Telangana Congress demands YSR memorial in Hyderabad

0

The Congress has demanded construction of a memorial of former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy here.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief A. Revanth Reddy made the demand after paying tributes to the late leader on his 73rd birth anniversary.

Revanth Reddy, along with former MP and Rajasekhara Reddy’s close friend K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former ministers Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, party’s national spokesperson Dasoju Sravan and others paid tributes to YSR by garlanding his statue at Panjagutta.

Revanth Reddy, who is also a member of Parliament, urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao to build a memorial for former chief minister YSR in Hyderabad.

“I request the chief minister to construct a memorial for YSR in Hyderabad on the lines of memorials built for former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao and former chief ministers N. T. Rama Rao and M. Chenna Reddy,” he said.

The TPCC chief said that if the present Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government fails to build a memorial for YSR, the Congress party will do it after coming to power in the state. He exuded confidence that the Congress party will come to power within a year.

Revanth Reddy also stated that YSR will rest in peace only after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi becomes the Prime Minister. He recalled that the late leader had the dream of seeing Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister.

Terming YSR a “great” leader, the state Congress president said they would continue to follow his ideals. He said YSR treated welfare and development as his two eyes and led Andhra Pradesh on the path of progress.

Vikramarka recalled YSR initiated many revolutionary welfare schemes like social security pensions, Rajiv Arogyasri and fee reimbursement for poor and weaker sections of society.

Mohammed Ali Shabbir said YSR will live in the hearts of people. He said the late leader took several measures for socio-economic development of minorities, SCs, STs, BCs, and farmers labourers will always be remembered.

The former minister recalled that it was YSR which provided reservation for minorities and extended financial assistance for overseas education of Muslim students.

Which YSR colleague will attend Vijayamma’s meeting?

0

YS Vijayamma’s proposed meeting with the former colleagues of late YS Rajasekhar Reddy on September 2, his 12th death anniversary, is making waves. There is a lot of curiosity about what, why and how of the meeting. Over 3000 persons have been extended invitations so far and Vijayamma is said to be personally calling up several colleagues of late YSR.

But, how many of the invitees will actually turn up for the meeting? This question is uppermost in the minds of the political pundits. Most of YSR’s colleagues and one-time followers are now different political parties. For instance YSR’s Chevella Chellemma (sister from Chevella) Sabitha Indrareddy is a minister in the TRS government. Another close colleague Pithani Satyanarayana is a key member of the TDP. Though Komatireddy brothers are still in the Congress, will they attend a meeting called by the honorary president of another party? As per Raghuveera Reddy, he has turned spiritual and is showing no signs of coming back to politics. YSR’s trusted lieutenants Vundavalli Arun Kumar is inactive in politics, while Rudraraju Padma Raju is in the TDP.

Two YSR associates, who are now very active in the TRS are said to be rejecting the invitation on the ground that they were sent a mere SMS and that there was no personal call. These leaders feel that by recalling their association with late YSR, they would not benefit his family in any way, but will end up losing personally. So, they have decided to opt out.

12 years is too long a time in politics. Even if they love YSR and cherish their time with the great leader, they feel there is no use attending the meet at this stage. The biggest problem for many of YSR’s former colleagues is that while her son is the chief minister of a neighbouring state, the daughter is a high stakes player in Telangana. They do not want to be seen in the company of YS Sharmila.

Celebrating YSR birthday as AP Rythu Dinotsavam

0

The Jaganmohan Reddy government has decided to make the distribution of welfare benefits a memorable event every year. Jagan is continuing his populist agenda even after 2019 elections with his vision mainly fixed to win 2024 polls. To get people’s attention to this, Jagan has decided to celebrate his father YSR’s birthday (July 8) as the Andhra Rythu Dinotsavam. The day will be held like a festival for distributing massive welfare benefits to poor people.

The YCP cadres are enthused greatly at the new concept of Rythu Dinotsavam. On this day, the welfare social benefits like Rs. 2,250 for the aged persons will be distributed. In future, the other benefits like crop investment assistance under Rythu Bharosa will also be given on this day.

CM Jagan has instructed the Ministers, MLAs and officials to effective inform the people how their government is giving top priority to their welfare. The YCP is doing far more compared to the TDP. The previous government gave just Rs. 1,000 for four and half years towards social pensions. But it was increased to Rs. 2,000 in the last year of elections. But YCP has increased it to Rs. 2,250 and it will be further increased by Rs. 250 every year till it becomes Rs. 3,000 by 2024.

Ganta along with ministers Palle Raghunatha Reddy and Pratipati Pullarao, today inaugurated the Gandikota utsavalu today to popularize the beautiful fort on the banks of river Penna.
