Miyapur land scam: KCR says govt did not lose a single inch of land or a rupee

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao finally broke silence on the Miyapur land scam. He held that CBI inquiry is not needed and said that the government did not lose a single rupee on the Jagirs of Miyapur, Balnagar, Ibrahimatnam and Shamshabad, despite people making several attempts to gain access.

KCR said that the lands on which private individuals are allegedly claiming rights are still under government control. A review meeting was held at Pragati Bhavan on land grabbing issue on Tuesday. On the contrary to accusations of opposition parties and the media hype, the meeting concluded that this not a scam and that not even one square yard of government land is alienated. The TRS chief said that 810 acres of land in Miyapur has been registered to private owners with litigation rights. The land has not been transferred as the registration fee would be Rs 415 Crore, but only Rs. 60 lakh was paid. Also several lands were supposed to be registered as Immovable property under Land Transfer Book No.1 but were registered under Moveable property under Book 4. Consequently, KCR concluded that such registrations have no value and held that it was a grave mistake from the sub-registrar’s end.

The government believes that to gain control on old Jagir lands, illegal registrations were done by creating GPAs. Such registrations are invalid and do not have legal binding. KCR said that trail is going on in Supreme court related to Jagirdar lands and also directed officials to send the details directly to the chief justice.

However, he did acknowledge that some of these registrations have been subjected to irregularities and subsequently criminal cases have been registered against those individuals. KCR asserted that the investigation is going on and the culprits will be punished.

T-govt recommends new support prices for crops

Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao decided to meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the unremitting woes of farmers. Realizing the six months of hard work the farmers put in for harvesting the crops, the TRS chief decided to endure the cost of allocation and stand by the farmers.

The state had written a letter to the Union Minister of Agriculture, Radha Mohan Singh two months ago on the issue and the problem the farmers are facing, but the central government is yet to take decision on the minimum support price (MSP) for various crops. The chilli prices which sought 12000 rupees per quintal last year, are seeing continues fall to as low as 1000 rupees per quintal.

Explaining the financial situation of farmers, the TRS government wrote a letter about two months requesting execution of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) recommendations. Due to lack of response, after analysing the reports of the last kharif, KCR recommended raising the minimum support price for major crops grown in Telangana. He even sent the suggestions to central government.

Telangana has around 140 odd crops grown during Kharif and Yasangi (Rabi). The agricultural sector has been in crisis for quite some time now. The state is providing incentives for farmers to adopt technology, so that they can achieve better results by reducing the cost of cultivation and thereby reducing the losses to certain extent.

The minimum support price changes are within the purview of the central government and it has fixed MSP for only 18 crops in the country.

The National Commission on Farmers (NCF) headed by agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan made several endorsements which includes fixing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops at levels of “at least 50 per cent more than the weighted average cost of production.” These had been listed in the BJP’s 2014 Lok Sabha election manifesto and backed by every party in the Opposition including Congress. However, the Swaminathan formula is an illusion.

Initial Review: T-wallet looks great but pay to use it

0

Telangana government is known to partner with startups for government apps. This time it gave an opportunity to finance startup Transaction Analysts to create its T-wallet app. The app is available for download for Android and iOS platforms. As the app was released on Thursday do not expect it to be free of errors. Specifically, latency issues, frozen screen and messages like “error occurred. Please try again later” or “server Error”. Nonetheless your money is safe. Since the app is new-fangled, hopefully these bugs will be apparently rectified in subsequent updates.

The first thing a user notices when they add money to their T-wallet account, is the payment gateway charges. So, if you add say Rs 100 to your account using net banking, Rs 1.84 will be deducted. This will not be appreciated or for that matter accepted by the users. Especially when private wallets like Paytm are providing services without payment gateway charges and also give away cashbacks and coupon codes.

Minister K T Rama Rao claimed that BHIM is only for personal transactions but using T-wallet app people can make government transactions as well. A major advantage with BHIM is it directly connects to bank accounts and there is no payment gateways and burden of adding money to the wallet. If one has more than two bank accounts the details can be retrieved on the same app.

It is said that the wallet will support the citizens with receipt of government benefits like pension, scholarships, MNREGA wages and others. So most likely the money will be transferred as mcash and then the customer needs to transfer it to their bank account. The IMPS transaction limits are set as per RBI guidelines, so if any incentive is greater than 5000 rupees for a non-KYC customer and 10000 rupees for a KYC customer, there will be service charges.

Currently almost all the banks offer its customers with a facility for standing transactions to pay utility bills like electricity, gas, water and also private bills like DTH, landline, Internet etc. A lot of marketing is needed for this existing user base to switch to T-wallet. One major advantage using this wallet  is that there is no transaction charge for paying electricity bill. One can pay it using the app, or visit the electricity website and select the option t-wallet at payment. For RTA related payments, visit the page as there is no option in the app directly. Surprisingly when you apply for Learner License online with RTA, at the payment page there are two wallets, one Paytm and other T-wallet.

Its integration with government departments such as MeeSeva, GHMC, HMWSSB, RTA will be beneficial. Currently it offers only Electricity, Waterbill and GHMC icons in the government bills section. However, the GHMC assimilation is likely to be released in subsequent updates.

T-wallet is similar to Paytm and an easy UI with government services as a value add. However, Paytm has already penetrated into market. The launch of the app is late particularly when there is tough-competition in the cluttered e-wallet space with players like Paytm, PayUmoney, State Bank Buddy etc. However, the minister said about 1.2 lakh merchants have been enabled and awareness has been created among 7 lakh people as part of the project. The government may want to waive-off payment gateway charges for encouraging general public to use the T-wallet app.

Rahul Gandhi’s Dynasty Politics Salvo Backfires, TRS Attacks Congress

Rahul Gandhi’s salvo targeting Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao over dynastic politics has ricocheted back, with TRS leader K T Rama Rao calling it “joke of the millennium”.

“Some so called national leaders of national parties who can’t even win an election in their own backyard, make tall claims elsewhere ????. Indian Notional (sic) Congress leadership talking of family rule has to be the joke of the millennium. Classic comedy ????,” Rao, son of the chief minister, wrote on Twitter.

The Congress vice president was in Sangareddy in Telangana on Thursday where he attacked the chief minister, accusing him of taking care of only his own family.

Without naming Rao’s son K T Rama Rao, a minister in his government, daughter and Lok Sabha member K Kavitha, and nephew Harish Rao, also a minister, Gandhi had asked if students and farmers fought for the creation of Telangana for a “single family”.

“Has the state been created just for four people,” Gandhi said, and alleged that the chief minister was not taking along with him students, youth, women and backward classes.

In New Delhi, apparently apprehensive of the possibility of questions being asked about Gandhi’s remarks against dynastic politics, some Congress leaders at the party’s briefing were overheard talking about the likely posers from the media.

Union Minister Smriti Irani quickly latched on to it and posted on Twitter: “Comedy of errors? Dynasty ke statement par dynasty ke supporter kya bolein iss par gehen calculation” (Serious calculation over how supporters of dynasty should respond to statement on dynasty).”

In a video of the Congress’ press conference put out by Irani, a party leader is heard talking to its spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi about Rahul Gandhi’s comments.

He is also heard on microphone telling Singhvi that nobody from the Gandhi family has been in power since Rajiv Gandhi, apparently a suggestion to counter questions on Gandhi’s dynasty jibe at Rao.

Later, Singhvi mounted a counteroffensive against the BJP, saying the saffron party has been an ally of the Akali Dal and Shiv Sena, which pursue dynastic politics.

“When you talk of errors and a miss, you obviously don’t look at the detail and the BJP will answer this question. All those who ask this question, like BJP and others, like an ostrich in the sand forget to ask the question of Akalis or the Shiv Sena who are their longest allies. Dynasty is forgotten that time,” he said.

Singhvi said in the last 28 years, of which Congress has been in power for 16 years at the Centre, no leader from the Gandhi family has occupied any government office despite winning elections. “So let us put things in perspective. I think this (the question about dynastic politics) has lost its logic,” he said.

“It is an irony that a member of the Gandhi family, which is the biggest example of the dynasty politics in India, is accusing another leader of promoting dynasty,” BJP’s media department head Anil Baluni said.

Telangana Govt Orders CID Probe Into Land Scam

Taking a serious note of the alleged illegal transfer of 796 acres of government land to private individuals, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tusday ordered a CID inquiry into the matter.

“The CM discussed the issue of 796 acres of government land registered to private persons in Medchel district. He wanted the officials to take firm action against the guilty and CID to probe it in depth,” a release from Rao’s office said.

The Cyberabad Police have arrested a sub-registrar and two directors of different real estate firms for allegedly transferring government land to private companies and causing losses to the state exchequer.

R Srinivasa Rao, sub-registrar of Kukatpally, and P S Parthasarathi and P V S Sharma, directors of the two firms, were arrested on Monday for alleged illegal transfer of government land in Miyapur village on the city outskirts, a Cyberabad police release said.

Meanwhile, one more sub-registrar was arrested by police on Tuesday on charge of registering properties violating provisions of Registration Act 1908 and allegedly causing a huge loss in crores to the government exchequer.

T Ramesh Chander Reddy, who earlier worked as Sub-Registrar at L B Nagar, registered three sale deeds for 10,950 Square Yards land that were executed by M/s South India Research Institute Pvt Ltd represented by G Subba Raju in favour of Sama Narasimha Reddy and others, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said.

“The property is located near national highway and as per the present market value, the sub-registrar has to collect stamp duty at Rs 35,000 per sq yards, but he adopted the market value at Rs 13,000 per sq yard and caused loss of Rs 1.45 crore to the government,” the commissioner said.

During his tenure as sub-registrar at L B Nagar, Ramesh had registered number of immovable properties in various documents by violating provisions of Registration Act, 1908 and caused huge loss to the state government exchequer, he said.

On a petition lodged by P Subba Rao, Registrar of Ranga Reddy District, a case under relevant IPC sections and under Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Registration Act, 1908 was registered against Ramesh, Bhagwat added.

The CMO release said two sub-registrars have been suspended in connection with the irregularities. Another sub- registrar had already been suspended and arrested.

Favouring “cleansing” of corruption in registration department, Rao announced immediate abolition of `anywhere registration system’ related to properties.

He directed Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials to keep a close vigil on the activities in sub-registrar offices all over the state and investigate the irregularities.

In another decision, the CM directed withdrawal of certain special discretionary powers given to sub-registrars and registrars.

The government received information that ‘benami’ transactions are not being uploaded on to the system by some officials in collusion with those registering the documents and the police department has been asked to form ‘Flying Squads’ to check such practices, the release said.

Rao said there is no truth in reports in some quarters that certain government land had gone into the hands of private individuals.

Noting that registering state-owned lands in the name of private persons is illegal, he said some persons got such properties registered to obtain loans from banks.

The registration had been cancelled after the matter came to the notice of the government, he said.

Telangana should be southern gateway for BJP: Amit Shah

0

BJP chief Amit Shah on Tuesday said Telangana should become the gateway for the party in south India.

Addressing a public meeting at Peddadevulapalli village in Nalgonda district on the second day of his three-day visit, he exuded confidence that the BJP will form the government in Telangana in 2019.

Shah said Telangana should become an important part of the development process initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The way Telangana unit of BJP is working for last two years, visiting every village to strengthen the party, I am confident that in 2019 BJP will form the government in Telangana,” he said.

Continuing his attack on the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government, he said the schemes launched by the Modi government for the welfare of various sections of people had not reached the people in the state.

Referring to his interaction with villagers, the BJP chief said people were facing problems due to drinking water shortage and widows and elderly persons were not getting pension.

He said the farmers were suffering as their fields were being destroyed by the chemical factories.

Shah said the Modi government was standing like a rock whenever challenges were arising for the country’s security. He claimed that the government boosted the morale of the armed forces by carrying out surgical strikes.

The BJP national president earlier visited Chinna Madaram village and lauded the initiatives taken by the woman sarpanch for implementation of various schemes of the central government.

Stating that the Modi government launched 107 schemes for the welfare of the poor, women, youth and other sections, Shah said if the schemes were properly implemented at the grassroots they could transform people’s lives.

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP state president K. Laxman and other leaders accompanied Amit Shah.

Human Chain at Parade Ground following Dharna Chowk protests

TRS government is unequivocal about changing the landscape of Hyderabad to make it Vaastu Complaint. This includes Secretariat, Pragati Bhavan, Dharna Chowk and Parade grounds. In an impromptu protest, today at Historic Parade ground sportspersons, walkers and others gathered to form a human chain against the state government’s decision to build a new Secretariat on the premises. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is avoiding the old secretariat due to Vaastu Dosha.

The centre which is likely to give approval for the construction of a new state-of-the-art Secretariat complex, will be given 150 acres of land in the outskirts of the city instead of the Bison polo ground. Secunderabad Cantonment celebrated independence on 15 August 1947 at the parade grounds while the rest of Hyderabad joined Indian Union after Operation Polo in 1948. The KCR government is not only occupying the land of significance, but also is planning to demolish the current secretariat which belongs to the Nizam Era.

This is not first such change by TRS government. Last week witnessed protests over Dharna Chowk. The government issued an order to change the land-use of NTR stadium near Indira Park for building of the Telangana Kala Bharati touted to be a cultural centre for the city. No alternative provision for playground has been made. The presence of Dharna Chowk will cause a hindrance for Kala Bharati where apparently, VIPs will visit. TRS tried to portray that locals want the Dharna Chowk to be moved but however mufti police acting as residents were a huge embarrassment for the government.

One such successful move by the Chief Minister was the construction of Pragati Bhavan or the office cum home. The government is making such colossal changes by ignoring both public concerns and the heritage of historically significant city of Hyderabad.

Dharna Chowk Demonstration witnesses flying chairs and sticks

0

Opposition parties are locking horns with the colony associations at Indira Park’s vicinity or Dharna Chowk of Telangana. The groups were seen in intense brawl who were not only raising slogans against each other but also were found throwing flags, sticks and chairs. A couple of them were seen injured in the scuttle.

TRS government decided to shift historic Dharna Chowk which played a crucial role in Telangana movement, from Indira Park to outskirts in Nagole. The Opposition parties including various organizations and people are protesting against the government’s decision and are demanding withdrawal of its decision.

However, the residents of the area along with members of Indira Park Morning Walkers’ Association are staging competitive protest opposing the political parties demonstration saying that regular protests are causing traffic problems and inconvenience to the locals. The opposition parties alleged that the sudden demand by colony associations against them is a sponsored by the TRS ruling party to hamper the campaign of the Dharna Chowk Protection Committee.

CP Mahender Reddy said all parties were permitted to stage protests at Dharna chowk. He said that the permission is valid only for today and the protests have to be conducted in peaceful atmosphere. He said action will be taken against those who violate the rules. The CP requested both the sides, the opposition parties and the residents to maintain endurance.

The ‘Chalo Indira Park’ movement on Monday has the support from all the opposition parties BJP, Congress, TDP CPI, CPM, Jana Sena.

Pawan Kalyan gets dramatically fallacious with mirchi figures

0

Jana Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan responded again or let’s say signed a press note and it was merely for the sake of doing it. All the political parties are marching to Khammam Market Yard and Guntur Market Yard, but as always Jana Sena will not march but tweet. Jana Sena’s core principle seems to be compare and complain of BJP’s divide and rule policy. The lack of research in compiling the press note is visible.

To set the context, centre asked the state governments to buy the chilli at market intervention price(MIP) of rupees 5,000 per quintal till May 31 with an overhead charge of rupees 1,250. The State Agencies can procure maximum of 88,300 MTs of Red Chilli in Andhra Pradesh and 33,700 MTs in Telangana under the scheme. In Andhra Pradesh, Chilli production increased from 7.93 lakh MT last year to 9.22 lakh MT this year. In Telangana, against an average of 2 lakh metric tonnes every year, nearly 7 lakh MT of chilli has been produced in 2016-17.

Instead of talking in terms of minimum support price like TDP-TRS or all other parties, Jana Sena demanded the BJP government to treat both the states equally. They demanded 88300MT to be purchased from Telangana also. While Jana Sena was asking centre to understand that there are lakhs of MT of chilli, the numbers shown are evident that Jana Sena needs better research before publishing a note.

The centre said highest quality chilli needs to be procured, what about the low or medium quality chilli? Jana Sena said MSP should be increased but did not say how much? Telangana farmers are not fighting with Andhra farmers but both the farmers are fighting against the governments. Telangana farmers are taking their produce to Guntur Market Yard. Jana Sena should rather come out of it petty-minded thoughts. Instead of raising questions about BJP’s nepotism, it is worth pondering why Pawan Kalyan doesn’t want to “question” Chandrababu or KCR.

TDP-TRS peeved with Centre’s intervention on Chilli prices

0

The masala that’s cooking in the Telugu states seems to be compete with the spiciness of the Mirchi itself. Centre on Wednesday announced it would buy the chilli at market intervention price(MIP) of rupees 5,000 per quintal till May 31 with an overhead charge of rupees 1,250. If there are any losses, it would be shared equally by the Central Government and the State Governments. But, the loss is limited to 25 per cent of the procurement price, including the permissible overhead charges. The State Agencies can procure maximum of of 88,300 MTs of Red Chilli in Andhra Pradesh and 33,700 MTs in Telangana under the scheme.

This intervention did not satisfy both TDP and TRS. BJP-ally TDP went easy even though it is not satisfied while TRS came down heavily on the government.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed discontent over the MIP. He said mirchi farmers should be given at least 8000 rupees per quintal. He stated that if the MSP is less than rupees 8,000 per quintal, the state government is providing a bonus of rupees 1,500. He wanted the central government to share the additional 1500 charge equallt. The TDP government decided to purchase 20quintal from each farmer giving a benefit of rupees 30000 to each farmer.

On the other hand, Telangana Irrigation Minister Harish Rao criticized the Centre for its delayed response and said that state government wrote a letter on March31 demanding purchase of chilli at 7000rupees. He termed the MIP scheme as “Joke of the Millennium”. He said the centre asked the state to procure only 33,000 MT of best quality Chilli at Rs. 5,000 per quintal while the state has 7lakh MT of chilli. The best quality is already fetching 6000 per quintal and questioned about the low-quality chilli. While Telangana is demanding 7000rupees per quintal, it is not offering any bonus like its counterpart AP.

If the woes are not addressed soon, farmer’s might follow Former Union minister Renuka Chowdhury’s suggestion to send chilli bags to the Chief Minister’s residence Pragathi Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Modi might spring surprise as Sonia unites opposition for President

0

BJP is known to spring surprises when it comes to naming its candidate in elections. The July presidential elections will probably be similar to the face-off between VV Giri and Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy in 1969. It is indisputable that a staunch supporter of Congress Pranab Mukherjee will not be given another term as a President. Unlike the US, India has no restrictions on the term of President. Except for VV Giri who was not only President but also an interim president, India never had same president for two consecutive terms.

As the country awaits surprise from BJP several names have surfaced. L K Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, Sushma Swaraj and Sumitra Mahajan are likely in the race. Even RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s name appeared. Advani mentioned that he is not in the battle. With the Babri case surfacing the chances for Advani and Joshi are bleak. However, there are chances that a Dalit candidate may be named as a President.

Narendra Modi may just pick Governor of Jharkhand Draupadi Murmu a tribal candidate from Odisha as the NDA Presidential candidate.

Congress is already in consultations with its allies about the candidate they will be nominating. AICC President Sonia Gandhi will probably organise a meeting with leaders of non-NDA parties to pursue plans for tapping a common candidate. The names of Deva Gowda, Sharad Yadav and Hamid Ansari surfaced from the opposition parties.

The Presidential elections are indirect elections done through electoral college. NDA is mighty in Lok Sabha but UPA has strength in Rajya Sabha. In such situation, the support of regional parties becomes crucial. The elected members of the Legislative assemblies of the 29 states and the elected members of the legislative assemblies of the Union Territories of Puducherry and Delhi are significant as BJP doesn’t have half way mark yet. The support of AIADMK, TRS, YSRCP and BJD are imperative now. Speculations are rife that the regional parties do not want to vote for a congress candidate.

The values of votes polled by MP is 708 while it is not equal for all MLAs in the country. Based on population and number of elected legislators, the vote value of MLAs is considered. In UP the vote value of an MLA is the highest at 209 while the lowest vote value is from Sikkim at 7. The vote value of TS and AP MLAs is 148.

President Pranab Mukherjee’s term expires on July 25,2017. It would be elevating if NDA proposes a non-politician as it did in 2002 by making Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

Telangana assembly passes amendment to Land Acquisition Act

0

The Telangana assembly on Sunday passed amendments to the Land Acquisition Act sent back by the Law Ministry, amid protests by the Congress demanding a discussion on farmers’ problems.

The amendments to the Telangana Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment Act, 2016) were passed within 10 minutes in a one-day special session of both the Houses.

The legislative council will meet later in the day to pass the amendments.

As soon as the assembly began its sitting, Congress legislators were on their feet demanding a debate on the demand for remunerative prices to chilli farmers.

Speaker Madhusudhana Chary, however, said the sitting was being held with the sole agenda of passing the amendments and no other issue would be taken up.

Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, also the Revenue Minister, moved the amendments passed by voice vote without debate.

Immediately after this, the Speaker adjourned the House sine die. The Congress legislators remained seated in the House even after adjournment for some time to register their protest.

Later, leader of opposition K. Jana Reddy told reporters that the assembly proceedings were conducted in an undemocratic manner.

He alleged that Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government was running away from debate on farmers’ problems.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also staged a protest near the assembly building to condemn the government’s attitude.

BJP and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members were not invited to the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the assembly on Saturday citing their suspension earlier during the budget session.

BJP members staged a silent protest. Wearing black scarves, they marched from Gun Park to the assembly premises.

BJP leader G. Kishan Reddy wondered how they could be prevented on ground of their suspension earlier.

BJP members were suspended on April 16 when they stalled the proceedings during the one-day special sitting called to pass a bill on increasing reservations for Muslims and Scheduled Tribes.

The Union Law Ministry earlier this week sent back to the state the Land Act for making “suitable amendments” to it.

The state legislature had passed the bill two months ago and the same was sent to the Centre for the President’s assent.

Political Conspiracies or clouded view of TRS?

The rampage at Khammam Chilli Market Yard this week and the incidents at Mallanna Sagar almost a year ago, both have a thing in common – the TRS government claiming that it is political conspiracy of the opposition parties. Both the cases come under the purview of CM’s nephew T Harish Rao who is the Marketing Minister and the Irrigation Minister of the state.

In both the cases, unidentified men were held responsible and the government has details of the case against the people behind the acts. Kodandaram was arrested and opposition parties were blamed for conspiring against government

TRS alleged that the Congress leaders stooped to filing cases with forged signatures in the name of deceased farmers of Singaram and Vemulaghat villages. On other hand TRS leaders, said that the Minimum support price will be decided by the central government. BJP rubbished the claims and said that AP government sought centre’s assistance to stabilize prices during fluctuations, but the Telangana government has been refusing to use this scheme.

The police took over the place in the two incidents. Outcasts especially political parties trying to enter the village or market Yard were not allowed. As the tensions built up at Mallanna sagar, in August, section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code was enforced in the Vemulghat village. Likewise, In the Khammam Commissionerate, 144 section is in force from today.

Last week Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister SomiReddy ChandraMohan Reddy said that Telangana farmers are bringing Chilli from Khammam and Warangal to the Guntur Market Yard, because of the prices being offered by the CM Chandrababu Naidu.

It is worth pondering, if the villagers of Vemulaghat in Medak district who have been on a relay hunger strike for the past 330 days objecting against the Mallanna Sagar project, is a political conspiracy of opposition.

Chilli crisis: Destruction of Khammam Market yard a political conspiracy

0

The farmer friendly, Telangana government is facing the ire of the chilli farmers in Khammam. The Khammam market yard witnessed riot like scene as the unidentified men ransacked the market yard and causing extensive damage to the property.

They wrecked everything that they could get hold of, including air conditioners and ceiling fans, chairs and tables, windows and doors. The farmers who brought their produce to sell in the market, got agitated and burnt the chilli crop stock upon finding that the prices have fallen extremely. In the month of march, chillies were sold at Rs. 12,500 per quintal but due to increase in supply, it is now fetching as low as Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 4,500 per quintal.

After waiting patiently for their turn in hot summer for hours, the twitchy farmers set fire to the weighing machines on the yard premises. Apart from pelting stones on market yard office, costly equipment including computers and air-conditioned room allotted for e-National Agricultural Market (e-NAM) platform were also destroyed. Fear gripped the market yard as the police tried to calm down the farmers.

A report on the incident by district collector DS Lokesh Kumar added a conspiracy angle to the incident which is being investigated and criminal cases will be registered. Chilli purchases resumed after the incident in the local market yard. District collector ordered the police not to allow politicians into the market yard. He suggested that the purchases should be completed and farmers should be given fair price.

In Andhra Pradesh, Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu announced additional Rs.1,500 per quintal to every Chilli farmer, to help them cope with the low prices. However, Telangana government has not been responsive and turned a blind eye.

Responding to the incident TRS leaders including the CM termed the incident as a planned political conspiracy and artificial concern by opposition parties. Opposition leader K Jana Reddy said the episode was unfortunate, and it was high time for the government to take up relief measures. Other opposition parties including TDP and BJP attacked the TRS government for their poor governance and demanded immediate action.

TJAC Chairman Kodandaram arrested again

0

Telangana Chief Minsiter K Chandrashekar Rao chose silence when facing students, on the other hand tried silencing the Professor Kodandaram. The TJAC chairman along with other leaders who were visiting the Khammam market yard to highlight the problems of the farmers were detained by the police. Police have allegedly said that they were arresting following the orders from their superiors.

Earlier in the day, Kodandaram had to face groups of angry TRS members who raised slogans demanding the professor to leave at Mothkur and Suryapet market yards. The CM has been taking up oppressive measures especially with a section of the state. This is second arrest of the professor in last two months. It’s high time for the TRS government to ease the level of suppression especially of the voices that are questioning them.

Both OU students and the TJAC were all part of the Telangana movement. Even if they don’t get the due credit, at least let them protest peacefully. The relationship with Professor Kodandaram has been bitter for a long time now. However, KCR’s silence at OU centenary celebrations reveals the facts about his souring ties with the student community.

KCR harps on the same string on TRS formation day

0

The city of Kakatiyas was dressed in pink on the eve of 16th anniversary meeting of TRS. There ends the excitement, rest the party formation day which was given much hype lacked luster. The idea of Gulabi coolie days faced backlash from opposition and many political observers. The income earned was not realistic. Even the plenary session was a low-key affair despite the arrangements being overseen by KTR himself.

The Tractor rally which was supposed to draw public attention, in broad daylight saw several leaders including Cabinet Minister breaking the Central Motor Vehicle Rules by driving tractors on national highway and on outer ring road. Pictures of TRS workers drinking alcohol on these tractors surfaced as well. Apart from this the pink party hired TSRTC buses to transport its cadre leaving people stranded in bus stations.

Try blaming it on scorching heat, because KCR couldn’t get a resounding applause or active response from the audience. The session was same old story one would have heard innumerable times. KCR’s speech was confined to scolding Congress leaders of united Andhra Pradesh and highlighting flagship programmes by the TRS government. As always, the address saw the mention of the programmes – Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, self-sufficient in power, goats and sheep for golla kurma, saloons for Nayi Brahmins, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak, KG to PG, farm loan waiver, and the latest entrant free fertilizers. The trademark declaration that he will not rest till ‘Bangaru Telangana’ is achieved. The TRS party president dint speak anything new or even tried to dig up any old good memory. As always, the leaders of TRS sang praises for KCR.

If they had nothing fresh to do, at least they should have given due credit and enough limelight to Osmania University centenary celebrations by keeping this meeting a low-key affair. In Telangana struggle without OU and students, TRS would have been just another political party. It is whacky that the government instead of giving due share to OU, tried to steal limelight and then played the same old song.

Telangana urges Centre to link MGNREGA to agriculture

With the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) creating shortage of farm labourers, Telangana on Friday urged the Centre to link the scheme to agriculture.

A resolution to this effect was passed at the plenary of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at Kompally on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Chief Minister and TRS President K. Chandrasekhar Rao moved the resolution during his inaugural address and it was passed unanimously.

He said he would raise the demand during a meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi on Sunday.

Rao said the MGNREGA was creating shortage of farm workers during the crop season, causing problems for farmers.

He said while the central scheme proved beneficial and many works were undertaken, it also led to problems for farmers as they were not getting workers to work in fields during the crop season.

If the MGNREGA was linked to agriculture, the labourers under the scheme can be used for farming.

A Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)-KMPG report in 2015 said that schemes like MGNREGA have affected farm labour adversely in the country and can have a negative impact on productivity and prices.

According to the report, rural wages grew on average by 17 per cent since 2006-07 and outstripped urban wages while productivity has not increased.

It found that between 2004-05 and 2011-12, farm labour declined by around 30.57 million while the total size of the workforce kept rising.

The share of agri workforce during the same period declined from 56.7 per cent to 48.8 per cent.

K Chandrasekhar Rao Re-elected as President of TRS

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was on Friday re-elected as the president of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the party he formed in 2001.

Telangana’s Home Minister and election officer Nayani Narasimha Reddy announced that Rao was unanimously elected as the party president, ahead of the party’s 16th plenary which began in Hyderabad on Friday.

The party leaders and workers, who were present at the press conference held by Reddy at Telangana Bhavan (TRS headquarters here), raised slogans and distributed sweets as Rao’s election was announced.
Rao, who was deputy speaker of the then undivided Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly when N Chandrababu Naidu was Chief Minister, quit the TDP and formed the TRS in Hyderabad in 2001 to fight for a separate Telangana state.

Riding on a wave of support in the 2014 Assembly elections, Rao became the first Chief Minister of Telangana on June 2, 2014, the day the state came into existence.

As per the election schedule, the process of filing the nominations for the party president’s post began on April 14 and continued till April 18.

The nominations were scrutinised on April 19 and yesterday was the day for withdrawl, he said.
The state Cabinet ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, zilla parishad chairpersons, chairmen of state-run corporations, heads of agriculture marketing committees and presidents of district party units submitted separate sets of nominations for the post of party president, Reddy said.

“Total 12 sets of nominations were received. There was only one name, of KCR, in all the 12 sets. Our leader KCR’s name was proposed unanimously. All filed nominations seeking leadership of KCR,” he said.
The TRS is holding its plenary on Friday and would organise a massive public meeting on April 27 in Warangal.

Muslims need reservations to bring them out of the vote-bank menace

Telangana is witnessing different perspectives on the Muslim reservations bill. The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination hosted by the United nations postulated (in Article 2.2) that affirmative action or reservations programs may be required of countries that ratified the convention, in order to rectify systematic discrimination.

Seven decades into independence instead of realizing Minorities as an integral part of the country they are still being considered as vote-bank. Congress and Communist parties managed to ensure to uplift minorities to a certain extent. BJP’s behavior in TS assembly during the passage of the Muslim reservation bill clearly displays the party’s future perspective. It is paving way for partisan politics. The saffron party called the move an attempt to pander to minorities. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said it would be akin to creating “another Pakistan”.

The general Muslim aversion to the BJP still runs deep, evident from the voting pattern. Muslim vote-bank across the country did not vote in favor of BJP in the 2014 elections. Likewise, TRS did not have any alliance with Muslim parties and it lost in the places where Muslim voters are in majority. In the GHMC elections, TRS swam alone and could make their candidate as mayor. Neither in GHMC elections nor in Assembly elections did the Muslim vote bank support TRS. Despite the aversion, KCR went ahead in implementing the promises made in his election manifesto. In all his 179 speeches during elections, KCR mentioned about the Muslim reservation and subsequently is implementing everything as promised. But BJP is tagging it with religion.

The beauty of democracy is that all the people need to be treated equally by the party that comes to power. The government is responsible for the welfare of all the communities. From the very first elections not even one party received 40 percent voters support except for once. Leaders are forming government with votes polled by merely one third of the voters. However, all the leaders have been delivering their responsibility to all voters including the two fractions which did not vote. India has never witnessed a party favoring only a segment of its voters. But now the saffron party paved way to work only for the people who voted for them. It would be mockery of democracy if only those who voted will be given preferential treatment.

Muslim progress is not considered by the ruling BJP, all they speak is about protecting them. Even the leaders of their party in respective states are displaying the same attitude. BJP could get seats without alliance at the center and recently in UP. But it is known for its Hindutva affiliations. From past three years, instead of trying to shed the image, it has taken the route of constantly propagating that the minorities are trusting them. It is now cleverly trying to make inroads into the Muslim community by virtually dividing it on the basis of gender. Injustice will stop only when they are allowed to progress by creating equal opportunities. The women whom Modi targeted need to be educated and this will come when they have reservations to grow with more opportunities and become self-reliant. Their representation in educational institutions and employment should be on par with their share in Indian population.
