Absolutely top knock from Rahane: Kohli

1

Virat Kohli was all praise for Ajinkya Rahane on Sunday after the latter’s 12th Test century put India in a commanding position in the second Test against Australia here. Rahane ended the second day of the Boxing Day Test on 104 off 200 balls, helping India take a lead of 82 runs.

“Another great day for us. Proper test cricket at its best. Absolutely top knock from Jinks @ajinkyarahane88,” Kohli tweeted after the end of the day’s play.

Rahane is captain of the Indian team for the rest of their four-match series in Australia as Kohli returned to India for the birth of his first child after the first Test.

He came in at no. 4, the position that Kohli occupies in India’s Test batting lineup, and shared partnerships of 52 and 57 with Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant, respectively.

Ravindra Jadeja then dropped anchor and the pair will start the third day on a partnership of 104. Jadeja himself ended the day unbeaten on 40.

India skipper Virat Kohli maintained his top spot in the ICC Test Rankings for batsmen which were updated on Friday. Cheteshwar Pujara has been able to retain his sixth position whereas Ajinkya Rahane moved up by a place and is currently at the eighth spot.

In the latest rankings update that also includes the Port Elizabeth Test, which England won by an innings and 53 runs to go 2-1 ahead in the four-Test series against South Africa, sees Ben Stokes equal his career-best second ranking among all-rounders after his knock of 120.

Stokes has moved back to the spot he had occupied in August last year while he is presently ranked 10th among batsmen and 29th among bowlers. Off-spinner Dominic Bess’s five-wicket haul in the first innings has lifted him 49 places to 62nd, while Curran, Jack Leach and Stuart Broad have gained one slot each in the bowlers’ list.

Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews has advanced eight places to reach 16th position after his unbeaten 200 in Harare helped his side win by 10 wickets in Harare to take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series against Zimbabwe.

The former Sri Lanka captain’s best ranking was third, achieved in August 2014, while he has also been among the top 10 among batsmen in ODIs.

Team India’s next assignment in Test cricket is against New Zealand where both the teams will contest in two matches beginning February 21.

Dhawan Receives More than Kohli from Revenue Share of BCCI

Captain Virat Kohli is among the highest grossers in endorsement deals, but his share of the tax-free spoils from the gross revenue of BCCI from international games in 2015-16 is slightly lower than his Delhi and India teammate Shikhar Dhawan’s.

While left-handed opener Dhawan has received 87.76 lakh, Kohli has pocketed Rs 83.07 lakh as his share, according to information on the website of the Indian cricket board on payments over Rs 25 lakh made in May.
The third highest in this category is Ajinkya Rahane (Rs 81.06 lakh) while in joint fourth place are Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma (Rs 73.02 lakh each).

The lowest amount has been secured by Varun Aaron (Rs 32.15 lakh). The players have also received their match fees for the three home series held last season – versus New Zealand, England and Australia.

Players have also been given the tax free portion of the cash award announced by the BCCI and Test ranking prize money that the Board has received from the International Cricket Council as well as a portion of retainers.

Senior left-arm paceman Ashish Nehra has received Rs 1.52 crore as injury compensation for IPL 2016.
Five former women cricketers, including Diana Edulji who is a member of the Supreme Court-appointed BCCI Committee of Administrators, have received Rs 30 lakh each as one-time benefit from BCCI.

The other four are Anjum Chopra, Neetu David, ShubhangiKulkarni and Sudha Shah. BCCI has also spent Rs 3 crore as land registration cost for the NPA in Bengaluru.
