Former Telangana TDP chief Ramana joins TRS

1

L. Ramana, who resigned as the Telugu Desam Party’s Telangana unit President last week, joined the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Monday.

Ramana took the TRS membership from party’s Working President K. T. Rama Rao at the Telangana Bhavan.

He, along wit his followers, will be formally admitted into the party at a meeting on July 16 in the presence of Chief Minister and TRS President K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Ramana, a former minister in united Andhra Pradesh, and a former MP, had resigned from the TDP on July 9. He had sent his resignation to TDP’s national President N. Chandrababu Naidu.

After receiving the TRS membership, Ramana said he decided to join the TRS at the invitation of Chandrasekhar Rao. He told reporters that he wanted to participate in the development of the state.

Ramana, who had been leading the TDP in Telangana since the formation of the state in 2014, said under the leadership of KCR, he would work to strengthen TRS and for the welfare of the peoples, especially the backward classes.

“I will use my vast experience of last 27 years to work for the state and the party,” he said. He feels that the political situation in Telangana has changed and the TRS is the only party which can safeguard the interests of the state.

Ramana later called on ministers Koppula Eswar and E. Dayakar Rao. They are understood to have discussed party affairs and the government schemes. Ensuing by-election to Huzurabad Assembly constituency is also believed to have figured in the discussion.

Ramana had met KCR on July 8 to express his willingness to join the TRS. The Chief Minister reportedly assured him that he will be given due recognition and political opportunity. He is likely to be nominated as the TRS candidate for the Legislative Council elections that are due in a couple of months.

He was one of the few leaders remaining in the TDP in Telangana. Several top TDP leaders switched loyalties to the TRS during the last seven years.

Ramana, a two-time MLA, had served as Minister for Textiles and Handlooms in undivided Andhra Pradesh in 1994-96.

He was also elected to Lok Sabha from Karimnagar in 1996.

TDP’s L Ramana to be TRS Huzurabad candidate?

Telangana TDP (TTDP) president L Ramana is all set to join the ruling Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) today (Thursday).

Ramana is expected to join in TRS in the presence of TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan on Thursday evening.

Ramana, a prominent BC leader from undivided Karimnagar district, has recently given indications of quitting TDP and joining TRS.

Raman’s joining in TRS assumes political significance in the backdrop of upcoming Huzurabad Assembly bypoll where TRS is pitted against Etela Rajender of BJP.

Huzurabad constituency falls under Undivided Karimnagar district.

Etela comes from Backward Classes as he belongs to Mudiraj community.

Ramana also comes from Backward Classes. This shows TRS party’s strategy to attract BCs towards TRS in Huzurabad and also to field Ramana against Etela.

Coming to TDP, which already lost its existence in Telangana, Ramana’s exit is not going to make any difference. But for TRS, Ramana’s entry will help to garner political mileage in upcoming Huzurabad bypoll.

TRS or BJP?: L Ramana in two minds!!

1

T TDP president L Ramana is in a dilemma. His dilemma is whether to join the TRS or BJP. Though he has an open offer from the ruling TRS ahead of the Huzurabad byelections, he is also said to be in touch with the BJP biggies in Telangana. He is said to be weighing all options before taking a plunge.

Those close to him say that the TRS has offered him an MLC seat and a minister’s post. But, Ramana knows that he would be a minister for just two years. After that, he is not sure of getting a ministry. Also, sources close to him say that he is apprehensive of how KCR would treat him after he joins the party. As someone who knows KCR very well, he is unsure of KCR’s treatment.

On the other hand, Ramana is said to be looking for settling his son in politics. He feels that the BJP could offer him some kind of guarantee. The party could make his son the MLA candidate and if he manages to win, he would have a fruitful political career. Sources say that the BJP has assured to give ticket to his son. Several top BJP leaders, who spoke to him, have reportedly given him this assurance. Hence Ramana is said to be vacillating. He is consulting his friends, associates and supporters about his future political moves.

Ramana has been steadfastly with the TDP even while most of his colleagues and co-travellers have joined other parties such as the Congress, TRS and the BJP. Though the party’s support base was continuously shrinking since 2014, he remained loyal to the TDP. If and when he leaves the TDP, the party would become history in Telangana.

KCR offers MLC post for TTDP chief Ramana!

TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is leaving no stone unturned to check sacked health minister Etela Rajender on his own turf.

Etela Rajender hails from Backward Classes and Karimnagar district.

Now, KCR reportedly making moves to lure Telangana TDP president L Ramana into TRS fold.

Like Etela, Ramana is also a BC leader and hails from Karimangar district.

With this move, he wants to send a message to BCs in general and BCs in Karimnagar in particular that he is not against BCs and removal of Etela should not be viewed as anti-BC stand of TRS.

It is believed that KCR had even offered MLC seat to Ramana in return to show that he always gives prominence to BCs in TRS.

Ramana, who is in political oblivion since bifurcation of AP and TDP losing its identity in Telangana since 2014, will get a fresh lease of political life by joining TRS and becoming MLC.

TDP, which is already on ventilator in Telangana will be washed away completely with the exit of Ramana, the lone noted leader of TDP in Telangana.

Ramana is expected to join TRS anytime soon.

Bumpy Road Ahead for Ramana in TS

It is a foregone conclusion that TDP and BJP will contest Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) polls in alliance at the end of the year against the alliance of TRS and MIM. Indicating the continuance of the existing alliance with BJP, TDP Telangana unit president L Ramana said the present understanding between the two parties would continue. ” TDP-BJP is a winning combination,” he said.

Talking to Telugu360.com , after the taking oath as the president of Telangana state unit, Ramana recalled that how the two parties had won the elections for Hyderabad civic body. “So, I am confident that it will be a cakewalk for TDP-BJP combine in ensuing GHMC polls, if the two parties join hands,” he said. Ramana represented Jagitya Assembly constituency and for some time he was handloom and textile minister. However, at the advice of Naidu, he contested Lok Sabha polls won the Karimnagar seat. Ramana revealed that it was he who had persuaded his party boss Naidu to align with the saffron party during the 2014 general polls.

“I was the first one to moot the proposal of alliance with BJP. I requested party chief N Chandrababu Naidu to forge an alliance with the BJP, before the 2014 polls. The TDP-BJP alliance worked well in those polls. Even in the GHMC polls, our alliance will be a winning hands down,” he said. Going down the memory line, Ramana said in the 2002 elections, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had won the Mayor post in a direct election in alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party which took the Deputy Mayor’s post. In the election, Ramana said, Majlis Ittehadul-e-Muslimeen (MIM) won 36 out of the 100 seats while TDP-BJP combine won 38 seats. Congress won 20. Of the remaining parties, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Majlis Bachao Tehreek won two seats each while Telangana Sadhana Samiti won one seat.

Coming from weavers community Karimnagar district, it will be an uphill task for Ramana to keep the yellow flag fly aloft given the TRS influence in the district. The soft-spoke Ramana has a non-controversial back ground which is not so a great virtue in days of money and muscle power. In a state where the TDP is being portrayed as the “Andhra Party”, rebuilding the Telugu Desam to expectations of party boss Chandrababu Naidu is not an easy task. But, a win in the GHMC election is bound to change fortunes of both the party and Ramana. Party’s working president Revanth and Ramana will supplement each other in what they amiss.
