The unrest in the Hyderabad Central University on Saturday rocked the Telangana Assembly leading to the adjournment of the House. The house witnessed noisy scenes when the Opposition Congress and MIM demanded that their adjournment motion be taken up immediately suspending the question hour. But, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao suggested that the government was ready for the a discussion and the matter could be taken up as part of the debate on the demand for grants by the Home department.
Expressing anguish at the death of HCU research scholar Rohit Vemula, the matter definitely warrants a discussion in the house and the government was ready to the listen to the views of Congress, MIM and BJP. ” You can speak on the incidents of HCU and OU. But, let the house take up the listed business first and later we can have a thorough discussion on the incidents of the universities. If necessary we can have extended debate also, ” the CM said.
Stating the Rohit should not have taken the extreme step, the CM deplored the attack on the car of Congress MLA Sampath. Congress members attended the House wearing the black badges. The CM said the Police had not received any complaint regarding the attack on Sampath.
However, Opposition leader K Jana Reddy, MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi insisted on taking up the matter in view of the gravity of the situation in HCU. Jana Reddy reminded the house how earlier CM announced in the House that house would take up the issues on priority basis. ” We think the HCU issue is a serious issue and should be taken up postponing other routine issues,” the opposition leader suggested
In the meantime, MIM members rushed in to the well raising slogans. When Akbaruddin accused the state government of committing injustice to the Dalits, chief minister KCR took strong objection.
He said Akbaruddin ‘s remark that the government was not doing justice to the Dalits was an objectionable. ” The member should be clear in his demand instead of maligning the government,” he suggested.
He asked the MIM members to resume their seats. As the commotion went on deputy speaker Padma Devender Reddy adjourned the House twice today.
