Clash of power dues: TS fires a counter letter to AP

The scuffle between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state over electricity bills has taken a new form, with letters being used as weapons. The CMD of TS-TRANSCO, D Prabhakar Rao in retaliation has written a letter reminding AP government about the rupees 1676.46 crore due and asked them to pay the sum immediately. He even notified that if AP fails to pay the dues, TS will stop power supply to AP. Furthermore, in the letter, the CMD requested permanent and amicable settlement of the issues between two Telugu states. He alleged that several letters have already been addressed to AP, to pay the dues from the newly formed state. He stated that TS Power Utilities are facing severe financial constraints as AP Power Utilities have not cleared their dues.

Likewise, AP government has already issued notices to the Telangana discoms, to pay dues 3138 crore rupees and allegedly stopped power supply two days ago. Consequently, the TS government issued a counter notice to the AP on Thursday.

After the bifurcation of the state, the center divided the power generated in thermal power plants to both the Telugu states. AP was given 43.11 percent while TS will use 56.89 percent. TS will receive 1200 MW of electricity per day from AP, while it will supply 800 MW to AP. Due to power deficit in the newly formed state, additional 400MW of power is being supplied to Telangana for which rupees 3138 crore dues have to be paid. Both the governments accuse each other of ignoring the several notices and failing to pay the dues. The Telangana government also is not giving in and has responded strongly to AP notices.
