Coronavirus fear for May releases

0

It is clear that India is impacted by the second wave of coronavirus. The situations are out of control in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and others. These states have taken a call to impose restrictions. The situations are still in control across the Telugu states though the states had a considerable rise in the new number of cases. The filmmakers and the buyers are worried about the May releases this year if the situations continue to be alarming. The second wave impact is clearly visible on the box-office numbers last weekend.

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Acharya is the big-budget film that will hit the screens in May. The movie is made on a huge budget and the theatrical rights too are sold for record prices. If the rule of 50 percent occupancy is imposed, Acharya may get postponed because of the stake involved. The makers as of now are completing the shooting portions. Movies like Naarappa, Balakrishna’s next, Ravi Teja’s Khiladi, Paagal are announced for May release and there are some more films which are gearing up. With a huge stake involved, all the May releases are left in confusion. The final call would be taken based on the situation in April.

Tollywood packed for Dasara 2021

0

With the arrival of coronavirus, all the film shoots and releases are delayed. There is no clarity on when the vaccine arrives and when the normalcy returns. If the Centre grants permission for 100 percent occupancy for theatres, a bunch of films would release for Sankranthi 2021. Else, most of them would wait for summer 2021. Chiranjeevi’s Acharya and Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam are aimed for summer release initially. But the latest updates say that both these films would miss summer release.

Both Acharya and Radhe Shyam will release for Dasara 2021. Mahesh Babu is in plans to kick-start the shoot of Sarkaru Vaari Paata early next year and it is targeted for Dasara 2021 release. On the other side, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa too is aimed at Dasara 2021 release. Two of the four biggies will release for Dasara as per the update. Some other filmmakers are currently in plans to release their films for Dasara. The final chart of releases would be finalized soon. Before this, a wave of films are expected to release for summer next year if the vaccination arrives.

Tollywood’s piracy woes – Hundreds of crores lost revenue

0

Every film industry in India is facing a serious threat in the form of piracy. And, an exclusive report has mentioned that Telugu film industry is the worst hit compared to the other leading industries. Going into the detailed report, the data in the exclusive report mentions that a whopping 119 Crore is what the loss accounts for Tollywood so far in 2015 due to film piracy. Every movie big or small which released so far this year has fallen prey to this menacing act and the the loss in the coming days is bound to increase at an alarming rate.

To be specific with numbers regarding on how the piracy has burned the pockets of filmmakers, let’s us take Baahubali as example. After its humongous release on July 10th, around 650 download links were found online and over 10 lakh people have viewed the online streaming and 8.5 lakh downloads have been recorded. This has resulted in a loss of around 19 Crores just in the initial days after its release. Imagine how big the number could now be …

Out of the 73 movies which released so far in Tollywood, more than 5000 illegal links were found and around 90 lakh people have viewed the movies online. Almost 31 lakh illegal downloads have been made. So, the overall loss for Tollywood so far is estimated to be around 120 Crores. This loss will multiply as we proceed to the end of this year. Analysts opined that the producers of big budget films can endure the loss but the low and medium budget film producers cannot withstand the loss.

Talking about the piracy woes, senior filmmaker Suresh Babu admitted that every producer in the industry is suffering a loss of 25 percent of the entire budget due to the piracy of films across all platforms. Although the central government has took stern measures and stringent action to curb this serous treat to the artistic work, the digitization has created a lot of loopholes and the damage is easily done before the issue is tackled.
