Overseas BO report : PSV Garuda Vega shines in a dull week

PSV Garuda Vega Overseas second weekend report

Despite two releases last Friday, Rajasekhar’s highly appreciated film PSV Garuda Vega minted decent figures in its second weekend and is now heading towards touching the half million mark at the overseas box office.

The Praveen Sattaru directional, which registered decent collections in the first weekend, managed to hold on well and collected promising figures in the second week with $ 29K on Friday and $ 51K on Saturday. As of this writing, the film touched the $ 450K by Sunday. It may surpass the half million mark by the end of next weekend. The film has already crossed the life time figures of some of the notable recent films like Raja The Great, Vunnadi Okkate Zindagi and Raju Gari Gadhi 2.

Sundeep Kishan’s bilingual thriller C/o Surya started off on a promising note but managed only lukewarm figures by the end of first weekend. The film emerged as the biggest opener in Sandeep Kishan’s career with $ 50K from its premiers and Friday collections. However, it couldn’t better it’s run on Saturday and Sunday. The film managed to collect a total of $ 75K ( approx) by the end of Sunday.

Manchu Manoj’s Okkadu Migiladu is likely to end as a big disaster at the overseas box office. The film registered dismal figures in the first weekend and is likely to be a huge loss venture in overseas. By the end of Sunday, Okkadu Migiladu collected close to $ 4K.

‘ Okkadu Migiladu ‘ Review

Okkadu Migiladu Review, Okkadu Migiladu Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating 1.5/5

Surya (Manchu Manoj), a Srilankan refugee, fights for justice in 3 university girls’ death case. As minister’s two sons are involved in the case, to protect them, police arrest surya in a fake case. While in custody, Surya narrates his flashback to one good cop (Posani) out there.

Surya narrates the ordeal of tamil origin people in Srilanka. One of the heart-wrenching episodes is in which a group of tamil people from the island nation try to cross the sea and reach the Indian coast. However, they lose their way in the middle of the sea and face lot of difficulties.

Rest of the story is about the plight of the refugees in the boat and how Surya resolves the issue in India.

Analysis:

This film is an official remake of tamil film ‘Ravana Desam’, but it was not officially announced. Majority of the film’s visuals have been reused from Tamil film. In case of remakes, people do usually re-shoot the film. In this un-usual case, entire second half i.e. the entire boat journey scenes and action episodes from first half, are re-used from Tamil film. Only the hero character has been changed.

Okkadu MIgiladu is a kind of dark thriller. The interrogation scenes in first half are violent and the entire second half is crude and appalling. First half starts off in routine manner, but things turn a little interesting as Surya narrates how their village in srilanka suffered between LTTE and Government. However, the director couldn’t build a gripping story after this point.

Second half has too many tear-jerking episodes but it’s not fair to expect commercial elements. While we feel sorry for the refugees who are dying one after another in the boat, the over sentiment gets boredom beyond a point. This true story is narrated in a hard-hitting manner but it fails to capture the interest at any point in the film. Many scenes could have been censored. V.K. Ramraj’s Cinematography deserves special mention, particularly the boat sequences are well presented.

Performances:

Manoj Manchu got a different role(s) in this film. As Surya his dialogue delivery is OK, but as peter he is loud and diction lacks clarity. He looks bulky and needs to cut down his overweight to sustain. Aneesha Ambrose as TV reporter is adequate. Director Ajay played a very good as Victor.

Verdict:

On the whole, ‘ Okkadu Migiladu ‘ is a futile attempt to depict the ordeal of srilanka refugees who escape from srilanka to reach India. The refugees’ boat journey covers entire 2nd half and their fight with srilanka army is showcased in the first half. An overdose of violence, excessively sentimental scenes and lackluster narration make audience restless throughout the film.

After playing a rebellious Sri Lankan leader in his upcoming Telugu-Tamil bilingual “Okkadu Migiladu”, actor Manchu Manoj will be seen sporting a six-pack ab in his next yet-untitled Telugu project.

“He plays a boxer in the film. He’s currently learning MMA (mixed martial arts) in Phuket. Manchu had to gain a lot of weight for action-drama ‘Okkadu Migiladu’. He will shed most of it and even sport a six-pack ab for this film,” a source close to Manoj told IANS.

On Friday, Manoj shared a practice session video. “The only bad thing in MMA is kicking our master. Sorry guruji! But you are giving the best MMA training. Phuket diaries,” Manoj tweeted.

Manoj’s ‘Okkadu Migiladu’ release pushed to October

0

Actor Manchu Manoj Kumar’s upcoming Telugu-Tamil bilingual film “Okkadu Migiladu”, which was originally slated to release in September, has been postponed to October due to post-production work.

In a Twitter chat with his fans, Manoj revealed that the film’s release has been pushed to October first week.

When asked if the film is releasing on Friday, he said: “Release pushed to October first week. Due to the post-production work.”

Manoj plays two characters in the film, directed by Ajay Nuthakki.

While he plays a Sri Lankan rebel leader in the 1990s, he will be seen as a student leader in the present day.

He gained about 20 kg to play the Sri Lankan leader.

“The role of the Sri Lankan leader required me to look huge and overweight. Hence, I gained about 20 kg. After we finished shooting that portion, I went and shot for another film called ‘Gunturodu’. In the process, I lost 10 kg to return to this project to play a student union leader,” Manoj had told IANS.

The film has captured the tension in Ceylon in the 1990s as realistically as possible.

“The film is based on an untold true story. It’s a very emotional story and focuses on the lives of those (Eelam Tamils) who die tragic deaths during that period,” he said.

Gained 20 kg for ‘Okkadu Migiladu’: Manchu Manoj

0

Actor Manchu Manoj, who will be seen playing a Sri Lankan leader in his upcoming Telugu-Tamil bilingual “Okkadu Migiladu”, gained 20 kg to play his part and later shed 10 kg to play a role in another film.

“The role of the Sri Lankan leader required me to look huge and overweight. Hence, I gained about 20 kg. After we finished shooting that portion, I went and shot for another film called ‘Gunturodu’. In the process, I lost 10 kg to play a student union leader,” Manoj told IANS.

The film, slated to hit the screens in September, will release in Tamil as “Naan Thirimba Varuven”.

The story is set in two time periods — 1990 and 2017.

“We have captured the tension of Ceylon in the 1990s as realistically as possible. The film is based on an untold true story. It’s a very emotional story and focuses on the lives of those (Eelam Tamils) who die tragic deaths during that period,” he said.

Asked if his role is inspired from late LTTE chief Prabhakaran, Manoj said: “We haven’t used names in the film. Let it be that way. I play a very intense role and I’m proud to have accepted this project.”

Manoj says the film’s screenplay will be much talked about.

“Remember how ‘Rang De Basanti’ merged two stories set in different eras beautifully? We have attempted something very similar. I’m not saying we have copied the template,” he said, heaping praise on his director Ajay Nuthakki.

Films set against the backdrop of Sri Lankan war usually find themselves in controversies. Manoj says he isn’t worried about any kind of opposition.

“We are ready to screen our film when faced with any kind of opposition. We’ve merely recreated history. We haven’t taken sides or blamed anyone for what happened with the people in Sri Lanka. Thousands of people were mercilessly killed. The world needs to know such stories,” he said.

The film also stars Anisha Ambrose.
