Counter criticism with logical response: Kamal Haasan on ‘Mersal’

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan has come out in support of actor Vijays film “Mersal”, which has come under attack from BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu over references to the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Haasan said those opposed to the film must “counter criticism with a logical response”.

“‘Mersal’ was certified. Don’t re-censor it. Counter criticism with logical response. Don’t silence critics. India will shine when it speaks,” Haasan tweeted on Friday.

Vijay has been panned for his dialogues in the film that takes a dig at GST and digital India. The actor, who had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during electioneering ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, had even lauded demonetisation last year.

Earlier, BJP’s National Secretary H. Raja on Twitter raked up Vijay’s Christian origins.

“Joseph Vijay’s hatred for Modi is ‘Mersal’,” Raja posted on Friday.

Referring to the actor’s dialogue in the movie, Raja tweeted that in the last 20 years, 17,500 churches, 9,700 mosques and 370 temples were built. Out of these what should be avoided to build hospitals, Raja posted.

Raja even said “Mersal” shows Vijay’s ignorance in economic matters as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is not a new tax and the tax on liquor is over 58 per cent.

Besides him, Tamil Nadu BJP President Tamilisai Soundararajan demanded removal of the dialogues relating to GST, digital payments and temples from the movie as they spread a wrong message.

She also wondered whether Vijay had asked his fans to distribute milk to poor children instead of pouring it on his cutouts erected outside the theatres.

Tamil actor Vijay’s Diwali release “Mersal” has come under attack from BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu, one of whom has also sought to give a communal twist by raking up the actor’s religion.

The actor has been panned for his dialogues in the film that takes a dig at GST and digital India. Vijay, who had met Narendra Modi during electioneering ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, had even lauded demonetisation last year.

However, on Friday, BJP’s National Secretary H. Raja in a tweet raked up the actor’s Christian origins.

Tamil hero Vijay and his team of “Mersal” wanted to release the Telugu version “Adirindhi” simultaneously for Diwali. But due to some unknown reasons, they couldn’t release the Telugu version, which has helped “Raja The Great” at the box office. It was circulated that a day or two-day delay is expected in Adirindi release but no follow up was given from the makers leaving fans disappointed.

But finally, Adirindhi movie release date has been confirmed by its presenters in Telugu. Movie buffs are going to enjoy the triple role of Vijay in Adirindhi on 26th Oct 2018. Inside sources revealed that they don’t want to hurry up the release and wanted to take sweat time as Tamil version received hit talk. They wanted the positive talk spread and Adirindi open houseful on release date in every theater.

Vijay’s Mersal has already crossed Rajinikanth’s Kabali first day record and going ahead to generate its own mark in Tamil record books. Even the last release of hero Vijay i.e Policeodu made good business in Telugu and same director Atlee has directed the hero for the second time in Adirindhi. Let’s hope Sharath Marar of North Star Entertainment who is releasing the film In Telugu stick to the release date.

Tamil biggie Mersal starring Vijay in the lead role took a fantastic start at the box office today. The film, which marks the second collaboration of director Atlee and Vijay, opened to packed houses in Tamil Nadu. In overseas, the action drama has set up a non Rajini record with its premiers.

According to the latest trade reports, Mersal has notched up $ 350 K ( Official number yet to be reported) from 130 odd locations in overseas. This is a sensational start considering the mid week release. Also, this is the highest premiers number for any non Rajinikanth Tamil film by a huge margin. The first weekend run is going to be crucial to decide the box office fate in overseas.

The film managed to secure mixed reports from premier shows. However, Vijay’s star power has helped it to take a strong start at the box office. We have to wait and see how well can the film sustain with this talk.

After directing Mahesh Babu in a spy thriller, filmmaker AR Murugadoss is gearing up to collaborate with Tamil superstar Vijay for the third time. The duo has delivered two blockbuster hits in the form of Thuppaki and Kaththi. It is learnt that they are reuniting again for a intense action drama laced with a strong social elements.

The latest update reveals that the project will start rolling from mid December. Murugadoss will commence the pre production in the next month. Mersal OS rights : Vijay sets up non Rajini record

Tamil star hero Vijay’s Diwali release is doing sensational pre release business in all areas. The action entertainer, we hear, has set up a non Rajinikanth record with its overseas rights.

Reportedly, the overseas rights of Mersal have been bagged for a whopping 3.5 Crores by leading distribution house ATMUS Entertainment in association with US Tamil LLC. This is the highest ever deal for a non Rajinikanth Tamil film in overseas. Expectations are quite high on this Atlee directional and the makers are planning a massive release on October 18th worldwide.

Ilayatalapathy Vijay’s Puli is postponed to October 1st 2015 from the originally planned date, September 17th. Producers, P.T.Selva Kumar and Shibu Thameens in their press release stated that post production work of the film is taking longer than anticipated and the delay in release is unavoidable to maintain quality. We gathered information that the CG work of the film is taking a lot of time to fine tune as the film has 2200 standalone CG shots in it. 2200 CG shots is highest for any film ever to be made in India. Puli is being directed by Chimbu Devan and Devi Sri Prasad is scoring the music. Sruthi Hassan and Hansika are paired with Vijay in this fantasy adventure. Sri Devi is playing a villainous role. SVR Media is presenting the film in Telugu.

She might not have tasted a decent box office success in Telugu but the talented and good looking Haripriya is in demand in Kannada films. Last year Vaarahi Vennalave (it means Ravoi Chandamama) starring Dinesh Atthakathi and her was a big hit. Director Shashidharan had this love story narrated differently and Haripriya says she fell for the story instantly. “He is fabulous, it is his first film. The minute he starts explaining the scene, you get excited and want to get into the character soon and easily. He has immense clarity and it is a love story that revolves around a girl Meera, can’t reveal much at this stage. There was lot of emoting more through expressions and eyes than dialogues. It is an extremely strong character and I am pinning hopes on this, only when this releases I will take up other scripts.”

The actor talks about the rest of the projects, she has five major releases in Kannada and one film in Tamil waiting to hit the screen. “Ugram was a big success in Kannada, released in 2014. After that there was no looking back, I signed Ranna (Attharintiki Dharedi), I played Pranita’s role. I am so happy that I got back to back hits. Bullet Bhasya is also a commercial film, Sharan is the hero and is headed for a July release. The songs have become popular here. Ricky has Rakshit Shetty as the hero, he is a director cum actor. This film however has not been directed by him. I have a double role, one as a naxalite and the other a soft one. The Naxalite has been presented not the way you’d see in an art film, it is a commercial love story. I have lost weight for this film and I am maintaining that. Ranatantra is in post production. It is a thriller and a love story, the director Adiram has blended thriller and love very well. Vijay Raghavendra is the hero. Right now I am shooting for Rajadhani 2 (Kannada) with Preetam.”
