ABN, TV5 approach Supreme Court against AP CID!

0

ABN-Andhra Jyothy and TV5 news channels have filed separate petitions in the Supreme Court on Monday challenging the sedition case filed by Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (AP CID) against them.

The CID has named these two channels as co-accused in the FIR filed against YSRCP rebel MP Raghu Rama Krishnam Raju.

The news channels brought to the notice of the Supreme Court that the cases filed against them were ‘politically motivated’.

The news channels stated that the CID booked a false case against them stating that they had telecasted ‘hate speeches’ of MP Raju.

The news channels appealed Supreme Court to quash the FIR registered against them alleging that the cases were deliberately filed on the directions of AP government.

The other side of the brawl between doctor and TV5 reporter

TV5 reported an incident where in reporter Suresh was beaten by a doctor in Rajamundry. The channel reported the story “rowdy doctor” wherein he hit the journalists who went to cover a story. TV5 claimed that some anonymous users reported to TV5 office that Geetha Mullapudi Hospital is following corrupt practices related to EHS card and fees reimbursement. Both the reporter and journalist were injured in the brawl. The media house reported that the doctor has support from elites of the societies and even claimed that he has relationship with a cabinet minister. Telugu360 gained access to the unedited video ( watch the video clip located left side of this article), wherein the doctor can be seen provoked by the journalist. Contrary to the unedited version, TV5 had telecast only the part where the doctor was hitting the reporter.

Telugu360 reached out to the doctor to know his side of the story. Dr. Mullapudi Rajendra Prasad has been in the dentistry profession for 17 years now and is chairman of Geetha Mullapudi International Dental Hospital. He adopted his village Dharmavaram village in Kovvuru wherein he conducted various humanitarian activities and health camps. He was even appreciated by the collector of the district. Along with local MLA Jawahar, he conducted Vanam manam programs.

According to the doctor, TV5 personnel contacted the doctor regarding advertisements. He wanted to run the ads for not more than 2-3 days, but the channel insisted on taking the one year plan for 5 lakh rupees. A fortnight ago, after ignoring repeated calls from TV5, the doctor texted them that he will not be able to pay such huge amount. However, on Wednesday, the doctor who wasn’t at the hospital was informed by his staff that TV5 reporters are creating ruckus in the hospital. Dr. Prasad had a telephonic conversation in which the reporters said that “since he is doing good work for his village they wanted to cover his story. He said “I hope you are not retaliating for disagreeing to advertise with TV5”. The TV5 reporters allegedly said that “we received small complaints against your hospital”. Upon hearing this allegation, the doctor rushed to the hospital. The after math of the incident can be seen in the video.

The remorseful Dr. Prasad held that his criticism about media dint go down well with the reporters and that’s where the violence started. He says it was in the heat of the moment that he assaulted the reporter and is apologetic about it. The doctor had submitted the proofs of text messages and calls from TV5 to the police. He agreed that it was unintentional. Even TV5 reported that the doctor had apologized and left the place silently.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Nimakayala Chinnarajapa contacted the Rajahmundry Urban SP and found out the details of the incident and ordered a probe. He even met the reporter and camera man in the hospital. APJF condemned the act.

If the buzz is to be believed, TV5 tried to contact other dental hospital in the area regarding advertisements and tried to create ruckus. But that hospital said, they will inform other media house about the atrocities by them. While the police investigate the issue, such allegations against a media house merely for advertisements will give a chance to raise questions about the trustworthiness of the fourth estate.

T360 Excl : MyHome Rameswar Rao invests in TV5 and NTV

0

Myhome Rameswar Rao , TV5 , NTV , Myhome Rameswara Rao buys NTV TV5 stake

  • Rameswar Rao, a trusted lieutenant of KCR has acquired stake in two Telugu news channels
  • By accepting investments from  CM’s inner circle corporate , will TV5 and NTV be able to question ruling governments and represent people of Telugu States ?
  • Mr. Rao is also known to be a front end for a famous Swami.

My Home Rameswar Rao, a homeopathy doctor-turned-real estate biggie, needs no introduction. One of the few home-bred industrialists of Telangana, Dr. Jupally is known to be one of the trusted lieutenants of CM K. Chandra Sekhar Rao. Mr. Rao, who has interests in cement production, power plants along with real estate, has made his intentions clear that he is looking to expanding his business empire by adding some media properties.

As per reliable sources, Mr. Rameswar Rao has acquired a 11% stake in vernacular news channel NTV, owned by Narendranath Chowdary, for 30 crores. Taking his media investments further, Mr. Rao has also invested 7 Crore in TV5, another vernacular news channel. It is worth noting that, Mr. Rao tried in vain to acquire a controlling stake in media major TV9, spear headed by Ravi Prakash. As he couldn’t close the deal with TV9, Mr. Rao invested in channels, which are rated No. 2 and 3 in Telugu news channels.

It is clear that Mr.Rameswar Rao wants to control the media narrative. This is similar to what Ambani has done at the national level by acquiring Network 18 group and ETV” says a senior editor of a Telugu news paper. These news channels have a fiduciary duty to question the TRS government when need be. By accepting investments from a right hand man of KCR, can these News channels maintain their independence?

An obvious question is why Mr. Rao very keen to invest in media? For one, Mr. Rameswar Rao is acquiring stake in News media to control the media narrative on behalf of his friend, KCR. Secondly, sources say Mr. Rao is the front face for most of the investment interests of a popular Swami’s trust. It would be a big help for the  Swami and Mr. Rao to influence the media narrative when need arises for these investments. . Besides the point: Mr. Rao is going to make a killing through his Maha cements, due to its proximity to Polavaram project.

Incidentally, one of the channels Mr.Rao acquired a stake in, screens programs about Charlatan Swami in prime time at 8:30 AM. Instead of enlightening people, these news channels spread superstitions through their paid advertisements. Also, this news channel aggressively promotes ‘NuZen’ Hair Oil products claim that hair will regrown naturally. Really ?

“Once upon a time media took it’s role to question people in power very seriously. Media was the adversary. It would take on those in positions of power, whether in government or the corporate sector. Time alone will tell how that adversarial role will exist under these sort of corporate deals.” said a senior media executive about corporate investors in media.

Will TV5 and NTV maintain their editorial independence and serve their fiduciary duty to further the cause of Telugu people? Only time can answer.
