Sridevi’s Cameo for Jhanvi Kapoor’s Film

Veteran actress Sridevi made her comeback after a long gap and is doing films in all the Indian languages. Her elder daughter Jhanvi Kapoor who has been a sensation across internet and circles of social media is making her debut with the remake of Marathi blockbuster Sairat. The movie has been titled Dhadak and the first look posters have been out recently. Ishan Khattar is the male lead and he is the brother of top actor Shahid Kapoor.

Sridevi wanted a grand launch for Jhanvi Kapoor and she is quite excited about Dhadak. The latest news we hear is that Sridevi has been asked to play a crisp role in the film as Jhanvi Kapoor’s mother. Though the role is brief, it is quite crucial and the makers felt Sridevi is apt for the role. The regular shoot of Dhadak will start from December and the film has been aimed for July 6th 2018 release.

Sridevi confident daughter ready to face Bollywood’s challenges

0

“Let me tell you, I feel like a newcomer,” Sridevi asserts, breaking into a giggle almost reminiscent from her ahead-of-times 1991 film “Lamhe”, even as she prepares to let her elder daughter loose in the Bollywood world. She says nothing comes easy in life, and she is sure her Jhanvi is ready to face the challenges.

Jhanvi, who is frequently followed by the paparazzi in Mumbai, will reportedly foray into films with a remake of Marathi hit “Sairat”.

Steering clear of divulging details about Jhanvi’s debut, Sridevi told IANS over phone from Mumbai: “She has chosen this path and profession, and I have been in this industry for long. So I am mentally more prepared than her. She has been watching me, and knows what she is getting into.”

“Nothing is going to be a cakewalk in any profession. So you have to work hard, and there will be challenges. I’m sure she is ready for it.”

The charismatic actress made a powerful comeback of sorts with “Mom” earlier this year — five years after her delightful plain Jane avatar in “English Vinglish”.

As “Mom”, which will soon release in Russia, nears its world television premiere on &Pictures on Saturday, Sridevi — who also has daughter Khushi — spoke about her worries as a parent.

“I’m of course worried when they go out, but luckily, they know their limits and they are very responsible children. When you have responsible children, half the battle is over. So, you don’t have to worry. But you are concerned. The concern will never go, and you’ll always be conscious about them,” said the 54-year-old.

Sridevi has been a big screen delight since her Bollywood debut with the 1978 movie “Solva Sawan”. But acting is something she started when she was all of four. In Hindi cinema, “Himmatwala”, “Mr. India”, “Chandni”, “Sadma”, “Nagina”, “ChaalBaaz”, “Lamhe” and “Khuda Gawah” are some of the films which established her footing as a performer who took woman power seriously.

The trait has continued with “English Vinglish” and “Mom” — in both of which she played the strong role of a mother effectively.

While most women actors in India complain about lack of roles for older actresses, Sridevi retorted: “Let me tell you, I feel that my career has just started, haan (giggles). I feel like a newcomer, and I feel that my career is going to start now. It’s not finished, it’s going to start now.”

She is also unlike many others — even much younger actors — who are putting their life story into books.

“Arre, maine kuch achieve nai kiya (I haven’t achieved anything), where I write about my story or my book. There’s a long way to go. There’s nothing, nothing like this,” she said, sounding almost ignorant, but humble, of the fan followers of her emotive power and fluid dancing skills.

At this point, she is just enthused to deliver more.

“There are definitely two films that are coming up, but it’s too early to talk about it. (There’s) Nothing I can say right now,” she said.

Over the years, Sridevi has not just embraced the changes in Indian cinema, but also opened up herself to an environment where celebrities — as opposed to her own shy self in her earlier days — need to go all out to promote her projects.

“Look, with the time, I have definitely opened up. I am definitely introvert and shy, and have never been rude to… I’ve definitely been shy, but thanks to my children, I have opened up. Somewhere, you have to change with the time.

“You can’t be like what you were… It doesn’t work that way. And do that (change) within your comfort, not by going out of it.”

That besides, she says a positive frame of mind, helps her look forward to what life has to offer.

“Be in a positive frame of mind, be happy, fulfil your goals, work hard… It never goes waste.”

Rajamouli Regrets His Comments on Sridevi

Responding to the controversy involving him and veteran diva Sridevi over Sivagami’s character in ‘Baahubali’, Rajamouli said that he regret to have talked about her on a public platform.

In an earlier interview, Rajamouli said that Sridevi couldn’t play Sivagami character as she had too many and too exorbitant demands. Reacting strongly to Rajamouli’s comment, Sridevi in another interview said that the ‘Baahubali’ director shouldn’t have spoken about her remuneration and other details on record. Besides saying that she was hurt by his comments, Sridevi denied to have made the demands allegedly divulged by Rajamouli.

In a chat with a leading national media house, the ace director said that he shouldn’t have discussed the details of approaching Sridevi and the following happenings on public platform, and that he regrets his mistake. Rajamouli went on to say that he has huge respect for Sridevi, who has been a flag-bearer of the Southern film industry in Bollywood for many years. He wished her all the best for ‘Mom’ and other upcoming projects.

When asked about Sridevi denying to have asked the high remuneration and other demands that he had divulged earlier, Rajamouli said that as both of their versions are now in front of people, they can decide whose version they want to believe.

Sridevi’s Response to Rajamouli’s Allegations

Veteran actress Sridevi, who had been avoiding the question of rejecting Sivagami’s role in ‘Baahubali’, and the subsequent outburst of Rajamouli against her in an interview, has finally opened up.

‘I am being asked the same question when I attend for interviews in Mumbai, Chennai or Hyderabad. I have rejected many films in the past due to my own reasons. They went on to become big hits. I thought they were not in my destiny. Neither I or any filmmaker talked about those films ever. I don’t know why it has become an issue in the case of Baahubali,’ Sridevi said.

Clarifying on her exorbitant demands, as revealed by Rajamouli, she said, ‘It is being alleged that I have demanded Rs 8 crore remuneration, an entire floor in a star hotel and 10 flight tickets to sign Baahubali, it is completely false. I wouldn’t have acted in 300 films if I make such demands”.

‘Rajamouli is a dignified and very calm filmmaker, I have huge respect for him. I think he was misinformed on my demands by producer. Anyway, he shouldn’t have talked about me in that manner on a public platform. I was really hurt when I saw his interview,’ she concluded.

Sridevi is currently busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Mom’, which will hit screens on July 7.

Veteran actress Sridevi, who will next be seen in upcoming film “Mom”, says her daughters — Jhanvi and Khushi — never liked their mother to sing a lullaby for them as she has a “bad voice”.

Sridevi appeared on children’s singing reality show “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs Season 6” to promote “Mom”.

“Whenever I would read them (Jhanvi and Khushi) a bedtime story, they’d never sleep, but when I would sing them a lullaby, they’d immediately fall asleep as I have a bad voice and they wouldn’t want me to sing any further,” Sridevi said in a statement.

She further said her daughters are “sensible kids” and have never given her a chance to be strict with them.

“I am more like a friend to them than their mother,” she said.
