Do Telangana IAS officers have Swiss Bank accounts?

1

The controversy over ‘quid pro quo’ deals between Megha Krishna Reddy and senior Telangana IAS officer Rajat Kumar, who is working as special chief secretary in irrigation department refuses to die down even after MEIL group (Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd) and Rajat Kumar denying the sensational report published by an online news portal four days ago.

The online portals exposed with evidence that Megha group paid Rs 23 lakh marriage expenses to Rajat Kumar to perform his daughter’s wedding in star hotels belonging to Taj Group in Hyderabad last month in December. This amount was paid as kickbacks to Rajat Kumar for favouring Megha group in award of irrigation contracts. Megha group is undertaking Kaleshwaram project work contracts worth over Rs 1.25 lakh crore.

While this remains so, retired IAS officer Akunuri Murali who took voluntary retirement from Telangana IAS cadre in August 2019 in protest against KCR’s government encouraging corrupt IAS officials with plum posts and sidelining honest IAS offices like him by giving insignificant postings, made a sensational statement that he knew IAS officers in Telangana who have accounts in Swiss Bank.

Normally, Swiss Bank accounts are held by celebrities, politicians, industrailists who amass black money and divert them to Swiss Bank to escape Indian government’s radar.

Murali stated that few IAS officers in Telangana are resorting to largescale corruption in nexus with top TRS leaders in the state government and amassing huge black money. To protect their ill-gotten wealth, they are diverting the black money to Swiss Bank, he alleged.

He demanded judicial inquiry into Rajat Kumar’s issue and initiate stringent action against him if found guilty. If not, this will encourage more IAS officers to indulge in such quid pro quo deals with corporates, industrailists.

Ahead of Budget, KTR reminds PM Modi of his promises

1

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his promises made to the country ‘with target delivery in 2022′.

Two days before the presentation of the Union Budget 2022-23 in the Parliament, Rama Rao took to Twitter to remind Modi of his promises and hoped that allocations will be made to fulfil them.

“As the NDA Govt is set to present Budget 2022, I would like to remind you of some promises that you had made to India with target delivery in 2022. Hope the allocations will be equitable and reflect firm resolve in translating your vision into reality,” tweeted Rama Rao, tagging the Prime Minister.

KTR, as the TRS leader is popularly known, posted media reports about the promises Modi had made. These included doubling of farmers’ income, a house for every Indian and water, electricity and toilet in every house, all by 2022.

Two other clippings posted by the TRS leader were about the Prime Minister’s announcements that bullet trains will be reality in India by 2022 and that India’s economy will double in size to $5 trillion by 2022.

KTR, who is also the Telangana minister for industry, information technology, municipal administration and urban development, also urged Modi to support progressive state like Telangana.

“I would also urge you to support progressive state like Telangana (which is 4th largest contributor to Indian economy) by way of honouring the promises made in AP Reorganisation Act & recommendations by Niti Aayog to support Mission Bhagiratha & Mission Kakatiya,” he tweeted.

KTR has already dashed a series of letters to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other central ministers, seeking funds for various projects.

Is KCR pushing booming TS real estate into crisis?

1

Telangana real estate is booming since the formation of state in June 2014. The real estate market in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad and surrounding districts, namely Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Medak, Yadadri, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar districts has touched the sky and sky is the only limit for the property prices in these districts.

Hyderabad and Telangana are attracting investments into real estate sector significantly from Seemandhra people due to flawed policies of YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh headed by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on the issue of Amaravathi capital and three capitals for AP. With this, the real estate market crashed in AP forcing AP people to invest in Hyderabad and surrounding districts in Telangana to make money.

At this juncture, Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar has decided to hike market value of agriculture lands, non agriculture lands, plots, apartments, houses, flats etc from February 1, all of a sudden, which is just two days away.

These market values were hiked only six months ago in July 2021 and the second hike within six months has come as a big shock to not only property buyers and sellers but also real estate associations and companies.

All are opposing hikes in market values saying that it will discourage people from buying properties in Telangana due to higher registration charges in the current Covid conditions.

They said the time is not right to hike market values and KCR should reconsider his decision.

All are expressing fears that KCR is pushing the booking real estate in Telangana into crisis with his haste decisions.

They are demanding KCR to hold consultations with all stakeholders first and take their feedback on the market value hike before taking such an important decision.

Promotion or demotion? TRS MLAs confused as district presidents!

0

When TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao announced the list of TRS district party presidents for all the 33 districts in Telangana all of a sudden on January 26, it shocked not just TRS leaders and cadre but also party’s MLAs.

This is because out of 33 district presidents announced by KCR, 21 are party’s sitting MLAs. There is a buzz in party circles that TRS MLAs never thought even in their wildest dreams that they would be made party district presidents. They were lobbying hard to secure these posts for their followers for the last one year anticipating that as sitting MLAs the party will never consider them for these party posts.

But KCR is known for giving surprises and creating sensations. He selected 21 MLAs as district party presidents.

Initially, MLAs celebrated as if they had achieved something great in TRS. But now these celebrations started slowly fading out after rumours in TRS spread like wild fire that KCR appointed those MLAs as party district presidents after he decided that he will not give party tickets to them to contest 2023 Assembly polls and they will be replaced by new faces.

KCR reportedly obtained survey reports from various sources which reportedly indicated that these MLAs winning chances are poor in 2023 and they should be replaced. If KCR warned them about denying tickets now, there are chances that these MLAs may defect to BJP or Congress which will cause more damage to TRS at this stage.

To avoid this, KCR prepared ground to replace them by making them district party presidents and pacify them later to ensure that they continue in TRS.

Party circles say KCR giving district party president posts to MLAs was not giving promotions to them but in fact demoting them.

It’s back to school and college in Telangana from Feb 1

0

After a long Sankranti festival vacation, schools and colleges in Telangana are set to reopen on February 1. Telangana Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy announced on Saturday that all educational institutions in the state will resume classes in physical-mode, from Tuesday. She made it clear that it is mandatory for all educational institutions to implement Covid regulations on premises.

The decision comes in the wake of declining Covid numbers in the state, as also the fact that several other states are gradually resuming physical-mode classes.

Schools in Telangana had closed for Sankranti vacations from January 8 to January 18. However, due to rising number of Covid cases, the state government had on January 16, further extended the holidays till January 30. The government had however permitted schools to conduct online classes during this period.

The state government’s announcement comes a day after the High Court had queried it on the issue.

On Friday, the High Court had asked if the state government would reopen schools on January 31. The state government counsel had replied that a decision on the matter is pending.

State Civil servants worried about aggressive Central Govt

0

Telangana Chief Minister KCR and the officialdom in the state is seeing a new, more strident, more aggressive and more belligerent BJP these days. Time was when the BJP leaders of the state used to meet KCR on the sly and enter into understanding with him. Now, the new leadership is not only aggressive, but is also getting ample support from the national leadership and those in the Central government.

Recently Bandi Sanjay was arrested while he was on a dharna at the party office in Karimnagar. The police roughed him up and bundled him into a vehicle after arresting him. Instead of supplicating, Bandi Sanjay slapped a privilege motion on the police. The Parliament immediately served notices on the police. Now the police are doing rounds of Delhi and are a worried lot. Sources in the administration say that their attempts to please the KCR dispensation have boomeranged on them.

Now, reports say that the police have openly colluded with TRS activists in attacking Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind, while he was on a tour of Aravind. The speaker of the Lok Sabha took up the issue suo motu and called Aravind to Delhi to know what happened in Armoor. He also asked the MP to file a complaint. Now, the police officials’ over enthusiasm is likely to prove quite costly for them.

The incident involving the deputation of senior IAS official Rajat Kumar too is causing tremors among the civil servants. In light of these incidents, the administration will now think twice before doing the bidding of the TRS government at the state. They would be worried about the repercussions of their actions. All this has left the administration confused and wary.

KCR gives Rs 1 crore & plot in Hyd to Bheemla Nayak Mogilaiah!

0

Darshanam Mogilaiah, popular as “Bheemla Nayak” Mogilaiah, for his title song for upcoming Pawan Kalyan starrer upcoming movie “Bheemla Nayak”, met Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao in Pragathi Bhavan on Friday (today).

Mogilaiah was recently conferred with “Padma Shri” Award by the Central government on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day.

KCR praised Mogilaiah on winning Padma Shri Award and for bringing laurels and recognition to Telangana and Telangana’s art and culture.

KCR announced Rs 1 crore cash reward to Mogilaiah on behalf of Telangana government. KCR also announced a house plot in Hyderabad for Mogilaiah.

The amount will be used to construct a decent house for Mogilaiah who now lives in a shed-like house in a slum area in Hyderabad.

Mogilaiah and his family members are facing severe poverty and financial problems for the past several decades. All his woes are now coming to an end after winning Padma Shri award.

Although Pawan Kalyan and few other celebrities, NGOs donated money to Mogilaiah after he became popular with Bheemla Nayak title song, the KCR’s huge cash reward and a plot will change the life of Mogilaiah and his family forever.

What led to gap between Pragathi Bhavan and Raj Bhavan?

0

Pragathi Bhavan is the official residence-cum-office of Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao and Raj Bhavan is the official residence-cum-office of Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan.

When ESL Narasimham resided in Raj Bhavan as governor, KCR used to visit Raj Bhavan frequently from June 2014 until September 2019, when ESL Narasimhan was removed from the governor post.

KCR used to travel from Pragathi Bhavan to Raj Bhavan at least twice a week as there was close bonding between KCR and Narasimhan.

After Tamilisai Soundararajan entered Raj Bhavan in September 2019, KCR avoided visiting Raj Bhavan except on days like Independence Day, Republic Day or commencement of the Budget session of Legislative Assembly, which required the CM to meet Governor as per constitutional norms.

Now, KCR started avoiding meeting governor even on Republic Day. What led to the widening gap between Pragathi Bhavan and Raj Bhavan?

Speculations are rife that the actual problem started after Tamilisai rejected the nomination of Padi Kaushik Reddy as MLC under Governor’s quota approved by KCR in August last year.

KCR had to wait for four months for Governor’s clearance. Still, she did not approve. With this, KCR was forced to send Kaushik Reddy as MLC under MLAs’ quota in November last year.

The next thing that annoyed KCR the most was Governor setting up a’ complaint box’ at Raj Bhavan main gate on the occasion of New Year 2022 on January 1 to enable people to lodge complaints on any issue. The governor is forwarding these complaints to TRS government.

This complaint box has now become a weapon for people and also opposition parties to attack TRS government on various issues by dropping complaints on various issues like lack of job notifications, lack of crop insurance etc.

This made KCR even angrier and made him skip even Republic Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan.

Telangana urges Centre to bring MNREGS-like scheme for urban poor

0

Telangana’s minister for municipal administration and urban development K.T. Rama Rao has urged the Centre to introduce MGNREGS like scheme for urban poor to strengthen social security measures in urban areas.

In a letter to union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the state minister requested her to announce National Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme (NUEGS) in the ensuing budget speech on the lines of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to help urban poor in the country.

He believes with the support of the employee guarantee scheme in urban areas, the government can provide job cards like in rural areas and take their services in urban environment protection by engaging them in city level green action plan and in basic infra works like laying pavements and other repair and maintenance works.

Stating that urbanisation is a global trend and India is no exception, the Telangana minister pointed out that urbanisation in India is mostly the result of absence of livelihood in rural areas, that results in exodus or in-migration to urban areas.

“The unavoidable outcome is increased slums and urbanisation of poverty. As per 2011 Census, 31 per cent of the Indian population or about 380 million people live in urban areas. This is a six fold increase from mere 62 million in 1951. This number is estimated to increase to about 600 million by the year 2030, by which time 40 per cent of the Indian population will live in urban areas. Some states like Telangana are witnessing an even faster pace of urbanisation and the urban population in these states is poised to cross the 50 per cent mark in near future,” wrote KTR, as the minister is popularly known.

According to him, the nature of urban poverty poses distinct challenges for housing, water, sanitation, health, education, social security, livelihoods, and the special needs of vulnerable groups such as women, children and the ageing.

KTR mentioned that Covid-19 pandemic has brought to fore the sufferings of urban poor, especially the migrant labour, who constitute a major chunk of urban poor.

According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate in urban India is 9.4 per cent and among the urban youth of the 15-29 years age group, it has rose to 19.2 per cent and 21.1 per cent, respectively, in the pre-lockdown periods of October-December, 2019 and January-March, 2021 respectively. The pandemic and the resultant lockdowns have impacted the urban poor, especially the migrant labour more than any other segment in terms of loss of livelihoods.

He cited the report of Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) which says that 90 per cent of workers were in the informal sector, which is 419 million of the 465 million workers.

Its quarterly bulletin for April-June 2020 says that the unemployment rate in urban areas for those above 15 years jumped to 20.8 percent from 9.1 percent in January-March 2020.

The majority urban poor in the country work in the unorganised (informal) sector of the economy with irregular salaries, no written job contracts, often get their jobs through job contractors and subcontractors with no social protection. It was evident during the lockdown imposed in the country. Numerous reports and surveys have revealed that urban informal sector workers were the worst hit by loss of employment during the lockdown, he added.

Governor serious on KCR, ministers’ absence at R-Day event!

1

Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan reportedly took a serious view of Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao and his entire cabinet skipping the official Republic Day celebrations held at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.

It has been a custom and tradition for decades since India became Republic in 1950 that CM and ministers attend Republic Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan where Governor hoists the national flag and PM and union ministers attend celebrations at Rajpath in Delhi where President of India hoists the national flag.

KCR and his ministers attended the R-Day celebrations without fail from 2015 to 2021 after Telangana state was formed in June 2014. But KCR and his entire cabinet skipped the R-Day event on Wednesday. This R-Day event assumed more significance at a time when India is celebrating 75 years of Independence with an initiative “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

KCR and his cabinet skipped such an important event and Governor reportedly feels that they humiliated not only her but also Governor’s chair.

She reportedly felt that KCR treated her as a “BJP leader” and skipped R-Day event on ‘political grounds’. The CM sent the chief secretary, DGP and few other officials from Telangana government side to attend R-Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan.

Had KCR skipped R-Day on ‘health grounds’ it would not have any objection from anyone. But KCR was very much hale and healthy as he hoisted national flag at Pragthi Bhavan on Wednesday and later went to Parade Grounds in Secunderabad to pay tributes to martyred Army personnel.

This clearly proved that KCR intentionally skipped Raj Bhavan event and that is said to be the reason for Governor’s anger on KCR.

She is likely to complain to PM Narendra Modi and President Ramnath Kovid against KCR and his government on this issue.

Patriotic fervour marks R-Day celebrations in Telugu states

0

Patriotic fervour marked 73rd Republic Day celebrations on Wednesday in the Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The celebrations, however, were low-key due to restrictions on public gatherings to check the spread of Covid-19.

Governors of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh led the celebrations by unfurling the national flag at main official functions in their respective states.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan unfurled the Tricolor at the ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the governor. The event was held with Covid-19 protocol. Like last year, there was no march past, no parade review by the chief guest, no tableaux or cultural programmes by school children.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who skipped the main function, unfurled the national flag at Pragathi Bhavan, the official residence of the chief minister.

KCR, as the chief minister is popularly known, paid floral tributes to the photographs of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Several public representatives, chief secretary, director general of police and top officials participated in the Republic Day celebrations.

Later at the Army Memorial at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, the chief minister paid floral tributes to the martyred army personnel by lighting a lamp.

In Andhra Pradesh, the main official function was held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada. Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan unfurled the national flag and reviewed the parade.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, his cabinet colleagues and top officials attended the celebrations.

The Republic Day celebrations were held across both the states. Flag hoisting was organised at government offices, high courts and offices of political parties.

Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar unfurled the national flag at BRK Bhavan, the temporary state secretariat.

The Republic Day celebrations were also held at Telangana High Court, where Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma unfurled the Tricolor.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi unfurled the national flag at Madina Circle in the old city of Hyderabad.

Telangana Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy, BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar also unfurled the national flag at their respective party offices.

KCR to abandon Gajwel, to contest from elsewhere?

1

Here’s the real shocker. Telangana CM and TRS supremo KCR will not contest from his home turf of Gajwel in the next assembly constituency. If highly placed sources are to be believed, KCR is going to vacate Gajwel and give it to his once-arch rival and present associate Vanteru Pratap Reddy. KCR will contest from some other constituency in 2023.

According to highly placed sources, KCR recently held a meeting in his farmhouse with MLC Yadav Reddy, Pratap Reddy, district collector and some other close confidants. During the course of the meeting, he is said to have said that he would not contest from Gajwel in 2023 and that Pratap Reddy would be the party candidate. He said he would contest from some other constituency.

Pratap Reddy, who originally belonged to the Congress and fought twice (in 2014 and 2018) against KCR. Though he gave a tough fight to KCR, the latter invited him into the TRS and made the chairperson of the Forest Development Corporation. Currently, Reddy is incharge of the constituency on behalf of KCR. Telangana CM is said to have told MLC Yadav Reddy to cooperate with Pratap Reddy and ensure his victory.

Those in the know say that KCR might shift either to Siddipet or Dubbak. Harish Rao, a KCR loyalist, might be asked to shift to another constituency. It is likely that either KCR or Harish could contest from Dubbak to deny a victory to Raghunandan of the BJP.

Telangana BJP MP alleges attack by TRS men

1

BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind’s car and few other vehicles in his convoy were damaged in an alleged attack by TRS workers in Nizamabad district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred near Issapalli village when the MP was on his way to Nandipet village to participate in some development programmes.

The incident led to tension in the area. While the Lok Sabha member from Nizamabad blamed ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for the attack, the latter claimed that farmers attacked the MP as he had failed to fulfill promises made to them before his election.

Arvind alleged that TRS workers carried out the attack on his convoy with the support of police. He alleged that the attackers were armed with knives, sticks and stones and they wanted to kill him.

The windscreen of the MP’s car and five other vehicles were damaged in the attack.

The MP said one of his party workers received stab injuries, adding that he would lodge a complaint with the Lok Sabha privileges committee and the Union Home Ministry.

Arvind claimed that 200-300 TRS workers had gathered near the village to attack him and police had colluded with them. The MP, who sat on the road to register his protest, blamed the police commissioner saying he had expressed helplessness when he requested him to clear the way.

Union Minister for Tourism G. Kishan Reddy and state BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar have been informed about the attack, he said.

The state BJP chief has alleged that there is breakdown of law and order in the state and blamed Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for this.

The BJP leader said the director general of police knew about the attack but did not nothing. “When a MP can be attacked in this state, how secure is a common man,” he asked.

Meanwhile, TRS denied involvement of its workers in the attack. The ruling party said farmers who were angry over the false promises of Arvind staged the protest.

Telangana Minister for Housing, Roads and Buildings V. Prashanth Reddy said Arvind went to the area despite police cautioning him about the protest by farmers.

The TRS leader recalled that in 2019 elections Arvind had promised to turmeric farmers that if elected, he will ensure that the Turmeric Board comes up in Nizamabad in five days.

He said the BJP leader had also promised Minimum Support Price to the farmers and had even signed a bond paper to assure the farmers. The MP “failed” to fulfill both the promises after his election and this has angered the farmers, Reddy asserted.

Revanth stirs up hornet’s nest by eyeing Kodangal MLA seat!

1

TPCC chief and Malkajgiri MP A.Revanth Reddy stirred up a hornet’s nest again in Telangana Congress.

Revanth on Tuesday visited his home Assembly constituency Kodangal from where he was elected twice as MLA on TDP ticket in 2009 and 2014 elections.

Revanth quit TDP and joined Congress before 2018 Assembly polls and contested Kondangal seat on Congress ticket. Shockingly, Revanth lost to TRS in 2018.

Later, Revanth secured Congress Lok Sabha ticket from Malkajgiri constituency and surprised everyone by defeating TRS candidate Marri Rajashekar Reddy, the son-in-law of TRS minister Ch Malla Reddy, in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

In unexpected developments, Revanth became TPCC chief in 2021.

In Congress, everything is decided by party high command. Whether one has to contest the Assembly poll or Lok Sabha polls, the party high command will take a decision.

But on Tuesday during his visit to Kodangal, Revanth announced on his own that he will contest from Kodangal Assembly seat again in 2023 Assembly polls.

This created a flutter in Congress circles and fuelled speculations over why Revanth made such a statement.

Congress leaders feel that Revanth made this statement to send a strong message across that he is in the race for Telangana CM’s post if Congress comes to power in 2023 and for that reason he has decided to contest Assembly polls in 2023.

It remains to be seen how Congress high command and Revanth critics in TPCC would respond to Revanth’s statement.

Kavitha, Harish join KCR, KTR’s ‘letter war’!

0

TRS president, Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao and his son, IT minister K.T.Rama Rao have launched a ‘letter war’ on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP government at the Centre.

For the past one month, KCR and KTR are writing letters to PM Narendra Modi and union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Nitin Gadkari, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat etc pointing out discrimination being meted out to Telangana in sanctioning of projects and funds, on pending state bifurcation promises and demanding more funds and projects to Telangana in upcoming Union Budget 2022-23 set to be presented in the Parliament in February.

KCR and KTR are also attacking Modi and Centre in their letters.

These letters of KCR and KTR are attracting top headlines in newspapers and TV channels in Telangana while some are garnering the attention of national media.

Now, finance minister T.Harish Rao and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha have joined in this ‘letter war’ against BJP.

Incidentally, both Harish Rao and Kavitha wrote letters on the same day on Monday.

In his letter to union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Harish Rao took strong exception to Centre not granting funds to Telangana for the development of backward regions, pending 14th and 15th finance commission grants, denial of funds recommended by NITI Aayog, GST/ IGST arrears etc.

Kavitha on the other hand dashed off a letter to Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay to answer why BJP government at the Centre did not sanction a single paise to Telangana for conducting Medaram Jatara, known to be the Asia’s largest tribal festival, even after CM KCR writing series of letters to the Centre in this regard.

Kavitha asked Sanjay to answer why BJP government at the Centre has kept the legislation extending 10 per cent reservations for tribals (STs) pending that was passed by TRS government in Legislative Assembly in 2017.

BJP leaders are angry at entire KCR’s family engaging in letter war against BJP.

Telangana to permanently solve drinking water problem in Hyderabad

0

The government of Telangana plans to bring the Godavari river water to Hyderabad from Kondapochamma Sagar and Mallanna Sagar reservoirs to permanently solve drinking water problem in Greater Hyderabad and surrounding municipalities.

The two reservoirs were built as part of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation scheme, described as the world’s biggest lift irrigation project.

The Telangana capital and surrounding municipalities are currently getting the Godavari and Krishna river water from Ramagundam and Sunkishala respectively.

Minister for municipal administration K. T. Rama Rao said the Kaleshwaram project has brought Godavari water nearest to the city with construction of Kondapochamma Sagar and Mallanna Sagar reservoirs.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is working on long-term plans to take care of drinking water needs of Hyderabad and surrounding municipalities till 2051, is keen to draw water from Kondapochamma Sagar to Gandipet (Osman Sagar lake), one of the oldest sources of drinking water to the city.

“Kondapochamma Sagar is 612 metres above sea level while Hyderabad is 535 metres above sea level. If water is brought from there by gravity, the city will have abundant water for all its future needs,” Rama Rao said.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Phase-II drinking water supply scheme at Alkapoor Township, Manikonda on Monday.

The project being taken up at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore will cater to drinking water requirements of 980 colonies and gated communities within ORR jurisdiction.

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has already completed ORR project Phase-I at a cost of Rs.775 crore providing water to 190 villages situated beyond Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and within ORR limits.

KTR, as the minister is popularly known, said Hyderabad and 25 surrounding municipalities are being currently supplied 600 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) water and the requirement by 2051 in estimated to be 1,000 MGD.

The minister pointed out that Hyderabad is the fastest growing city in the country as it has many advantages, including its central location and good climate, while metro cities Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai were facing their own problems.

He said the state government was making plans not only to meet the current requirements but also cater to the city’s needs in future. The government was working to ensure supply of 140 litres per capita per day (LPCD).

KTR claimed that since the formation of Telangana state, the government has been focusing on providing basic amenities to people and has achieved success in ensuring 24X7 quality electricity to all sectors and drinking water to all households.

He said during the last seven-and-a-half years, the state government spent Rs 6,000 crore on improving water supply to Hyderabad and its surrounding municipalities.

In its first term, the TRS government took up Rs 2,000 crore drinking water scheme in all municipalities and corporations around Hyderabad. Work is currently on to lay an additional pipeline from Sunkishala reservoir at a cost of Rs 1,400 crore. The first phase of ORR drinking water supply was taken up at a cost of Rs 775 crore while the foundation stone was laid on Monday for the second phase at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore.

Re-launch of Dalit Bandhu: Will Telangana have early elections again?

0

Is Telangana going to have early elections? In 2018, KCR had taken everyone by surprise by going in for early polls. The present government’s term is going to end in 2023.But is KCR planning to shock the opposition and go in for early polls by the end of this year? This is the hot topic of discussion in Telangana political circles these days.

Political watchers say that KCR Government’s plan to extend Dalit Bandhu to the whole state is an indication that he is planning to advance the elections. Insiders say that the Dalit Bandhu was actually meant for the 2023 elections. However, the unexpected Huzurabad elections forced KCR to pull out this hidden weapon. NThe scheme which was implemented in some parts of Huzurabad and Vasaamarri was stopped citing election code. Since then, the scheme has been kept in the cold storage.

Now KCR has once again brought the Dalit Bandhu out of the closet. He now says that the Dalit Bandhu would be extended to every assembly constituency by March this year. The government is likely to implement such a vote-catching scheme only if there are elections. Hence the political watchers say that there could be elections to Telangana state assembly towards the end of this year.

KCR told the district collectors to identify 100 people per constituency for the implementation of the scheme. The beneficiary would be selected in consultation with the local MLA, KCR said. This will help create a pro-KCR buzz in the dalit community, the TRS feels. Using this feel-good atmosphere, the party can romp home to power in the elections, say political watchers.

Why TRS is making so much noise about “Dalit Bandhu” again?

0

Dalit Bandhu scheme has again made it to the top headlines in all major newspapers on Sunday (today).

TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao introduced Dalit Bandhu scheme all of a sudden in June last year with an aim to defeat Etela Rajender in Huzurabad Assembly bypoll in October last year.

In Huzurabad, Dalit voters were the majority and KCR felt that if TRS government gives Rs 10 lakh to each Dalit family in the constituency under Dalit Bandhu scheme, it will ensure victory for TRS in the bypoll.

But KCR’s calculations went wrong and Etela Rajender from BJP defeated TRS. After Huzurabad bypoll, KCR stopped talking about Dalit Bandhu scheme.

But KCR all of a sudden instructed ministers, TRS MLAs and collectors on Saturday (yesterday) to implement Dalit Bandhu scheme in all the remaining 118 Assembly constituencies in March and directed them to select 100 Dalit families in each constituency.

There are no bypolls or even Assembly polls until December 2023 in Telangana. Why KCR raked up Dalit Bandhu issue again is the question being debated extensively in political circles.

Speculations are rife that KCR did it to counter BJP which laid special focus on 19 Assembly seats reserved for Dalits (SCs). Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay announced Mission-19 to win all 19 SC reserved seats in Telangana in 2023 Assembly polls.

To counter this, KCR came out with Dalit Bandhu scheme in all constituencies to lure Dalit voters towards TRS.

The Boss begins to clean up the party, readies list of non-performing MLAs

TRS boss KCR is said to have taken up the task of refurbishing the party and addressing the problem areas in the right earnest. With barely a year and a few months left for the 2023 elections to Telangana assembly, he is said to be busy assessing the ground situation through various surveys done by Prashant Kishor and his team and by evaluating the performance of the ministers, MLAs and MPs.

It has come to KCR’s notice that three of his ministers are deeply involved in local feuds and one minister is believed to have failed in coordinating with the district administration. Similarly, tensions between the old-timers and the new entrants into the party are simmering in several places. The problem is said to be acute in Tandur, Nakrekal, Kollapur and other places. The internal surveys have shown that one MLA in Adilabad, two each in Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar, three in Nalgonda and four in Rangareddy are performing way too below par.

Khammam has been identified as a problem district as despite encouraging defections, the party does not seem to be getting any better. The lone minister from the district too is embroiled in groupism, according to reports. Even in the local body elections, Khammam TRS failed to live up to expectations, say the reports.

Meanwhile, KCR is said to have focused on filling nominated posts. He is also yet to fill the vacancy created by Eatala Rajender’s resignation eight months ago.

Internal sources say that KCR is planning to induct more youths into the party in the coming days. At least 65 of his MLAs are second-term MLAs. Around 35 are first term MLAs. His plan, according to party sources, is to make the party look younger. Party sources also say that he is planning to undertake a tour of the state in February.

What is KCR’s ‘hidden agenda’ behind land value increase for 2nd time?

0

Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao’s decision to increase market value of lands from February all of a sudden came as a big shock to land buyers in Telangana.

This is because the land values were increased in Telangana only six months ago in July 2021. This triggered a debate in political circles that there is a ‘hidden agenda’ behind land value increase.

Telangana state was formed in 2014 and KCR became Telangana CM also in 2014. KCR did not give permission to hike land values for seven years until July 2021. Prior to that, land values were revised by previous Kiran Kumar Reddy government in Undivided AP in 2013, which KCR continued till 2021.

As per rules, the market value of lands should be hiked every two years. But KCR kept calm for seven years. What prompted KCR to keep calm for seven years to increase market values of lands earlier and now what prompted KCR to increase land values twice within six months.

It is believed that KCR did not increase land values from 2014 to 2021 as TRS government was busy acquiring thousands of acres for various irrigation projects like Kaleshwaram, Palamur Rangareddy, Seetharama etc besides other projects like Hyderabad Pharma City, Kakatiya Mega Textile Park etc. If market values were increased then, KCR’s government would have faced a huge financial burden as it had to pay higher compensation for landowners based on increased land values.

Now that, the entire land acquisition for all projects has been over, KCR decided to hike market value of lands. In this way, KCR planned ‘double benefit’ for TRS government and ‘double loss’ for land owners and buyers.

KCR saved financial burden for TRS government in acquiring lands by not increasing land values earlier and now KCR is eyeing higher revenues for TRS government with increased market values as it will automatically fetch higher land registration charges for the government.
