China stands by Pakistan on Kashmir

China has “reassured Pakistan of it’s support and commitment” and announced that it supported Islamabad’s decision to approach the UN Security Council in the wake of India’s decision to revoke Article 370 of its Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, media reports said on Saturday.

An official statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry after a meeting between visiting Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi here on Friday said that Beijing was seriously concerned about the latest escalation of tensions in Kashmir, The Express Tribune reported.

Qureshi, who arrived in the Chinese capital early Friday to hold consultations in the wake of India revoking special status of Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week, apprised officials in Beijing about Pakistan’s concerns and reservations.

“The Kashmir issue is a dispute left from the colonial history. It should be properly and peacefully resolved based on the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreement,” the statement quoted Wang as saying.

“China believes that unilateral actions that will complicate the situation should not be taken.”

Wang stressed that as all-weather strategic cooperative partners, China and Pakistan have understood and supported each other on issues concerning “our respective core interests”.

In a series of Twitter posts, Foreign Minister Qureshi said he thanked his Chinese counterpart for a meeting on a short notice.

“Today I had a strong and conclusive meeting with State Counsellor and Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi. Pakistan shares a bond of brotherhood with China as further evidenced in the meeting today where China reassured Pakistan of it’s support and commitment.

“China supports Pakistan’s repeated calls for peace and stability and we will work together to highlight the voice of Kashmiris to the world.”

Qureshi added that China was Pakistan’s friend that has long been trusted, and that friendship between the two nations was rock solid. He believed that China would stand up for justice on the Kashmir issue, reports The Express Tribune.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Friday called on India and Pakistan to resolve their disputes through dialogue and negotiations and jointly uphold peace and stability in the region.

Regarding Pakistan’s decision to downgrade diplomatic relations and suspension of trade with India, she said that Beijing noted relevant statement by Pakistan.

“The pressing priority is that the relevant party should stop unilaterally changing the status quo and avoid escalation of tension.”

Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s “Dangal” is on its way to becoming Bollywoods highest-earning film in China, with the movie already grossing over $ 3 million (Rs 21 crore) by the first half of the second day of its release on Saturday.

Aamir is one of the most popular Bollywood actors in China, and his other movies “3 Idiots” and “PK” have done roaring business here before.

“Dangal” — the actor’s latest project — earned Rs 15 crore on its opening day on Friday in China.

By Saturday noon, it earned 23.4 million yuan (over Rs 21 crore), according to trade insiders on the Chinese box office.

So far, “PK” is the only Indian movie to have crossed Rs 100 crore in China and it had done so in 16 days since its release.

It’s a mark which could well be surpassed by “Dangal” — a story of a gritty wrestler in India’s small town who trains his two daughters to become world-class wrestlers.

“Dangal” was released as “Shuai Jiao Baba”, which means “Let’s Wrestle, Dad”.

The producers said it would release in a record-breaking 9,000 screens in China, but as per trade experts, it has released in 7,000 screens out of the country’s nearly 40,000 screens. According to reports, one of the big cinema chains has not shown interest in the movie. Still, it is doing well.

“My boyfriend and I are planning to watch the movie (‘Dangal’). I am hearing great reviews about it,” Gu Xiaoling told IANS.

Other actors in the movie include Sakshi Tanwar, apart from debutantes Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar.

0

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who is on a visit to China for participating in the World Economic Forum meeting in Dalian and also to meet industrialists and prospective investors, has reached Shenzhen Sunday evening along with the delegation consisting of officials and non-officials that accompanied him.

Before leaving for Shenzhen, CM along with the T-delegation visited places of interest in Beijing, the capital city of China. Beijing, China’s massive capital has history stretching back three thousand years. Yet it’s known as much for its modern architecture as its ancient sites. The city among others has the massive Tiananmen
Square, the Great Wall of China and many more interesting places to see.

The CM with his team first visited the Tiananmen which is a large city square named after the Tiananmen gate separating it from the Forbidden City. The square contains the monuments to the heroes of the revolution, the great hall of people, the National Museum of China, and the Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall. Tiananmen Square is within the top five largest city squares in the world. It has great cultural significance as it was the site of several important events in Chinese history, according to CMO in Hyderabad.

The next visit is to the Great Wall of China. It is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-towest line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions. It is the largest man-made monument ever to have been built.

The Great Wall has on and off been rebuilt, maintained, and enhanced. The majority of the existing wall is from the Ming Dynasty. Other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration.

CM and his delegation team spent couple of hours to go round the two places. CM evinced keen interest to know details about these two places, their historical and modern importance and also elicited information about the tourist and other importance of these places.
