Karanam Balaram’s Chirala challenge

1

Senior TDP leader-turned-YSRCP MLA from Chirala Karanam Balaram is finding self in hot water. A diehard TDP man, he joined the YSRCP in the post 2019 political situation. Normally things should have been easy for a leader like Karanam. But, he is finding a very tough obstacle to overcome. The obstacle is Amanchi Krishna Mohan.

Amanchi has been Karanam’s traditional rival and has defeated him several times. He has his roots deep in Chirala constituency. He is also known as a mass leader. Even after losing the elections in 2019, people still flock to Amanchi’s residence to get their problems redressed. So, Karanam is finding an alternative power centre in the party. So, a dispute about who gets the party ticket in 2024 is a big question.

The YSRCP leadership has reportedly asked Karanam to shift to Parchur, which is dominated by the caste he belongs to in 2024 elections. But Karanam is said to be disinclined to shift to Parchur. Even Jagan is said to have suggested that Karanam should shift to Parchur.

However, Karanam’s biggest problem is that his politics have always been limited to Addanki and Chirala. Cultivating Parchur calls for lot of time and effort. Also he does not want to lose Chirala and Addanki. Hence, he wants to contest from Chirala only. It remains to be seen if the efforts of Karanam to contest from Chirala only bear fruit or he will have to shift to Parchur.

Which defector does YS Jagan like?

1

Who will YS Jagan prefer between two defectors? This is the biggest question being asked in the political circles of Prakasam district. There are two warring politicians who have their fortunes linked to Chirala. One is former MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan and the other is present MLA Karanam Balaram. Both are locked in a battle for supremacy.

Amanchi, who is from Pandillapalli village in Vetapalem mandal. He became an MLA in 2009 and then in 2014. The first time he had won as an independent, but the second time, he was a YSRCP candidate. However, he later shifted to the TDP. Ahead of 2019 elections, he had come back to the YSRCP to contest elections again. However, he was defeated by old warhorse Karanam Balaram. Though Karanam won, the real power lay in Amanchi’s hands as his party was in power.

But, Karanam turned the tables by joining the YSRCP. Since then, the battle for supremacy intensified between the two leaders. Karanam practically became the incharge of Chirala, but is being challenged at every step of the way by Amanchi. The latest fight is over the sarpanch post of Ramannapeta village. YS Jagan preferred to support Karanam Balaram.

Sources said that YS Jagan has asked Amanchi Krishnamohan to shift to the neighbouring Parchur assembly constituency. He has reportedly asked Amanchi to leave Chirala to Karanam Balaram and move to Parchur. He was told that he would be made in-charge of the Parchur assembly constituency and would be given in return for his sacrifice.

However, whether Amanchi, who has worked very hard in Chirala and cultivated his own cadre of supporters, will agree to this arrangement is not known. Will he relent or rebel? Will he silently move to Parchur and grab the MLC post? Let’s wait and see if Jagan’s formula works or not.

Karanam Balaram puts speculations to rest, joins YSRCP

0

Putting days of speculations to rest, TDP senior leader and Chirala MLA Karanam Balaram has finally decided to join the YSR Congress Party.

On Thursday, Balaram along with other TDP leaders left to Tadepalligudem to meet YSRCP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Speaking to media, the senior TDP leader said it was not an overnight decision but a well-thought one to quit the party in order to serve the people of Chirala.

Karanam Balaram was miffed over TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to admit into the party fold his arch rival YSR Congress MLA from Addanki Gottipati Ravikumar. As a matter of fact, Karnam Balaram’s followers and Ravi Kumar traded blows during a meeting in Ongole. Naidu was in the know of the bitter rivalry between Balaram and Ravikumar but miserably failed to pacify both the warring groups in Prakasam. The rivalry reached to such a level that it adversely impacted the party not only in Addanki and Chirala but also in Giddalur and Kandukur constituencies.

Balaram started his political career with the Congress Party when Indira Gandhi fielded him from Addanki in the 1978 elections after he had saved her from an attack in Ongole. .

Balaram joins the list of deflections from TDP to YSRCP ahead of civic body elections. Recently, former minister and two-time MLA Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao resigned from the primary membership of the TDP and joined the YSRCP in the presence of its president and Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office.

Dokka’s exit was followed by TDP leader and Kadapa’s strongman Satish Reddy, who challenged the supremacy of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in Pulivendula, quit the party expressing his displeasure over N Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership. In Prakasam, former MLA Kadiri Babu Rao quit the TDP and met Jagan Mohan Reddy to join his party. Kadiri Babu Rao, a close associate of Nandamuri Balakrishna and a Kapu strongman in Prakasam, was upset with the TDP high command for allotting the Kanigiri ticket he won in 2014 elections to former Congress leader Ugra Narasimha Reddy and shifted him to Darshi in 2019 elections.

One more TDP MLA to join YSRCP?

0

One more TDP MLA is all set to join the ruling YSRCP in a day or two.

TDP senior leader and Chirala MLA Karanam Balaram has reportedly took a decision to quit TDP and join YSRCP.

Balaram is learnt to have started ground work to join YSRCP and reportedly held ‘secret talks’ with Jagan’s relatives, who are minister Balineni Srinivas Reddy and TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy.

TDP MLA Vallabhaneni Vamshi already quit TDP and extending support to YSRCP.

Balaram’s exit will be a big shock to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu personally and TDP in Andhra Pradesh.

Despite Naidu making all the efforts to keep his flock together, YSRCP chief and CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy has undertaken aggressive ‘operation akarsh’ to weaken TDP by engineering defection of MLAs and MLCs.

TDP MLC Dokka Manikya Varaprasad Rao also quit the party recently and joined YSRCP.

Similarly, few other TDP senior leaders like NA Rehman, Kadiri Babu Rao, Sathish Reddy etc have joined YSRCP over the past one week or so.

Balaram is reportedly upset at Chandrababu for admitting Gottipati Ravi in TDP and since then he has been staying away from party activities.

Balaram’s exit at a time when the state is going for local body polls this month will deal a big blow to Naidu and TDP.

Clash of clans in Prakasham district kills two

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was infuriated by the killings in the backdrop of the clashes between the TDP MLC and MLA factions in Vemavaram in Prakasam district. He said that nobody has right to take law in hands and ordered DGP to immediately start the investigation and take subsequent action accordingly. The factions of MLC Karanam Balaram Krishna Murthy and Prakasam district Addanki MLA Gottipati RaviKumar clashed over personal feud.

As the incident unfolds, the supporters of Balaram – Gorantla Venkateswarulu, Anjaiah (48), Peraiah, Yoginati Ramakoteswara Rao (40), Muthyalala Rao and Veera Raghavulu were returning on two bikes after attending a marriage in Rajupalem village in Vemavaram. As the group reached the village intersection, Malempati Venkateshwarulu, Gottipati Maruthi, Shakamuri Sitaiah and 40 others allegedly attacked the people coming on bikes with sticks. As the bikes slowed down at the speed breaker, RaviKumar group sprinkled chilli powder, severely injured them with sticks and absconded from the incident site. The victims were initially transferred to hospital in Chilkaluripeta. But later as they were being shifted to Guntur for better treatment, Ramakoteswara Rao and Anjaiah expired.

RaviKumar, defected from YSRCP to TDP more than year ago. There has been a long-drawn faction vendetta, evident from the killings and bomb attacks between Gottipati and Karnam Family.

Balram’s son Venkatesh reacting to the incident said that RaviKumar is provoking people and said that the deceased, worked for TDP for three decades. He said the real custodians of TDP are being brutally murdered.

Following the killings, police have been heavily deployed in Ballikurava. They also apparently detained three people and the search is in progress in Vemavaram for the lawbreakers.
