Human Chain at Parade Ground following Dharna Chowk protests

TRS government is unequivocal about changing the landscape of Hyderabad to make it Vaastu Complaint. This includes Secretariat, Pragati Bhavan, Dharna Chowk and Parade grounds. In an impromptu protest, today at Historic Parade ground sportspersons, walkers and others gathered to form a human chain against the state government’s decision to build a new Secretariat on the premises. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is avoiding the old secretariat due to Vaastu Dosha.

The centre which is likely to give approval for the construction of a new state-of-the-art Secretariat complex, will be given 150 acres of land in the outskirts of the city instead of the Bison polo ground. Secunderabad Cantonment celebrated independence on 15 August 1947 at the parade grounds while the rest of Hyderabad joined Indian Union after Operation Polo in 1948. The KCR government is not only occupying the land of significance, but also is planning to demolish the current secretariat which belongs to the Nizam Era.

This is not first such change by TRS government. Last week witnessed protests over Dharna Chowk. The government issued an order to change the land-use of NTR stadium near Indira Park for building of the Telangana Kala Bharati touted to be a cultural centre for the city. No alternative provision for playground has been made. The presence of Dharna Chowk will cause a hindrance for Kala Bharati where apparently, VIPs will visit. TRS tried to portray that locals want the Dharna Chowk to be moved but however mufti police acting as residents were a huge embarrassment for the government.

One such successful move by the Chief Minister was the construction of Pragati Bhavan or the office cum home. The government is making such colossal changes by ignoring both public concerns and the heritage of historically significant city of Hyderabad.
