Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has expressed strong displeasure over delays in the preparation of estimates for canal maintenance works. During a video conference with senior officials, including Engineer-in-Chief Narasimha Murthy and chief engineers across the state, the minister made it clear that negligence will not be tolerated.
He questioned why estimates for works scheduled in April and May were still pending. He pointed out that such delays were common in the past but insisted that the current administration will not follow outdated practices. Officials have been directed to submit all estimates by Sunday evening. Those who fail to meet the deadline must report to the Amaravati Secretariat and explain.
The minister highlighted how poor canal maintenance in the last five years had severely affected farmers. He said the present government has taken up emergency repairs to ensure water reaches every acre.
Speaking on Polavaram, Ramanaidu said the project is progressing steadily. He reaffirmed the target of completing it by 2027. He also noted that the Governor’s visit reflects growing confidence in the project. Rehabilitation efforts for displaced families are also underway, with additional funding to ensure their welfare.
