Who decides if this Mithai is sweet?

The below tweet made us think. Prashant Kumar is a new entrant to the industry and made quite an effort to make Mithai. His friends Rahul Ramakrishna helped him with the dialogues and other friends worked with him to make the film happen. So far so good. The trailer also created interest and irrespective of his credentials, the fact that it is a dark comedy will definitely have the young generation checking it out at the theatres. How far is the debutant correct in posting such an arrogant and an over confident tweet? He might have self financed the project but a producer definitely needs a distributor. It is very necessary to stoop to conquer or at-least make your presence registered.

There have been distributors approaching this talented director but he is reportedly quoting insane price for their areas. He needs to understand the ground reality and if Rahul and Darshi are strong enough to pull people to the theatre. Appreciation for talent is one thing and making a person buy a ticket is something else. For a small comedy movie like this which is banking on the genre, story and actors it is important that Prashant doesn’t get into a stubborn mode and more importantly tweet in such a condescending manner. Every director thinks he has a master piece and every Friday decides if his future is in his control. We learn by mistakes but it is also better if we learn from someone else’s mistakes.

Mithai could undoubtedly be a masterpiece but when he gets someone to buy it, shouldn’t he be wise in giving it away for something reasonable. When people don’t approach, most new directors rue that the industry doesn’t encourage them and real talent has no takers and business. All films can’t be an Arjun Reddy or RX100, there are examples of Natakam, Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayulu etc as well. Regular distributors won’t come and if at all someone is approaching, the director should capitalize on them. A newspaper has value only till 6AM and after that no one reads it.
