What is common between T MLA Chennamaneni and AP MP Kotagiri ?

1

Move over Telangana. If you have your absentee MLA in Chennamaneni Ramesh. Then Andhra Pradesh has its own absentee MP in Kotagiri Sridhar. Just as Chennamaneni, the Vemulawada MLA, spends most time abroad and interacts with the people of the constituency only through the virtual online mode, Kotagiri Sridhar, the Eluru MP, too is never seen in the constituency. He is either in Delhi or away from Indian shores.

There is however, only one difference. There are doubts about Chennamaneni’s citizenship, but Sridhar is an Indian citizen. Hence there are no legal wrangles for Sridhar unlike Ramesh.

Sridhar is the son of Kotagiri Vidhyadhera Rao. Kotagiri was a four time MLA and a minister for several times. Ahead of the 2009 elections, he joined the Praja Rajyam Party of Chiranjeevi. Later, he slowly faded out in politics. Vidhyadhera’s son Sridhar, who has international business interests, had contested from Eluru Lok Sabha seat on the YSRCP ticket and won the elections. Even during the election campaign, he hardly toured the constituency.

After the election, he did not tour the constituency even once. He is either in Delhi or abroad. His presence is only on social media. His team puts out social media posts off and on and that is the only way to know about what he is doing and where he is. Though the prestigious Polavaram project is being constructed in his Lok Sabha constituency, he is unavailable to address the relief and rehabilitation related issues.

Like most MPs from YSRCP, he is keeping away from the MLAs and is not in touch even with the key party workers. Locals say that the MP has already spent nearly a half of his tenure without even bothering to visit the constituency. He may very well complete his tenure by spending time abroad.

TRS MLA Ch Ramesh is a German citizen: Centre to TS High Court

0

In a jolt to ruling TRS in Telangana, the union ministry of home affairs on Monday submitted a document before the Telangana High Court stating that TRS MLA from Vemulawada, Chennamaneni Ramesh is not an Indian citizen but he is a German citizen.

It stated that Ramesh did not relinquish his German citizenship till date and had even travelled to Germany in December 2019 by using his German passport and made it clear that the usage of the German passport by the petitioner could be a solid evidence to prove that he still possessed the German citizenship.

Following this, the High Court, prima facie, opined that the document produced by the union government was against the MLA and asked him as to why he went to Germany on a German passport while claiming to be Indian citizen.

The court made this order while dealing with the petition filed by Chennamaneni Ramesh urging the HC to set aside the orders issued by the union home ministry declaring him as not an Indian citizen.

The ministry had also stated in its orders that Ramesh had obtained the Indian Citizenship in a fraudulent manner by submitting fictitious and false documents before the ministry.

Arguing the case before the HC, the counsel for Ramesh told the court that he had voluntarily relinquished his German citizenship very long ago. This has prompted the court to ask the petitioner if the German government had accepted his plea to relinquish its citizenship. The court has directed Ramesh to file a detailed affidavit providing information about his German citizenship status and its relinquishment. It later posted the matter to February 24, 2020 for further hearing while extending the stay on the orders of the cancellation of his citizenship by union home ministry.

The controversy over Ch Ramesh’s citizenship was going on since 2008.

He was elected as TRS MLA four times since then.

TRS legislator stripped of Indian citizenship

0

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday issued a fresh order cancelling Indian citizenship of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh.

Fresh orders were issued after hearing Ramesh, who had challenged the 2017 order cancelling his citizenship.

Ramesh’s citizenship was revoked on the grounds that he held citizenship of Germany and didn’t fulfil the norms while obtaining Indian citizenship in 2009.

Ramesh, re-elected to Telangana Assembly from the Vemulawada constituency last year, said he would move the Telangana High Court again. The MHA didn’t take the high court orders into consideration while issuing fresh orders, Ramesh said and added, he was confident of getting justice.

In July, the HC had set aside the MHA order and directed it to hear afresh Ramesh’s submissions and complainant Adi Srinivas, the Congress leader defeated by Ramesh in 2009 elections.

Ramesh’s citizenship issue is pending since 2009 when he was elected as the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate. He later joined the TRS and was re-elected in the by-election in 2010. He was elected to the Assembly again in 2014 and 2018.
