Star hero’s silent film with Bhaagamathie director ?

    0

Pilla Zamindar fame director Ashok made a comeback after a long hiatus with Anushka’s Bhaagamathie. The woman centric film has been receiving good applause from all quarters. Now, all eyes are on Ashok’s next project.

Ashok was supposed to work with seasoned star Victory Venkatesh long back. However, the project didn’t go further beyond discussion stages. Reportedly, the talented director is now looking to revive the project after gaining confidence with the success of Bhaagamathie.

Reports suggest that Ashok has prepared an offbeat script for Venky and it will be a silent film. After fine tuning the script, Ashok is once again going to meet Venky for final narration.

So, it remains to be seen if Venky gives the nod for Ashok this time.

US box office : Chalo shines well, TCC falls flat

    2

Last Friday Naga Shaurya’s Chalo and Ravi Teja’s Touch Chesi Chudu released amid good buzz with a decent screen count in overseas.

    Chalo is a big hit

Chalo has set the cash registers ringing from Thursday premiers and notched up superb figures by the end of its first weekend. Surprising the trade circles, Chalo took a better start than Touch Chesi Chudu on its Thursday premiers with $ 93K. The film, with its positive word of mouth and decent reviews, collected strong haul on Friday ($ 136K)and Saturday ( $ 193K ) respectively. With Sunday collections ( $ 76K), the film entered the half million dollar mark and thereby emerging as a big hit in overseas.

All exhibitors and distributors are into profit zone by the end of first weekend.

Touch Chesi Chudu ends a disaster

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja’s Touch Chesi Chudu has fallen flat in its first weekend. After a lukewarm opening with $ 81K on premiers, the commercial potboiler couldn’t sustain at the box office due to the embarrassing reviews and poor word of mouth.

The film collected meagre figures on Friday and Saturday ( below $ 50K on each day) and disappointed the trade circles. By the end of Sunday ( $ 19K), the film has completely fizzled out and has been termed as a huge loss venture with an overall gross below $ 200K.

    Bhaagamathie joins the elite club

Anushka’s Bhaagamathie, which collected $ 870K in its first weekend, collected decent figures in the second weekend to join the elite one million dollar club in overseas.

Anushka now holds a unique record of having the first lady oriented film from South to feature in the one million dollar club.

Bhaagamathie Review – More Chanchala, Less Bhaagamathie

    Bhaagamathie Movie Review

    Anushka Shetty Bhaagamathie Review

    Telugu360 Rating : 2.75/5

Anushka is seen portraying two contrasting roles and what eerie similarities that connect both characters forms the film’s core point. The spooky trailer with spine chilling elements have set a high bar on the film.

The rich production values by UV Creations and the strong technical bravura are likely to be the selling points for this film which is directed by Ashok.

Let’s see if Bhaagamathie can emerge as the first blockbuster of 2018.

    Story :

To keep a check on the rising popularity of central minister Mr.Eeswara Prasad ( Jayaram) in his home state, central government deploys CBI joint director vaishnavi on special duty. Idea is to frame illegal cases on Mr.Prasad , who has cleanest image in the state. Chanchala ( Anushka Shetty) is a prisoner , whose past is an IAS officer who had worked as a secretary to Mr. Prasad , long term associated with him. CBI wants to interrogate Chanchala, convince her to lie against Mr.Prasad , so that they can proceed with filing cases againt him. In this process, CBI shifts Chanchala secretely to a decades old bungalow in a forest. Inside the bungalow chanchala starts experience horror with the ghost ( of Bhaagamathie ) to whom the bungalow belongs to.

Rest of the story is about Bhaagamathie’ background, chanchala’s experiences in the interrogation bungalow and how police deal with schizophrenic side of her. What is the curious case of Mr. Eeswara prasad is the real knee jerker.

    Performances:

Anushka Shetty rocks as Bhaagamathie in one scene she appears in that role. As Chanchala it is an easy task for her to portray the dual shaded role of an IAS Officer. Jayaram is cool as Mr. Eeswara Prasad, Murali Sharma is adequate as ACP. Prabhas Seenu, Dhanraj and Vidyullata Raman played comedy cops and are okay.

    Technicians:

This film belongs to technicians. First is the background score, and next is the sound design. S S Thaman takes all the credit for the good BGM. Also, R Madhi’s cinematography captures the mood well and his camera movements, angles are rightly done for horror scenes. Kotagiri’s editing is crisp except Shakti ( Unni Mukundan) ‘s scenes. Director G. Ashok has come up with novelty in script but end of the film fails to make a solid impact. Production values by UV Creations are grand.

    Analysis:

Bhaagamathie film takes off leisurely, sets pace once Chanchala ( Anushka) enters the Bhaagamathie bungalow. Once she enters the bungalow the horror themed scenes are engaging mainly because of audiography. Three four times across the film, audience will experience nice horror elements. With some inconsistent graph, movie reaches towards interval block. Anushka shows up as Bhaagamathie is a high point for the film. Her body language in this scene is a combination of Arundhati and Baahubali Devasena. Thus, by end of first half, though much of the story is not revealed, the right premise was set for second half. Only one song in the film ‘ Mandara Mandara ‘, which is pretty average and can be skipped.

But second half falls short of expectations in terms of horror. Bhaagamathie flashback is narrated verbally, where visual narration would have shown some impact. In addition, when audience are tuned to know more about Bhaagamathie , contrastingly Chanchala’s flashback with Shakti ( Unni Mukundan) sequences open. This is where screenplay failed. In Mid second half a superb twist happens, which is totally unexpected. However, the kick generated because of this twist lives shorter for audience. Sooner the film sets as only a political mind game. Audience might feel being duped at this point (not delving into this as it is a spoiler). Though director tried to cover the bases by explaining with two examples but it appears a forced. Then if we treat the subsequent twists as just a regular revenge formula ones, then the mind game revealed towards the end might be acceptable. However, lack of emotional backed story is the major drawback and gives less impact to the whole drama.

    Positives:

    • Sound design & Background score will literally enthrall you if watched in best audio equipped theatres
    • Anushka fits the role perfect
    • Jayaram character is good

    Negatives:

    • Entire thread involving chanchala – shakti is poorly written , spans across the film
    • The story takes a knee jerk twist (which initially appears good) deviates from horror genre , ends up as routine stuff
    • Concluding the core element as in-existent is indigestible

    Verdict :

Bhaagamathie is an average fare at best. First half has some nice horror thrill moments backed by exemplary Sound design and striking interval episode where Anushka has performed well as Bhaagamathie. As second half progresses, story takes an U-turn and deviates from horror genre to a typical political revenge mind-Game Box-office performance may depends on how well audience perceive these twists towards the end

    Release Date : 26th Jan, 2018
    Director : G. Ashok
    Music Director : S. Thaman
    Choreography : R. Madhi

Young director G Ashok shot fame with Nani’s Pilla Jamindar but soon the debacle in the form of Sukumarudu left Ashok with no offers. The young director after a huge gap planned a film with Victory Venkatesh which did not work out. Finally, he managed to impress Anushka with the script of Bhaagamathie. The film took five complete years to shape up and is finally hitting the screens on January 26th.

Bhaagamathie has been carrying decent expectations but no one has firm belief in the calibre of G Ashok. There are several speculations about the project that G Ashok has been named as the film’s producer but it the cinematographer Madhie who ghost directed this prestigious project. There are talks that Madhie along with the co-directors and his associates wrapped up the shoot and Ashok had to turn a spectator on the film’s sets. UV Creations loved the script but they were not sure about G Ashok’s capabilities to pump out huge money.

Ashok too was keen on directing the script because of which UV Creations played a nice trick. We have to wait till the Republic Day weekend for the film’s result and the impact Bhaagamathie will have on Ashok’s career.
