KCR is no more ’employee-friendly’!

1

The KCR-led TRS government in Telangana was once known as ’employee-friendly government.’

This is because, soon after KCR assumed office as CM for the first term in June 2014, he announced several sops to government employees as a thanks-giving gesture for their active participation in Telangana statehood agitation, for strongly supporting TRS during statehood agitation which played a key role in building pressure on then UPA government at the Centre to bifurcation Andhra Pradesh and grant statehood to Telangana.

KCR announced highest fitment (salary hike), special Telangana increment and cashless and limitless medical treatment for employees.

However, all this image of KCR being employee-friendly has become a thing of past now.

After becoming CM for second term in December 2018, KCR started taking a ‘tough stand’ on state government employees.

He did not announce new Pay Revision Commission pay scales, Interim Relief for employees as promised.

He labelled revenue staff as ‘corrupt’ and threatened to abolish the revenue department.

KCR dismissed over 48,000 TSRTC staff at a single stroke after they went on strike on October 5.

KCR adopted a tough stand on RTC strike due to which the RTC staff were forced to call off their strike after 47 days without achieving any of their 26 demands.

KCR has now decided to privatise RTC to end monopoly of RTC employees.

KCR continues to trouble RTC staff by not taking them into jobs even after they announced withdrawal of strike.

Other employees unions like TGOs, TNGOs which theatened to go on strike on various demands, have now became silent after seeing the plight of RTC employees due to the tough stand taken by KCR on their demands.

Employees unions, which once used to believe KCR and TRS government as ’employee friendly’ are now shivering with the very mention of KCR’s name.

AP’s loss becomes Telangana’s gain: Singapore

0

Almost all the policies of Jagan Reddy Circar are driving away international investors and industrialists away from Andhra Pradesh. He necked out the Singapore companies from the Amaravati Start-Up Area Development Project. Now, that Singapore government is promoting its companies to set up industries in Hyderabad surroundings. On its part, the KCR government is rolling out red carpet to these companies whom Jagan Reddy harassed and hounded.

Not surprisingly, Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao says that Singapore is an ideal and inspiration for Telangana. He is welcoming Singapore companies with open arms to make investments in their state. All the necessary approvals and facilities will be provided in a transparent manner. Singapore Consul General Pang Kak Tiyan led a delegation of his country investors and met KTR in Hyderabad.

While Singapore is ideal for KTR, it is undesirable and hateful for Jagan Reddy Circar. Singapore is known for its global standards in terms of technology, innovation and development. Just because Chandrababu Naidu promoted that country, YCP boss summarily tarnished them and dismissed them. No new multi-national and no global giant is daring to look towards AP now. Construction industry and real estate are booming in Telangana but they have fallen flat all over Andhra with no hope of recovery under Jagan Regime.

TSRTC JAC likely to call off strike today!

0

TSRTC employees and workers who are on strike for the past 46 days are likely to call off their strike today.

TSRTC JAC has convened a meeting of various RTC unions at 5 pm today in Hyderabad to take a decision on the strike.

There is pressure on JAC leaders to call off strike from employees and workers especially after Telangana High Court making it clear yesterday (Monday) that it cannot give any directions to Telangana state government on RTC strike and referred the issue to the Labour Commissioner.

The Labour Commissioner has been directed to hold talks with RTC unions and resolve the strike within two weeks.

The Labour Commissioner will take a decision on referring the case to Labour Court, if talks with RTC unions fail.

Looking at these developments, RTC employees lost hopes that their demand would be met and are also worried that it may take more time if they continue to approach courts on this issue.

They already lost two months salary and with November also coming to an end, they would lose salary for the third month also. They are not in a position to lose their salaries anymore due to financial problems.

They realised that there is no scope for Telangana CM KCR softening his stand on RTC strike and he wants to fight this case in courts for any amount of time, if employees continue strike.

In this backdrop, the JAC leaders reportedly decidedly to call off their strike today.

Telangana Labour Commissioner asked to decide on RTC strike

0

The Telangana High Court on Monday directed the Labour Commissioner to take a decision, within two weeks, on the 45-day long strike by the employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice R. S. Chauhan asked the Labour Commissioner to decide whether to move the Labour Court or not.

Reiterating that the High Court can’t decide whether the strike is illegal or not, the bench observed that the Labour Court has power to do so.

The latest order is being seen as a shot in the arm for the state government in the 45-day long standoff with the striking employees. While arguing that the strike is illegal, the government had urged the court to direct the Labour Department to take further action as the continuing strike was causing huge losses to the TSRTC.

Hearing Public Interest Litigations (PILs) and other petitions with regard to the strike, the court also made it clear that it can’t force the government to hold talks with the employees as the talks have to be held voluntarily and in a cordial manner.

The counsel for Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the striking employees told the court that the employees are ready to call off the strike and join their duties but the TSRTC Managing Director stated in his affidavit that the employees can’t be taken back. He requested the bench to direct the government and the TSRTC to take back the employees and not to trouble them after they join the duties.

The bench observed that the court has its own limitation but hoped that if the employees call off the strike and return to their duties, the government or the TSRTC will not take any action against them.

Meanwhile, JAC convenor Ashwathama Reddy called off his indefinite fast at government-run Osmania Hospital. He had launched an indefinite fast at his residence on Saturday but the police forcibly shifted him to the hospital on Sunday as his condition had started deteriorating. He, however, continued the hunger strike in the hospital.

Reddy called off the fast after leaders of various opposition parties called on him and persuaded him to end the protest.

The JAC leader said a decision on the strike would be taken after the receipt of the court order. He said respecting the court order, the JAC decided to postpone Tuesday’s ‘sadak bandh’.

The indefinite strike by over 48,000 employees of RTC entered 45th day on Monday. Though the JAC last week announced temporarily dropping the main demand of the TSRTC’s merger with the government, the latter gave no indication of any imminent talks to break the impasse.

TSRTC strike: KCR got a boost in High Court

0

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao got a boost in the High Court on Monday over the issue of TSRTC strike, which entered 45th day today.

The High Court made it clear that it cannot issue any directions to the state government on TSRTC strike and referred the issue to the Labour Commissioner.

The HC directed labour commissioner to hold talks with RTC unions and resolve the strike within two weeks.

The High Court stated that it has certain limitations on this issue and it cannot go beyond this.

High Court’s directions were in line with KCR’s stand who has been arguing all along that High Court has power to give directions to government on RTC strike.

KCR made this statement while addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on October 24, after TRS won Huzurnagar bypoll seat with a stunning majority.

KCR claimed that RTC strike is the issue between the government and the employees unions and it has to resolved only in the labour court and not in any other courts.

The High Court directions given on Monday proved that KCR was right in his arguments.

Now, the employees are left with no option but to call off their strike and rejoin duties to protect their jobs.

They already lost three month salaries due to strike and not in a position to afford to lose any salary futher.

Violence during RTC employees’ march in Hyderabad

0

Violence broke out during a protest by the employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), who are on strike, here on Saturday as hundreds of protestors managed to reach Hussain Sagar lake, defying police orders.

Police used batons and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protestors who removed the barricades to enter Tank Bund, the road on the banks of the lake connecting the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Some protestors including the activists of various parties supporting the employees, were injured in the lathicharge.

Though the police had barricaded Tank Bund and surrounding roads since morning, the protestors took the police by surprise by entering Tank Bund from both sides. They broke the barricades, sat on the road and raised slogans against the government for not accepting the demands of the employees, who have been on strike for more than a month now.

The protestors including women also tried to rush the lower Tank Bund road from adjoining localities. Tension prevailed as the police chased the protestors and used tear gas. Rapid Action Force (RAP) personnel were deployed to tackle the situation.

BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) president M. Kodandaram and leaders of Left parties, trade unions and student groups were arrested when they were heading towards Tank Bund.

Ashwathama Reddy, convenor of the employees’ Joint Action Committee (JAC), who called the march, was also arrested.

Tank Bund and other major roads surrounding Hussain Sagar lake were out of bounds for traffic since Saturday morning as police sealed the area to foil the march.

Tank Bund, Lower Tank Bund, Telugu Talli Flyover, Indira Park Road, Secretariat Road, Necklace Road, Khairatabad Flyover and all other roads leading to the lake were sealed by the police, which has denied permission for the protest. Hundreds of policemen were deployed around the lake to prevent protestors from reaching the area, a popular picnic spot.

NTR Park, Lumbini Park, Indira Park and Sanjivaiah Park around Hussain Sagar were closed for visitors as a precautionary measure.

The JAC of the TSRTC employees called for a ‘Chalo Tank Bund’ protest as part of their ongoing strike to press for their demands. The police, however, refused to give permission for the march on the ground that this could disturb law and order in the city.

Police took several leaders of the TSRTC employees and the opposition parties into preventive custody or placed them under house arrest across the state. The arrests were made since Friday evening.

Police also set up check posts at the entry points into Hyderabad to prevent TSRTC employees from entering the city.

The strike by over 48,000 TSRTC employees entered the 36th day on Saturday. Their demands include merger of TSRTC with the government.

However, taking a tough stand the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government rejected the demand for merger and even announced privatisation of half of the TSRTC routes.

Though the Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government to take the initiative to resolve the employees’ demands, no end to the stalemate appears in sight as both the sides are sticking to their stand.

Hyderabad police seals Hussain Sagar to foil march

0

Tank Bund and other major roads surrounding Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of Hyderabad were out of bounds for people on Saturday as police sealed the area to foil the march planned by striking employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).

People going to offices and workplaces, students and other commuters faced hardships in reaching their destination as the major road linking twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and all connecting arteries were barricaded.

Joint Action Committee (JAC) of TSRTC employees has called for ‘chalo Tank Bund’ as part of their ongoing strike to press for their demands. The police, however, refused to give permission for the march on the ground that this could disturb law and order in the city.

JAC leaders, however, vowed to go ahead with the protest planned on the lines of million march held in the same area during Telangana movement. All opposition parties and Osmania University students’ groups have declared support to the protest.

Police took several leaders of TSRTC employees and the opposition parties into preventive custody or placed them under house arrest across the state. The arrests were made since Friday evening.

Police also set up check posts at the entry points into Hyderabad to prevent TSRTC employees from entering the city.

Agitation style tactics may not help KCR!

0

TRS boss and CM K Chandrasekhara Rao is known for his blind belief in his capabilities for agitations and ideological confrontations. However, he is facing unexpected, unique trouble from the Central government, the BJP Telangana unit and the High Court. Just at a time when the RTC JAC was losing its strength, the HC and the Centre began bringing pressure on KCR to give up his unilateral style of functioning.

But old habits die hard. KCR’s agitation style tactics are continuing even after tasting enormous success in Telangana agitation. He is continuing to find fault with everyone who is not toeing his line of thinking. Now, KCR is not accepting the observations of the High Court on the illegality of Telangana RTC formation.

Very ironically, KCR is bringing pressure on the IAS officers to go and convince the court. He blindly says that the TSRTC is formed as per the Motor Vehicles Act 1950 section 3. But, the Central government says that TSRTC has no constitutionality since it is not formed with its approval. It appears that KCR is switching into agitation spirit against the court and the Centre. But that may not work as it is not like provoking regional sentiments to get victory like in Telangana agitation.

KCR making IAS officers ‘scapegoats’ in RTC strike issue!

0

Poor IAS officers in Telangana are paying the price for Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s ‘ego’ in dealing with the TSRTC strike, which entered 34th day today.

Chief secretary, finance secretary, transport secretary, transport commissioner, who are senior IAS officers are made to stand in HIgh Court for three hours on Thursday, while hearing the RTC case.

The High Court rapped these officers for submitting false reports on funds given by TS government to TSRTC.

In fact, IAS officers are facing the music in High Court every week since October 5, when the strike began.

Under pressure from KCR, these officers are submitting false reports.

The court is taking these officials to task. IAS officials in Telangana are feeling humiliated and insulted on account of KCR’s arrogance on RTC strike.

Instead of resolving the strike by calling RTC unions for talks, KCR is forcing IAS officials to submit false reports in court with an intention of getting favourable judgement on RTC strike.

However, the High Court is detecting lies in these reports and shunting the officials.

KCR is now trying to project IAS officers in bad light as if they are submitting false reports without his notice.

KCR’s own media today carried banner stories which suggest that IAS officers were misleading not only courts but also the CM and the transport minister, which shocked IAS officers.

Everyone knows that a day before the hearing of the case, KCR is holding a marathon meeting from morning to evening in Pragathi Bhavan with senior officials.

He is guiding them what should be there in the reports to be submitted before the High Court.

Despite knowing very well that KCR is forcing them to submit false reports, they are not objecting fearing KCR and getting rapped up in court the next day.

This is affecting the morale of IAS officers in Telangana who are angry at KCR for making IAS officers the scapegoats in the issue of RTC strike.

Deadline ignored: KCR to privatise RTC routes totally

0

Only 145 out of the total 49,733 striking Telangana State RTC employees joined duties as per CM KCR’s deadline by the midnight of Nov 5. This is seen as the biggest political setback as well as immediate challenge for TRS boss. What will be his next plan? KCR is known as a successful strategist whether in running an agitation or leading a party to electoral victory. But his success formula is now being put to severe tests in RTC JAC strike.

Latest speculation is that KCR is even more angry against RTC employees for not listening to his advice. So, he is determined to stick to his stand to privatise the remaining 5,000 RTC routes in the state. This is going to create the biggest ever crisis in RTC history. The 100 per cent privatisation of RTC routes will automatically throw thousands of RTC employees out of job.

Analysts say that KCR is apparently prepared for any eventuality. He is not greatly worried about the future impact of his harsh decisions either. TRS boss is personally convinced that he has done enough by hiking salaries of employees in his previous term itself. He is also convinced that political motivations are behind RTC strike rather than real welfare considerations of the employees. KCR has already announced there is no question of RTC merger like in Andhra Pradesh.

KCR avoiding Raj Bhavan, upset at Tamilisai!

0

TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao used to visit Raj Bhavan almost every week when ESL Naramishan was Governor. There were occasions when KCR visited even twice or thrice in a week to Raj Bhavan after he became CM in June 2014 till Narasimhan relinquished post in September this year.

However, after BJP-led government at the Centre removed Narasimhan and appointed Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan as Governor of Telangana, KCR started avoiding Raj Bhavan.

Tamilisai took oath as Governor of Telangana on September 8.

It’s nearly two months she took charge as Governor.

But KCR visited Raj Bhavan only twice since she took charge.

Interestingly, his two visits to Raj Bhavan were on the same day, that is on September 8, when Tamilisai took oath as Governor in the morning.

KCR expanded his cabinet on the same day on September 8 and oath-taking ceremony was held on September 8 evening at Raj Bhavan.

That was the last time when KCR was seen in Raj Bhavan.

The reason for KCR avoiding Raj Bhavan, according to TRS sources is that, KCR feels Governor is encouraging leaders and parties which oppose him and turned Raj Bhavan as a platform for all those who oppose KCR.

She is giving her an appointment to anyone to meet her.

With this, all Opposition parties are making a beeline to meet Governor to lodge complaints against KCR.

Not only political parties, Governor has given appointments even to TSRTC unions, auto, cab drivers unions and others who went on strike against KCR’s government.

This reportedly angered KCR, who suspects Tamilisai as a tool of the BJP to destabilise his government and to create troubles for his government.

Telangana privatises 50% RTC, issues ultimatum to striking staff

0

Unfazed by the ongoing strike by the employees of state-owned Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), the state government on Saturday announced privatisation of 50 per cent of RTC routes and warned the employees that if they fail to join duty inside the next three days, it will privatise the remaining routes.

The major decision was taken at the state Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

He told reporters after the meeting that private operators will be allowed to run buses on 5,100 routes.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, said he was giving a chance to the striking employees to save their jobs and the future of their families.

“If they don’t return to work by November 5 midnight, we will privatise remaining 5,000 routes,” he said.

Rao said the decision to privatise the routes was irrevocable as the state was empowered to do so under the Motor Vehicle Act, 2019.

The Chief Minister once again ruled out the merger of TSRTC with the government. He said the Cabinet passed a resolution that TSRTC can’t be merged with the government.

The decision came even as the indefinite strike by over 48,000 employees entered its 29th day on Saturday.

KCR reiterated that the strike was illegal and asked the employees not to fall into the trap of union leaders and spoil their future.

The Chief Minister on October 7 had announced that 1,200 employees remained with TSRTC as the others did not join the duty before the expiry of the October 5 deadline.

Stating that he had no intention of making the employees jobless, KCR pointed out that he raised their salaries by 67 per cent during last four years.

He said the decision to partially privatise TSRTC was taken to ensure efficient public transport and provide better service to the people.

He clarified that the private operators will work under the control of TSRTC and there will be a regulatory commission to fix fare and take care of other issues.

KCR said the in future, the employees will not be able to blackmail the government by going on strike during festival and exam time.

KCR said Telangana was doing what states like Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal had already done.

“Privatisation will bring healthy competition and improve the service,” KCR said, as he denied that profit-making routes will be given to the private operators.

Slamming the BJP for supporting the striking employees, he reminded the state leaders of the party that their government in Madhya Pradesh privatised RTC, while their government at the Centre enacted a legislation empowering the states to privatise RTCs.

IAS officers creating confusion: Telangana HC

0

The Telangana High Court took serious objection to the manner in which the KCR government is playing a ‘numbers game’ with the lives of RTC employees. The angry remarks were made after RTC Incharge Managing Director Sunil Sarma told the court that the government need not pay any arrears to the RTC. Already, all dues are paid. But the court said it is not correct for a senior IAS officer to give wrong figures.

The Court asked how can the government show loan concessions given for buying new buses as repayment of dues to the RTC. IAS officers are creating this confusion instead of solving the crisis. Sunil Sarma said that loan concession amounts were used to buy diesel and pay salaries.

The High Court asked the government officials whether this was how they intend to submit reports to the court. The judges asked officials how the GHMC could pay Rs. 108 cr to RTC when it has a deficit budget of Rs. 556 cr during 2015-’16. The court reminded Sarma that the TRS Minister himself said in the Assembly that dues were to be given to the RTC.

Telangana seeks transfer of defence land for skyways

0

Telangana has sought transfer of defence land for construction of skyways on the Hyderabad-Nagpur and Hyderabad-Ramagundam highways.

Telangana’s Minister for Industry K. T. Rama Rao on Wednesday met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and made a request in this regard.

KTR, as Rao is popularly known, told Singh that the state government has been making representations in this regard as the skyways are required to be built to ease the traffic congestion in Hyderabad.

The state minister attended the states’ consultation workshop for Make in India programme. Speaking on the occasion he urged the Centre to consider the proposal to develop the Hyderabad-Bengaluru-Chennai industrial corridor.

KTR also called on Urban Development and Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and urged him to help the state in developing the Telangana sanitation hub.

The state government is already working with Administrative Staff College of India for developing the hub.

The minister also sought release of Rs 254 crore towards Viability Gap Funding for Hyderabad Metro Rail.

He also demanded Rs 400 crore under Swachh Bharat Mission for solid waste management project to be developed in Hyderabad.

KTR also sought Centre’s permission to use Begumpet Airport in the city for training activity for the aerospace sector. He said the state government along with a leading university from Britain was ready to deliver training programmes in aerospace.

Want to ‘influence’ KCR? Meet Chinna Jeeyar Swamy!

0

It’s a known fact to everyone that TRS chief and Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao will not give the appointment to anyone, who want to meet him.

Let alone common people, even his ministers and his own party MLAs struggle to get KCR’s appointment.

There are several ministers and TRS MLAs who failed to get KCR’s appointment for months and years.

But that is KCR’s style of functioning.

“No one can meet KCR by taking appointment. They can meet KCR only if KCR wants to meet them,” this is the standard thumb rule in TRS.

In these circumstances, what people in Telangana will do to ‘influence’ KCR or take their problems to the notice of KCR.

Telangana people now seem to be finding solace in Chinna Jeeyar Swamy.

Everyone knows that KCR is an ardent devotee of China Jeeyar Swamy.

He makes it a point to visit Swamy every now and then along with family members.

It’s also common to see KCR falling on the feet of Swamy by doing “Saastaanga Namaskaram” twice in his every visit to his ashram.

Seeing this, Telangana people now feel that if Swamy orders anything, KCR will obey.

TSRTC employees, who are on indefinite strike since October 5, seem to be also feeling the same.

They met Swamy today and urged him to instruct KCR to resolve RTC strike and protect their jobs.

Because KCR is adopting a ‘tough stand’ on KCR strike and dismissed 48,000 RTC staff for going on strike. He is now threatening to close RTC and privatise it.

Earlier, revenue employees also met Swamy and urged him to instruct KCR not to abolish Revenue Department, after KCR repeatedly threatened of abolition.

This seems to have worked as KCR did not abolish Revenue Department yet.

Let’s see whether RTC employees petition with Swamy will also work or whether KCR will listen to Swamy and soften his stand on RTC strike.

“Kavitha or Nilambari” debate in TRS!

0

Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of Telangana CM KCR, is being compared with actress Ramya Krishna in “Narasimha” movie of late in political circles.

Ramya Krishna in the role of ‘Neelambari’ in superstar Rajnikanth’s 1999 blockbuster “Narasimha” locks herself in her house for 18 years burning with anger and vengeance to take revenge against Rajnikanth who refused to marry her and instead marries her servant actress Soundarya.

Similarly, Kavitha, after facing shocking defeat at the hands of BJP in Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat in May, has confined to her house in Manikonda on Hyderabad city outskirts.

She is not seen anywhere either in party activities or in any functions or events or in her constituency Nizamabad since May 23 Lok Sabha results.

Even when TRS is taking up a big membership drive at present which is being daily monitored by her father KCR and brother KTR, there is no response or active participation by Kavitha.

Worse still is, minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, who is incharge of Nizamabad districts, had to go to Kavitha’s house in Manikonda, to give her party’s membership recently.

This photo was released to media which was the first and last public appearance of Kavitha since her defeat in Lok Sabha polls.

Kavitha as MP used to participate actively in Bathukamma celebrations on behalf of her organisation Telangana Jagruthi at several places across Telangana on a grand manner.

This year there was no hype or moolah as she played Bathukamma with just for others, the video of which has went viral on social media.

These developments led to speculations in TRS circles that Kavitha is burning with a vengeance to take revenge on BJP and for that reason, she locked herself at her house in Manikonda and will come out only after defeating BJP in Nizamabad after five years.

TRS party sources said KCR has offered Rajya Sabha MP post, MLC and minister post to pacify Kavitha and to bring her back to political limelight, but she refused it saying that nothing will satisfy her except taking revenge on BJP by defeating Dharmapuri Aravind in Nizamabad.

This is similar to Ramya Krishna who refuses all the offers offered by her minister brother in the movie to come out of the locked room and lead a normal life again.

However, in reel life, Ramya Krishna was not successful in taking revenge on Rajnikanth.

It remains to be seen whether Kavitha will reverse this in real life by defeating Aravind.

IAS officers should not tell lies, says RTC JAC

0

The KCR government and the RTC Officials are creating an impression that the employees’ unions are not cooperating for the success of the talks. The officials spread it in the media that the JAC leaders left the talks midway without any regard for the orders of the High Court. That is totally incorrect. JAC Convenor Aswathama Reddy says that it was the officials who walked out of the talks half way through. He deplored that the falsehoods are being spread about them. He said that the IAS officers should not tell lies as they are in important positions.

The JAC feels that their agitation is getting greater support than they expected from all sections of the Telangana society. The TRS government is appearing fearless on the outside but it is very much nervous internally on the future turn of the strike. To express their anger, the Telangana RTC Mazdoor Union flag colur is changed from pink to white. The new flag was hoisted at the union office.

The employees unions are now preparing to make their Sakala Janula Samarabheri a resounding success. It is being held at Saroornagar on October 30. All RTC employees along with their families, people’s organisations, political parties and others are taking part in this massive protest.

Why Harish and Etela kept mum on TRS Huzurnagar victory?

0

When all the ministers in Telangana CM KCR’s cabinet and senior TRS leaders competed with each other in congratulating KCR for landslide victory for TRS in Huzurnagar bypoll, senior ministers T Harish Rao and Etela Rajender, who worked with KCR and for growth of TRS day and night since inception of TRS in 2001, remained silent.

KCR’s son KTR, daughter Kavitha took to twitter to congragulate KCR and posted his lifesize pictures on their Twitter handle.

Other ministers issued official press releases congratulating KCR.

But Harish and Etela did not make any tweets or sent any official press releases through their PROs in media whatsapp groups.

Interestingly, the PROs of both the ministers posted information of respective official programmes attended by them but did not post anything on Huzurnagar victory.

This glaring exception has become a subject of hot debate in political as well as in TRS circles.

It’s an open secret that KCR has sidelined Harish and Etela in the party and in the government after he assumed office as CM for second term in December 2018.

These leaders are reportedly upset at CM for ignoring senior and tested leaders like them and encouraging defectors in TRS who came from other parties for minister and party posts.

Harish and Etela were not given any responsibilities for Huzurnagar bypoll.

This angered supporters of Harish and Etela in TRS, who wished TRS lose Huzurnagar bypoll so that KCR’s arrogance will come down and he will again give deserved prominence to Harish and Etela.

But then, TRS had won Huzurnagar seat with a historic majority.

This naturally came as a shocker for Harish and Etela supporters in TRS.

The fact that both these leaders did not respond on TRS victory proves that they were not happy at the way the things are going on in TRS after it came to power for the second term.

However, since KCR became even more stronger with Huzurnagar landslide victory, there is little Harish and Etela can do to challenge KCR at this juncture and have no option but to wait for the right time to strike back.

Nobody can save RTC from shutting down, says KCR

0

With employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) continuing their indefinite strike on 20th day on Thursday, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao said nobody can save the public transport utility from shutting down.

“The strike will end with RTC itself. Yes, it is going to happen,” he told a news conference to a query as to whether he sees an end to the strike.

“They are closing down the RTC. Nobody can save it. It is a gone case,” said Rao pointing out that the transport entity has gone bankrupt.

KCR, as Rao was popularly known, was talking to media after his Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) won Huzurnagar Assembly bypoll with a huge majority.

The Chief Minister, who appears to have further hardened his stand on the strike, made it clear that the RTC will not exist in its present form.

“The result of the strike is that old RTC will not be there. 1,000 per cent it will not be there,” he said.

KCR said a decision on permitting 7,000 private buses would be taken in a few days. “I can grant permits to more than 7,000 private buses to ply on the roads of Telangana, providing quality and comfortable transport to the people at lesser fares,” he said.

The Chief Minister blamed the leaders of RTC trade unions for the current situation and slammed the opposition parties for instigating them. He said trade union leaders called for strike to get votes in their union elections but they were playing with the lives of innocent employees and their families.

Over 48,000 employees of RTC are on strike since October 5 to press for their demands including the demand for the RTC’s merger with the government.

KCR termed the demand for merger as irrational and said if TSRTC was merged with the government, 57 other corporations will make similar demands.

He said RTC had no money to pay salaries to employees for September as the employees themselves cut the branch they were sitting on by going on strike. He said with economic slowdown, the government too had no money to bail out the RTC.

He claimed that the strike during festival season resulted in loss of Rs 125 crore to Rs 150 crore to RTC, which has accumulated losses of Rs 1,200 crore and outstanding loans of Rs 5,000 crore.

Can’t control dengue, pay Rs 50 lakh: Telangana HC

0

The Telangana High Court on Thursday said if the government failed to control dengue, it should pay Rs 50 lakh compensation to the families of those who died of the disease.

The High Court pulled up the state authorities for their failure to control the mosquito menace, resulting in people dying of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice R.S. Chauhan and Justice A. Abhishek Reddy was not satisfied with the steps listed out by senior government officials on measures taken to control the mosquito menace.

On summons by the bench, Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi, Municipal Administration Secretary Aravind Kumar, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Lokesh Kumar and superintendent of government-run Fever Hospital Dr Shankar appeared before the court on Thursday and briefed it on the steps taken.

The officials informed the court that municipal authorities identified 427 points prone to mosquito breeding and took the steps to check the menace.

The court, however, observed that the measures exist only on paper. It asked officials to visit Musi River in front of High Court building to see the situation for themselves.

As the mosquitoes from the dried river enter into High Court complex, the judges remarked that people would not come to the court if the problem was not addressed.

The bench also remarked that the IAS officers were not even reading newspapers, which carry stories about problems faced by people. It observed that it is the duty of the government and officials to look after people’s welfare and when they fail, they should pay the compensation.

For the second day, the High Court heard the petitions questioning official apathy in tackling dengue epidemic and in curbing mosquito breeders.

The bench asked the government how the number of dengue cases rose from 85 in January to 3,800 in October.

A district court judge from Khammam succumbed to dengue while undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital in Hyderabad on Monday. The bench also took note of this case.

It asked the government to set up a committee headed by the chief secretary and take steps on war-footing to control the mosquito menace.
