TJAC shifts its battleground to Social Media

The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), which was actively involved in Telangana statehood agitation by mobilising people in large number for its numerous mass movements, is now seems to be in a move to shift its battleground to Social Media.

After realising that their resources and mobilising capacities were constrained to fight against `anti-people policies’ of the TRS government, which is also a product of historic Telangana movement, they are now attempting to modify their strategies. While continuing their agitations on various issues, they have realised the importance of Social Media to reach out larger number of people.

TJAC President Prof M Kodandaram has now started imparting lessons to his activists on how to utilize social networking sites to reach out to more people. He has held a training camp for its district units’ conveners, coordinators and other members, on how to effectively use social media to educate people about their rights.

Kodandaram said social media is a potent weapon for the people’s organisations like TJAC to propagate their ideology relating to people’s issues. According to him, about 35 to 45 percent people in the society are using social media. More than one crore people in the State have accounts on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

“Nowadays, information is spreading speedily on social media than print and electronic media. Hence, we should all possess practical know-how about social media to widely publicise our activities,” he added.

He asked the TJAC members to learn how to post the organisation’s videos on Youtube and WhatsApp. During the training camp, computer experts and bloggers demonstrated the basic skills that are needed to reach out to more people through the internet. The TJAC, which is already using messenger services like WhatsApp to create awareness among people on various issues, is also making efforts to bring out a magazine.
