they have full faith in me, it seems, Sonu had neither dates nor faith,” Kangana said.

The actress also said that Sonu decided to incorporate a few ‘kushti’ scenes which were never there in the script.

“He wanted the producers to retain the kushti portions as he made the body for it for four months. How did I know that is happening behind my back? When writers saw the film, they said they don’t want it,” he said.

According to a source close to Sonu, a major reason behind Sonu’s exit from the film is Kangana’s unprofessional attitude and false claims.

“Sonu has never had any problems with anyone in his almost two decade-long career. Sonu has previously worked with the woman filmmaker, Farah Khan. Also, Kangana claims that Sonu had shot the kushti scene behind her back, but surprisingly the director has to be present on the set to shoot a film and not just the actor,” added the source.

“Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi” is slated to release on January 25 next year.

Kamal Jain said: “Our team is totally focused and dedicated to finish the patchwork shoot to complete the film on time as our release date of January 25 is set in stone. The post-production and VFX is going on in full swing.”

Kamal also expressed his wish to work with Sonu again.

“With a heavy heart, we have mutually decided to part ways due to his date unavailability. He is a thorough professional. I would love to work with him again,” he said.

‘Manikarnika…’ script tweaked because of Sonu’s new look

0

Actor Sonu Sood says the makers of “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” have tweaked the script of the historical biopic because of his new look for the film “Simmba”.

Sonu will be seen playing a grey character in Rohit Shetty’s “Simmba”, and has grown a beard as part of his look. But the actor sports a clean shaven look in “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi”.

According to a source, Sonu has to shoot few scenes of “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi”. The makers of the film have come out with a way to adjust his new look in the narrative.

“I have to sport a beard for ‘Simmba’ and also simultaneously shoot for the patch work left for ‘Manikarnika…’,” Sonu said in a statement to IANS.

“To avoid any continuity problem, the makers of ‘Manikarnika…’ decided to tweak the script,” he added.

Directed by Krish, “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” tells story of Rani Laxmibai. Sonu will be seen as a warrior in the film, backed by Zee Studios and producer Kamal Jain.

“Since Sonu plays a warrior in the movie, his character would return after couple of years with beard to avoid continuity problem,” the source said.

“Manikarnika-The Queen of Jhansi”, also starring Kangana Ranaut, is slated to release on January 25, 2019.
