Vijayawada: Senior Congress leader Devineni Nehru on Thursday joined Telugu Desam Party in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu at a public meeting organised in Vijayawada.
Speaking on the occasion, Nehru recalled his earlier association with Chandrababu Naidu when both the leaders conducted canvasing during 1991 elections in Krishna district and, subsequently, the TDP happened to win two seats.
“We don’t know why we parted ways after that, it is still unclear why we maintained distance in our political career,” Nehru said referring to himself and Naidu.
Nehru said that some hurdles were created whenever both of them wanted to meet and merge again. “But now the day has come after a long wait,” he said.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, son of Devineni Nehru – Devineni Avinash said that TDP party founder N.T Rama Rao had given an opportunity to his father Nehru by welcoming him to the TDP.
Avinash exuded confidence that State has nothing to worry until Naidu continue at the helm. If the State is prosperous, Chandrababu Naidu should take the credit for developing it, Avinash said.
Praising TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh, he said that Lokesh is an inspiration for the youth in the state. Devineni Avinash expressed confidence that the TDP flag would continue to flutter in the Krishna district for another 30 years.
